@stludachris I'm not entirely sure. It depends on AVID's drivers. I would probably check out forums to see what other people who have it are saying. Reason 6 in 32bit mode will work for sure. Just not sure about 64bit mode.

I got respect for Stoni as a Teacher/Preacher and MPC-series Artist. I wish Akai would have paid her to represent the real thing. Sentimental I guess. I feel like the MPC is a real instrument that is aided by computer tech- Reason is the other side of the river.
If they had a baby with down syndrome maybe. Record might be a cool tool with it's simplicity (and maybe with the sl9000 styled mixer), but I don't think it will really compare with protools or anything in that category.
Thank you for this demonstration, couldn't figure out myself how to use it and I couldn't find it in any of the provided documentation (strange). Very usable!
@Hazmat347 i can afford a mac, its not like they are worth a million dollars you fool. i can build a crazy computer, buy software and a that korg microkontrol for what a mac is worth. you buy a mac and what do you? nothing!! people that spend alot of money on a mac computer believe they will get better results from there music. The machine doesnt make you gain talent. Its just a tool
@Caliko1 the computer is only used to run the soundcard and store the music thats being recorded. almost any computer is good for that. dont you ever read the minimum requirements? any computer will do, just dont fill it up with porn websites and it will work just fine. were making music on reason not making fucken video game "halo" turn off your fucken internet and you will see just that alone makes a big difference
@elmaspison You can't be serious. Music production doesnt use much resources huh? You making you're music on a 80's Casio sequencer?
The Halo analogy still makes sense whether its relevant to music production or not.
If ur barely getting by the system requirements DONT BUY editing/production software. Any half monkey will know that minimum requirements will only run the most minimum capabilities of the software. For example a limit of 2 tracks on Pro Tools and no RTAS.
@Caliko1 and since you got a crazy computer you must be making million dollar tracks. while everyone else that cant afford a "mac" is making junk hahaha have you ever heard the term less is more? and yes my casio sequencer will probably be more reliable then your quadcore 8gb mac.
@Caliko1 producers and wannabe producers have been using pcs and macs since the 80s and they had great results. Have you ever heard of the term "less is more" so what if you record 2 tracks at a time, im sure alot of people do it and make great tracks.
@elmaspison as far as "almost any computer will do"
NOT all computers can run Reason 4, Pro Tools and plug ins simultaneously efficiently. Even a PC with 8GB Ram and a quad processor will struggle with the right plug ins running. For example, Pro Tools 8 with 25 tracks running with 10 plug ins running as sends and 3 instrument tracks running simultaneously.
And how exactly do you "fill up a computer with porn sites??"
P.S. I own both a PC and MAC. and have ran similar software on BOTH.
@Caliko1 why the fuck would running 25 tracks at once run down your processor so much? its when all the usbs are being used by instruments that slow down a machine and you playing all of them at once and even if you were a band why wouldnt you play one intrument at a time. are you recording an orchestra all at once haha damn look at this composer ,
I just bought Reason 4.0 and a mpd 24 and a little keyboard. I was paying down for a M-3 korg 61 key. But i had to go with my budget. Also i have studio monitor speakers. Now im just waiting for my I-mac 24 inch like you have. Holla at me i never used reason before maybe you could help me. Take care Peace

@KevinDolin Some people prefer reasons visual layout though, its easier to set up complex chains of effects etc because you can actually plug it all in and see where the wires are going, as opposed to doing it all in some matrices or however the other DAWs work
i guess i must be in that 1% because i use reason, fruit loops and $500,000 say that i can make way better beats than you can and i know alot about music trust me so FUCK YOU! dipset all day soowoop
hmmm, i been listening to hip hip since beofre i remebered, i dont know much about the notes etc etc, but, u cant hate on poeple who may not know as much of u just because they are learning, people aint born with loads of musical knowlage, its somthing thats LEARNT
you have to do it seperatly when you record it. if using pattern buttons just convert the pattern for each drum sound and move it to a new lane. clear the pattern and then make pattern for new sound and repeat. you could use seperate redrum racks. or if you are recording from midi input (keyboard) then just record one drum create new lane and record next sound. hopefully i helped
This actually seems almost useful in terms of slightly sending offbeat percussion notes to get a bit more of an organic feel, kinda like the artist Flying Lotus. I think it's worth giving a chance.
If used right ReGroove can be very cool. Not every music style has a perfectly timed rhythm and this thing can give it a more human feel. Just because you don't understand the use of it doesn't make it crap.
it appears thats all it is, its makes a groove instead of yourself being creative and making your own groves, technically no matter how much it swings its programmed notes , the only way to geta real human feel is a real musician
i think it's pretty normal ya do ya tracks seperatly.. so ya can do a lot more with the samples alone.. for example.. adding an other reverb to a snare..then that u use on ur snare..
This isn't a TUTORIAL, this is a video ripped off the the propellerhead website that is ADVERTISING the features of Reason 4, not teaching people how to use it.
Guys, think something else now. We have Re Groove. We have 4 x 8 channels = 32 (WHOA) Let's say, 8 for the drum machine .... and the rest for the other devices!!!!!!! Reason 4 IS huge after all. I haven't even learned deeply Thor yet, and now i see this too! GOD! I will start experiments right away.
i got this bad bitch named Sonar, not a lot of folks know what a freak she is.... and she like to get it on with this well known freak name Reason. together we make crack.....
Well I see how it works now, but... Jeez it sounded much better straight!
Why choose a 60% Shuffle and then only push the fader up to 90% (and then add shuffle with the knob!!?)? Shurely it's better to get the hihat and the kick on the same groove?
do the beats have to be programmed within the redrum unit?? i mean you make no mention of how there are many many different ways of programming drums within reason, for example i like to use matrix units wired to specific channels within the redrum unit to do my drums visually with the matrix units.... will this still affect the timings of the drums?>?? i will experiment to find out!
well this sound i heard allready!all reason users sound the same, same sounds same effects !ofcourse you can do alot init!but girl i got hardware like a korg triton and more and my cubase sx records it live ,its like reason only 100000000 better, much better quality!!you should convince people to buy reason!you didnt do that!!masybe because im more pro then you, lolbut i do think a artist needs soft wich he can turns into his own with plugins
In my experience using apps like Fruity Loops & Reason, FL always seems to be a pain in the ass for where samples go & where to store your projects. Reason always know where everything is. maybe FL has changed but I've used 3 versions & I was never totally satisfied.
REASON [imo] is by far the superior program for many 'reasons'.
And yea, Reason 4 has some really good new stuff like THOR.
How I do that is Just record a pass of one drum like the kick
then I can choose new lane and then record the snare thats not as musical but can be done. U can also record all the prts in one lane and then copy them and delete whats not needed
i noticed when you moved the values on the shuffle and slide knobs the cursor wasn't present. Did you use automation over ride to assign these parameters to your midi controller?

