He probably was riding the high of his recent APR Stage 1 ECU flash. Having an extra 100 lb-ft of torque at 3k rpm does make the car feel insanely fast. But... the small turbo can't push enough air so the torque drops off quickly.
Just be careful though, a GTI can be modded to have 450hp these days and still look 100% stock. ;)

Both are good cars,and as muched as I enjoyed stomping every import I came across in the 5.0, I equally enjoy the 'quick' (not fast) very well appointed and (to me)more fun to drive GTI. I also enjoy 33-35mpg hwy!

@cjdontthink2 The 2011 GT holds the skidpad at .94 on stock 8.5" of tread. .91 on the STi and .96 on the EVO. I don't think a tiny little corner is going to pose a problem. :)

Love both cars; my foxbody would eat most everything on the road...the GTI cruises great, handles well, and is just more 'fun' (overall) to drive (except when dragging a 5.0 stang!) That's about what I expected to see when I clicked this link. GTI getting hosed. Both great cars though.
