you just answered a question for me on another video lol. but... i have a dent on my car. but i dont want to respray the whole panel. would it work just the same? or would it look obvious with the colour differences with the rest of the panel and rest of the car?
@Monkriss Hey, no probs. Yeah what spray painters do to avoid this is to only paint over the repair. Spray 3 or 4 coats getting larger with every coat. Try not to paint to the edge of the panel. Then clear the whole panel. In some cases if the repair is at the edge of a door then you will need to blend and clear the adjacent panels. Hope this helps. Ill do a vido on this soon.
I like the acrylic paint too:) I can really see acrylic taking off in the future especially seeing that auto Spray painters are always complaining which only makes for research into a far superior product. Keep complaining its good for the acrylic products:)
I use the sundstrom mask, from S.E.A the Pro Respirator Kit. Its $99.00. Store it in the plastic case as the filters are always being used. They will last longer this way.
Hey csm, I am about to norglass 2 pac on my boat, been trying to get a mask to cut out the bad stuff, can't find the right one (3M info goes full circle) just wondering, what, where and how much was your mask.
everything was going well until you sprayed the acrylic outside and then the 2 pak in the booth. UNFAIR. Makes this entire operation almost pointless. Sorry dude.
hey...what kind of paint gun are u using? normal or HVLP? wich is better and why? what about the compressor? how big is enough for a HVLP for example? how about for a normal paint gun? is a 50Liter ok or do I need a bigger one? thanks
@c00smeen Hey mate, I use a normal spray gun.. I spoke to a few spray painters and they all hate HVLP guns.. They dont atomise the paint properly and its hard to get a good finish. They are designed to have less overspray to comply with the emission laws in Europe thats the only reason why they are used. If you walk into any spray shop in Australia or USA you would struggle to find people using HVLP..
@customspraymods Hello, you can get a good finish with a HVLP gun but it needs some tweaking to get it right, according to some people I have spoke to.
@customspraymods thanks for all the fast answers man and I'm sorry for the 20 questions but I'm trying to paint my car myself after a friend spent big bucks for a shitty prep and paint job, don't want to invest in expensive profi tools cuz I won't need them after the spray...maybe the compressor...my gun has a paint debit of 95cc/min at 3bar and uses 75 l/min of air would a 2.5HP max 8bar 206l/min 50 liter compressor hold enough constant pressure? I found the compressor for cheap
@customspraymods Ok, so basically opacity of basecoat and hardness of clear. Makes sense. Good explanation, reason enough for me. There isn't a great deal of price between Concept and HiChem anyway. I've got a little Concept 2k Iso Free Clear laying around, so I'll spray some over a bonnet I sprayed with Concept Acrylic Laquer (Unicryl 3000) and leave it out in the full summer sun for a few months to see what happens. Just out of curiousity of course ;)
@customspraymods Also, what is your opinion of the HiChem/Motospray paints? I hear a lot of people hate them, but they never have a good reason other than they are just cheap paints and you get what you pay for. Fair enough reason, and I haven't sprayed with anything other than Concept really, but I have seen a few nice Motospray jobs, and I'm honestly curious about pro painters' opinions about it, as I'm just an amateur.
@wombatau Some reasons why people like or dislike paint systems is how accurate they are when mixed to a paint formula and can be adjusted, also the coverage of the paint some paint needs 4-5 coats to cover so it might be cheap but you need more product. Also how the clear coat handles de nibbing dust particles and how it cuts and buffs. You can get a good job with any paint but its the journey that matters.
@customspraymods I agree that normally spraying any 2 pack paint over Acrylic Laquer is a bad idea and the clear will basically just separate from the base and fall off, but I am quite curious about the HiChem/Motospray recommendation of being able to spray their Acrylic-based 2k Iso Free Clear over Acrylic Laquer 1k. I realise the formulations of tge Concept and HiChem Iso Free clears are completely different, and that the same is probably not true for the Concept branded paint.
