Very nice video, now i can see how it looks without snow :) In 4 weeks i'll go there again. So far i only saw the city in wintertime. Although that's cool too, with the big Christmas trees and (hopefully) snow. :)
"nostalgic communist architecture" -- tell me, would we be talking about "nostalgic Nazi architecture"? The Nazis were terrible, and the communists were at least as bad!
I'm criticizing that comment, not the people of Belarus -- I've met several people from there, and they're super-nice.
@Silence00000Silence You are entitled to your views, but I think it's a mistake to me so emotional about it. The Stalinist buildings were after all built by the prople and remain the most sought after property in the centre of Minsk.
@domovodstvoby I think you misunderstood my meaning and should read my comment again. I was referring to the glowing terms with which the commentator referred to the buildings. Not the buildings themselves. We wouldn't put "nostalgic" and "Nazi" together in the same sentence. So why are "nostalgic" and "communist" being paired together in such positive terms, when the communists were at least as bad as the Nazis, if not worse?

Ive been in Minsk twice and i have seen the corruption and the trouble Belarus is going through right now. The belarus people do protest and the police there have jailed several protesters, if im not wrong Lukashenko even banned handclapping ( their way of protesting ).But also, i have seen the splendor that Minsk can and have to offer. The Botanical Garden, Gorky Park, Zero point, Island of Tears etc. Going back soon again.
dear god, it brings me to tears every time i think where my mom took me away from. i was 8 when i moved away and im 13 now. and god, that country is going to crash and burn! all the memories i have in that city! :'( i have never regretted leaving because in that country i would have no freedom as a woman, and in canada i have freedom, educational freedom, political freedom, etc. god bless belarus, hope it gets out of the crisis!
Hehe :). Why are all negative comments coming from russians? Can't see belarusians complaining about the dirt or corruption. Some guys should learn how to clean their own yard first. And i'm not a fan of dictatorship, nor the opposition. That's the local residents choice.
com eon,Ukraine is worse...at least ppl got jobs and got supply of everythin !all post USSR countries r in shit, some more, some less...but its NOTHIN like North Korea!!!

"A city full of surprises and contrary to most people's preconceptions."....
:((( unfortunately, sometimes (especially now!) you can find a lot of terrible "surprises" there... you cam see my profile and channel to get the latest information about "safety" in Minsk and, overall, about so-called "democracy" in Belarus.
First, watch "We demand freedom and truth!", the truthful film about the events in Minsk on the 19 of December 2010
@eurodestination Absolutely NOT.Vice versa. On YouTube exist special channels (probably, financed by Belarusian government), and their purpose is to provide false information: for example, to show PEACEFUL demonstrations as a bloody revolutions, and, overall,to make people all over the world to treat democratic forces in Belarus as a hooligans.Don't let that bastards "wash" your brain! We all are adult people and we have to understand that... actually, that government is afraid to lose its power
@eurodestination And they will do it. In any way.Even stepping on the corpses (for the dictatorship it's usual). But if you'll come to Minsk, you'll never see the truth. They'll try to hide it from the tourists.
You will see only "clean" streets,and..."stability"- which is COMPLETE illusion. If you take a look behind the main street, you will see a lot of dirt. And if you live there -this is a real hell. Trust me. Don't put in mind only sightseeing results - this is made especially for tourists
@eurodestination It isn't. The youth went to the demonstration with hope to change their life to the good way! And all the rumors about the payment is delirium of well known mustached guy!

@Zmiy100 I have been told that students are paid $100 to turn up to demonstrations by american agents - is this true?
