  • 4:09 is pretty sick.

  • ‎"A champion is someone who gets up when he can't." - Jack Dempsey

  • 2:40 Execution

  • LOL at the folks who think Tyson would've stood a chance against Dempsey. Jack's speed and absolutely brutal left hook would make short work of Tyson.

  • Damn he took a MF beatinh thats better than Rocky Balboa lol

  • oh yeah..... did they only sell 1 hat back in the 20s or what?

  • oh man, jess willard just taught me how to take a beating

  • Willard was a beast. To take a beating like that and from Jack Dempsey no less and still get up time after time...it takes courage and heart.

  • Wooow! Thats not pretty to watch! If only Jess stayed down he wouldnt have sufferes such terrible injuries. BUT rules back then were utterly stupid. Those rules completely prevented and neutralized any objectivity of one or the other boxer´s knowledge and superiority. This was gambling!! Translation: one boxer landed a lucky hit and got the privilege to beat the other one for the rest of the day. Simple as that. It was kinda unfair, dont you think, people?

  • what an ass hole beating his opponent from behind

  • @danny90099 Rules were different in the past mate.

  • if mike tyson was to fight dempsey he would destroy him within 5 seconds

  • If you watch this thinking of modern rules, you will tend to be ashamed of it. Of course the rules at that time were not the same as today. Willard gets knocked down at least 3 times the same round, there were no neutral corner, the referee didn't even check if Willard could continue fighting.

A brutal beating, awful to watch.

  • DEMPSEY ROLL

  • Man that's what you call having an off day!

  • Can you imagine how boxing would change overnight if you had to take a free hit to the stomach every time you were caught holding?

  • jack dempsey in my opinion in my opinion the best irish boxer of all time time

  • @xXiRaZzoRXx native american irishmen

  • LMAO jesus christ, damn so basically if u got knocked down, your were fukd, the little guy was up his ass every time he got up, he had no chance to breath lmao

  • It seems 1 person would wanna see Floyd mayweather dance around for 30 minutes than see real men box!

  • @DeejayReAKT805 Real men box? This fight was ass, some big ass chump who had no business with a world title was getting schooled by Jack Dempsey who just kept throwing wild punches and landing all of them.

  • @YoungDrizzle215 what you think this was the only dempsey fight where he was really trying to fight? The old timers where there to fight not dance around and get paid! Boxing sucks now cuz no one wants to fight! just take a dive and get paid!

  • @YoungDrizzle215

1.That "Big ass chump" beat Jack Johnson

So "He has no business" is bullshit and everyone knows it.

2.No "Wild Punches" can land THAT many times.

    3.This fight was epic.

  • @dennisbudasz123123 1. He beat an old jack johnson who reports say was winning the fight until he couldn't go anymore in the really late rounds.

    2. When you are that big and un-skilled, you can get hit with anything. Dempsey was not fighting a smart fight at all this time, he went in there and utterly threw until he destroyed that guy.

  • You'd have to go to Cambodia these days to see something this brutal.

  • Hajime no ipp took me here.

  • was there any other boxing match which smaller boxer beat the bigger boxer?

  • The ref must have hated Williard's guts to not stop the fight.

  • Comment removed

  • This was a disgraceful fight, with the ref allowing Dempsey to pummel Willard several times in R1 when he was trying to rise to his feet after a knockdown. Thank God the rules changed after this bout to have the fighter move to a neutral corner in the event of a knockdown. The ref should have ended the fight sooner as well. Willard was age 37 at this point and hadn't fought in 3 years so he was too out of condition to make a decent match against a finely-tuned fighting machine that Dempsey.

  • @musiclover59 Yes he had, he fought during the entire time but he only made one title defense in 1916 before then.

  • @musiclover59 "Willard fought several times over the next four years, but made only one official title defense prior to 1919, defeating Frank Moran on March 25, 1916, at Madison Square Garden."

Talking about him after beating Johnson.

  • best left hook of all time, until Joe Fraizer...

  • @vitorbelfort i gotta disagree. until floyd patterson (then joe frazier)

  • @jamok3 ya, good point.

  • I knew boxing was way more brutal back then, but this is something else.

  • damn...rules back then suck. they just let u go bhind your opponent and punch them while theyre down

  • Comment removed

  • Those were the days. That announcer is awesome.

  • Jack is my favorite ever.He was a gentleman and a killer.

  • We're taught by the politics of today's wimpified standards that speed is they main key but instinct and natural talent are still what makes a true athlete. You see the boxers today talk about he couldn't handle my speed and go 12 rounds doing a dance.I miss the extra 3 rounds that separated the men from the boy wannabe's;none of these boxers today would even choose to box if they had to go 15 rounds and really fight with less rules.

