I had a 78 ke 100. it wasnt fast but it was dependable.had a week clutch but i babied it.I drove it alot before i sold it.I lived in apt in a bad neighborhood.had no place to keep it anymore. sicne my budd with a garage moved out of state.I wish i could have kept it. it was in good shape. i ran 20:1 but i think that was too rich. i should have tried 30:1
@aaronzack14 too much oil will make it run a lean fuel to air mix (because the oil is replacing fuel so leans out the mix) The result is a seizure caused by overheating, rather than too little oil.
@aaronzack14 Anything that detracts from the amount of fuel going into the cylinder leans it out. Lean means too much air compared to fuel which makes it run hotter. The oil is there to lubricate and does not burn properly, and it is replacing fuel because it is mixed in with the gas. Therefore even though you have lots of lubricating oil it will still over heat because the too much oil has been used and it has leaned the mix.
@aaronzack14 Too little oil will also make it seize, but that is because you don't have enough oil to create a protective film and you get metal rubbing against metal which will also cause over heating and seizure, but this time from friction not lean running. Running lean or running rich refers to the air fuel mix, not the 2 stroke oil mix. So either way you have to have the right amount of oil, to much is as bad as too little, but for different reasons. 40:1 should be fine.
@outdoorsman310 Sounds like a good mix. Really you should reconnect the oil pump though. The oil pump doesn't deliver the same mix rate all through the rev range. When the engine is being ridden hard it delivers more oil and when it is not being ridden so hard, it delivers less. It is, however not in direct proportion to the amount of gas going into the engine, but rather dependent on engine load and throttle opening. Pre-mix is a poor substitute for engines that are meant to be autolube.
@outdoorsman310 I have never heard of anyone's autolube breaking. I have heard people say they break down etc., but in 35+ years of riding have never had one go on me or anyone I know. You can leave it like it is if you are worried. If you do that though you need to check your plug for the right color. It should be biscuit brown. If it is black and oily it is too much oil. If it is white it is overheating. light to dark brown is what it should look like. Test with a new plug.
@Scootertuner1000 if you have the throttle closed and your going down a big hill what does it do?i looked at mine and it looks like it runs off the throttle i wish it ran off the rpms even though t is also a tach so it probably does somewhatmore i found some lime green oil in it the reason i dont have it connected is because the guy i got it from said one of the bolts from it broke so i have to run premix
@outdoorsman310 The is still oil going to the engine, because the pump runs all the time. It runs more when you open the throttle. It runs on a mix of revs and throttle.

@smithdsmit 40:1 is the correct measurement but ther is o such thing as "to much"
just "to litttle" oil

hi, would you happen to know what the gas to oil ratio is with this bike??thanks
2100andrew 3 years ago
there is no oil ratio bc it rotary valve. its a 2 stroke but makes power like a 4 stroke
choclateskater101 3 years ago
20:1 i do believe
