This movie was just awful, there was hardly anything paranormal in it, it had a Psychic but clearly didn't have enough plot for a full 90 min, there have been Pyschic stories in the past which were more interesting than this (see Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose) halfway through watching it I thought 'is this The X Files, I must have gone to see the wrong movie' :)

The show was entertaining until it went mainstream. When the ratings rose and more money came in it became a mess. Carter had a lot of TV time to say something, and once he had everones ear, he really didnt have anything to say at all. Chris Nolan has better things to do than make someones old fav TV show "cool again". It was a longer running version of Twin Peaks and ended up with the same flaws. As for Aliens, the only life that matters is what you interact with in your life.

The X-Files was not all about Aliens. A reason why the Show is so loved is because it wasn't just that, It was a one themed Show. The X-Files is about Unexplained Phenomenon's. Not just Aliens, but Monsters, Vampires, Genetic Mutations, Ghosts, Artificial intelligence, Cannibals, and especially "Psychics". Have you ever seen the TV show? It has as much as everything to do with it then the First Movie.

The show was versatile in that, yes, but the movies were intended to further the plot about the alien conspiracy. The fact that it was hyped up as that for years and then revealed as nothing more than an extended MOW episode was highly dissapointing. Especially as it came out in 2008, only four years away from the fated "Dooms Day". It barely had anything from the series at all except the characters; everything was hand-waved.

Thoroughly disappointing film. Like many others, I had expected a plot along the lines of the "Alien Mythology," but what we got instead was a mishmash of religious overtones; what a pity. Oh, well. We can only hope that the next film (if rumors are to be believed) gives us what we all have been waiting for: a good continuation of the Alien Mythology.

I am a HUGE X Files fan, but I hated this movie. The first one was awesome but I think that's also because they were still in the t.v. series. I miss this show, it's always been my favorite I am in the process of buying them all on dvd but they are expensive even though they are worth it. Rumor has it they will be making one more X Files movie, don't know if it's true or not but if it is I hope it is better then this one and as good as the first one.

I want to believe they will make another movie and this time about the mythology. It is a shame they settled with this lame plot. I'm sure they understood they stood to gain more investment dollars from a film which kept going back to "the terribleness of religion." I think the reason why so many people were disappointed over this flick is (obviously) because it had a plot much like a regular filler episode. Expectations went sky-high for them to continue the alien plot - and this was reiforced by the teaser preview showing a quick glimpse of a man (the phychic pedophile) seemingly with the "black oil" oozing from his eyes. He was actually crying blood in the movie. The colors were distorted in the preview, making the blood look almost black.

The X Files is definitely the best SCI-FI show ever made - unique storyline/script, great visual effects, perfect acting, deep atmosphere. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson did a brilliant job.

Everyone has their own opinion of what the BEST episode may be, but my personal favorite is "Unusual Suspects" from Season 5. This is the episode that focused on the origin of the Lone Gunmen.
