It amazes me when all these baby boomers talk about how perfect music from the 80s and 90s were and oh-so-conveniently gloss over songs like "Me So Horny" and "Rump Shaker" (which just about perfected the concept of the "video ho"), pretty much ALL of gangsta rap (which set the template for a lot of later rap to come, so who's to blame there, y'all or us?), and then the entirety of the music-by-numbers genre that is Freestyle.

It amazes me when all these baby boomers talk about how perfect music from the 80s and 90s were and oh-so-conveniently gloss over songs like "Me So Horny" and "Rump Shaker" (which just about perfected the concept of the "video ho"), pretty much ALL of gangsta rap (which set the template for a lot of later rap to come, so who's to blame there, y'all or us?), and then the entirety of the music-by-numbers genre that is Freestyle.

@liacashmere58 Nostalgia is fine, but at least take off the rose-colored glasses. Not everything in the 80s and 90s was gold, and not everything in the 2000s is crap. There is a lot of good current music, you just have to search harder to find it since radio is no longer the medium it once was.

@liacashmere58 I know that you didn't write that, and I'm sorry if I came off a little angry, but it just irritates me when I go to older artists pages and all I can see are a litany of "now this is REAL music, today's music SUCKS" comments, especially when the person in question is basing that opinion off of what they hear on the radio (which, I would venture to say 99% of the people who have that opinion do exactly that).

Her voice was just something that couldn't be described with words. It was an experience.
So gifted, and her words had such a story to tell. I can walk through her lyrical library at anytime or place in my life & find a melody that is befitting.
