I love sequels, but there is a point to stop making the same franchise. Example: Halo 3 ODST. I thought Halo 3 would be a great time to go off with a good note. Sadly, they came out with sequel to suck from Master Chief's tits. We need more IP's for people to get into new characters and new gameplay every once and a while.

P.S. Modern Warfare 2 I would consider a sequel to the first Modern Warfare and not Call of Duty 6. Frankly they really didn't need to put Call of Duty on the box.

NEW IP's all the way, sequels almost always milk a series (look at the Saw movies). Without new IP's, you can't make your precious sequels. Game developers need to to take a chance, they can't keep clinging to their hit series (coughbungiecough). Look at Prototype, Crackdown, Borderlands, all VERY innovative games. Granted, there are very good sequels, Uncharted 2, MW 2 etc, but there are also bad ones, Halo 3 ODST Street Fighter Franchise (untill IV) and so many more that just MILK the series

The only franchise that i'm not getting bored of because of so many sequals is final fantasy, because it changes every time, new combat system, story, characters, time, setting etc. Whatever cod comes out, i'll go back to cod4, i've got MW2, i've been playing cod4 today, because the sequals hardly add anything, cod4 has the best balance and maps.

There's some really tallented developers that just make one franchise, e.g. bungie and infinityward, they just make FPS which are just unimagenative.

at the end to you can't compare a sequel to its original, it never captures the some excitement of a completely new universe in its audience. It just becomes an updated version of its original.

New IP's are what gives us new titles. They are what causes sequels, you can't say sequel's can happen without new IP's because then they would just be IP's. True some IP's aren't the greatest, and most don't even produce sequals. But trueth is there aint sequals with out IP's!