you have to do it seperatly when you record it. if using pattern buttons just convert the pattern for each drum sound and move it to a new lane. clear the pattern and then make pattern for new sound and repeat. you could use seperate redrum racks. or if you are recording from midi input (keyboard) then just record one drum create new lane and record next sound. hopefully i helped

This isn't a TUTORIAL, this is a video ripped off the the propellerhead website that is ADVERTISING the features of Reason 4, not teaching people how to use it.
mass2chaos 3 years ago
Well, its not ripped, since this is from the official propellerhead YT channel :)

I liked the first beat, the opening one.
OfficalDEF 3 years ago
Yo, that beat is nice!
shestudios 3 years ago
if you say so....it just sounds a bit busy to me
DUT011 3 years ago
You know what? I understand your reasoning. It is definitely not a natural beat and it is busy. I just think it's interesting.
Peace,

i got this bad bitch named Sonar, not a lot of folks know what a freak she is.... and she like to get it on with this well known freak name Reason. together we make crack.....
nickstarks 3 years ago
Damn she's one hardfaced looking Reason user haha
LALLZ 3 years ago
Well I see how it works now, but... Jeez it sounded much better straight!
Why choose a 60% Shuffle and then only push the fader up to 90% (and then add shuffle with the knob!!?)? Shurely it's better to get the hihat and the kick on the same groove?
gonzolagonda 4 years ago
yeah that's a really intelligent definition of a groove. :)

reason is so sexy...

do the beats have to be programmed within the redrum unit?? i mean you make no mention of how there are many many different ways of programming drums within reason, for example i like to use matrix units wired to specific channels within the redrum unit to do my drums visually with the matrix units.... will this still affect the timings of the drums?>?? i will experiment to find out!

well this sound i heard allready!all reason users sound the same, same sounds same effects !ofcourse you can do alot init!but girl i got hardware like a korg triton and more and my cubase sx records it live ,its like reason only 100000000 better, much better quality!!you should convince people to buy reason!you didnt do that!!masybe because im more pro then you, lolbut i do think a artist needs soft wich he can turns into his own with plugins

NEVER stick with an older version of Reason.

I appreciate this vid but please explain how you got your drums on individual lanes?
djsoulrebel 4 years ago
How I do that is Just record a pass of one drum like the kick
then I can choose new lane and then record the snare thats not as musical but can be done. U can also record all the prts in one lane and then copy them and delete whats not needed
zellymusic 4 years ago
Cool, late reply so i kinda figured this out on my own but thanks for gettin back to me!
djsoulrebel 4 years ago
I'm fine with my version 2. I don't see the point of getting an update.
Maybe I#m ignorant, but there are no such drastic improvements for my applications, that version 2 doesn't provide.

Try THOR and you change idea...
zirello 4 years ago
Dear dockaiser...
it has TEMPO automation,
the combinator,
the MClass suite,
Thor AND Regroove.
It also has better sequencer AND better response. You will understand what i mean if you use it. Try a demo. You won't regret it ;)

Do I need Mac OS X, or could I use my 9.2 ?
dockaiser 4 years ago
Nice question.
Here it says...
Mac OS X 10.4
at minimum requirements.
Oh well :(
ShadowDreadblade 4 years ago
Combinator alone should be enough to make you want an upgrade
nickstarks 3 years ago
should have used a ride would have been easier... and would have sounded less "really quick"