To anyone following the comment thread, when I said basecoat, I was referring to Concept branded 900 and No Mix series basecoat paints. Part numbers of the clears I am referring to are: Concept Iso Free 2k Clear [A07C/ISO2KCLR5 (5L kit)], HiChem/Motospray 2 Pack Iso Free Clear [IFC3 (Clear), 2PIFH1 (Hardener), 4L kit]. Datasheets are available on the respective websites, so don't just take my word for it ;)
@wombatau@wombatau Check out the TDS on this site if you havnt already. It doesnt say it can go over acrylic but most 2K clears cannot because they dry alot harder then acrylic and will tend to crack as the acrylic softens underneath it. I wouldnt trust the HiChem tds explanation as technically you could call basecoat paint acrylic. I know Joe the owner and founder of Concept Paints I can give him a call tomorrow and confirm it just to be safe. Thanks for watching dude.
@customspraymods Hi mate, Concept's 2k Iso Free is an Acrylic based product which can be sprayed over basecoat, but no they don't mention being able to spray over standard Acylic 1k Laquers, or whether it is from a compatible family of Acrylic type paints. However, HiChem/Motospray 2k Iso Free does specify in the technical datasheet that is can be sprayed over Acrylic Laquer 1k paints, or basecoat. I know HiChem/Motospray paints have an average reputation, but they are cheap paints afterall.
This video is gold for newbie painters, and is probably the best comparison video of 2k vs acrylic laquer I've seen. Since you're using Concept Paints, are you going to do a video about 2k (Acrylic) Iso Free Clear and Primer?
@wombatau Hey mate. The name 2K means there is 2 Parts to it. A body and a Hardener or Catalyst. Acrylic is a 1K product so it does not need hardener. The deal with iso free paints is some people are highly allergic to Iso's which is one reason they have iso free paint. It is still very harmful and can cause damage if breathed in. They just replace the Iso with other harmful chemicals. At home Acrylic is the safest way to go. Hope this helps.
@ArtfuldodgeRSSS in looks not at all as you can see by the video they look the same. 2k will last longer and won't fade over time. It will also be a bit stronger. Its double the price and needs to be sprayed in a booth but it is easier to get gloss. Acrylic will last a long time if looked after. Hope this helps.
@madmick82 some say that the acyrlic is better for stone chips as it is softer and will flex rather then chip. But the 2 pack is alot stronger and won't scratch as easily. Acrylic is easier to repair scratches but 2pack is easier to repair dents. I asked 2 professional spray painters this question. Hope it can help.
@remrusty nah not really the best way to reduce peel is to have your gun setup correctly and by using the correct mixtures in the clear. Dropping the air pressure will also help. Sanding and buffing will get rid of all that peel anyway. See my next video on buffing 2pack for how to do that type of paint
2 pac will give you cancer without a good mask so i always use acrylic. plus i dont bother with the clear coat unless its a metallic paint, i just cut and polish the base coat. easier quicker and you dont have to spend money on clear. just wish i didn't sell my compressor lol. ps dude you are a pretty awesome painter, good technique, i have found that too many people swing their arms, so the paint is thicker in the middle and runs but doesnt provide good coverage at the edges of a panel
bad buffing skills dude

jonnyfowder 1 month ago
Ive been a painter for 31 years and hate HVLP gun !!
I use a LVLP which is awsome !!
Solvent paints 2k acryls ect are being faded out due to VOC laws
Ive been using Standox Standoblue (waterbased) for awhile now and there is no comparison !!
1.5 coats and your done 15 mins from basecoat flash and clearcoat
As for a compressor you want min 3hp 12-14 cfm and 50 litre tank

which paint is more resistant to UV rays, chemicals(oil, gas and stuff) the 2 Pack or acrylic?

And to anyone, never go randomly mixing paint families, I use Concept over Concept, and HiChem over HiChem. Minimises problem potential.