  • Dempsey Roll!

  • Check out Dempsey's arms & shoulders in proportion to the rest of his upper body, clearly the signs of a puncher. Where ever Jack whent, he would bring an asswhooping with him.

  • @speddyg he has a book on his techniques too that i heard was amazing

  • Haha hajime no ippo and Dempsey - 3

  • hajime no ippo brought me here

  • Klitschkos behave yourselfs, klitsckos in them days would of been destroyed and wouldn't be looked upon as tough guys you dont understand in Dempsey's day it was fight for your life survival win or "die trying" today its fight for your money, Jack Dempsey's one of the all time greats like Rocky Marciano, Joe Louis,Joe Fraizer,George Foreman.and Ali.

  • fuckin retard ref

  • Christ, I have a toaster that records in better quality.

  • Dempsey never fought a black guy. So... he's kind of a phony.

  • @TheBrindleBoxer Dempsey wasn't no phony.

  • @TheBrindleBoxer he fought a lot of black guys, but just not in his title defences...

  • Dempsey was like a mongoose for the first minute of that first round and then he just lets those hands go and crashes blow after blow into Willard's face. Jess has to be one of the bravest, and toughest, souls to continue to get up throughout that first round. What a beating.

  • Half a dozen teeth?

  • I like Dempsey but I don't see the skill in this. Of course, there's probably some boxing historian blinded by nostalgia and the bygone days who would say, "you just don't see it kid." however, it all just seems crude and amateurish (both the fighters and the ref who let Dempsey all but suckerpunch a less than composed Willard who was still keeled over from a knockdown). Willard has no jab, allowing Dempsey to just shove his way inside. The Klitchko Bros would eat Dempsey alive.

  • @bizmonkey007 its like comparing pele or best to a modern football player. they arent as good technically or physically but for their time, they were waaaayyy ahead! just like our grandchildren will not see all the fuss about a roy jones jr etc.

  • @uponmysoapbox1 Yes... Totally agree with you...

  • @bizmonkey007 When you get a guy that's 6'7" and 260 lbs down you take every advantage of keeping him down. And since they weren't exactly exercising the neutral corner rule I wonder what you or I would have done differently from Dempsey. I know I would have hit that giant of a man as soon as those knees left the mat every time.

  • @bizmonkey007 of course the klitschkos would beat dempsey. this is nearly a century ago you moron.

  • Like 99% of everybody in this video is dead now!

  • @Wondermouth1 I believe 100% of the people are dead. Unless some 120 year old is hanging out somewhere lol.

  • boardwalk empire

  • Boardwalk Empire did brought me here!

  • Mans247 haha boardwalk empire did bring me here

  • Every member of the audience is wearing the same hat.

  • Thumbs up if Boardwalk Empire brought you here

  • 02:40 the DempseyRoll

  • @koneeetje oh its simple. If you don't want to get hit while getting back up, then don't get knocked the fuck down. The athlete who manages the upper hand can capitalize on his success. It is a less forgiving contest of athletes, with larger consequences for failure.

Yes, that is sport. Now the subsequent rounds are harder to call sport. But the champ insisted on continuing, so it would have been insulting for Dempsey to have held back. I suppose I don't expect everyone to understand.

  • That's awesome, he did the Dempsey roll.

  • God you have give Jess some respect....dude has some heart getting up that much...

  • Man what an ass whooping...Dude was No Joke

  • If only they had High Definition cameras back then.

  • @1966RWB I got a better idea: "if only I could go back in time".

  • @1966RWB your right...would have loved to see some of the old time fighters in high definition

  • Comment removed

  • That is because this commentary was done after the fight took place.

  • 1 person was beaten to death.

  • This looks more like rape then a fight....

  • that is hilariously humiliating how they wouldn't let them stand back up in those old fights.

  • Damn everybody has the same hat

  • every one in the backgrounds wearing hats

  • the ORIGINAL TKO! <3 Dempsey was the definition of a BEAST!

  • Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard - WOW

  • he didnt wait for him to take back the fighting stance, why?

  • @tonylaf123 Because there wasn't a standing 8 back then, nor was there a rule that Dempsey was supposed to go to a neutral corner. If you were to be knocked down in that era, your opponent was allowed to stand near you while you tried to get up. The second you were on your feet, you were allowed to get hit.

  • everyone in the crowd is wearing the same thing..

  • nice head but by Dempsey, @1:39 and got away with it. I enjoy the beaten that Willard, receives. We all kkknow Jack Johnson, was paid off to be dropped by this large dopy and unskilled Willard. Because their wasn't a single white hope around.

  • @MrEdlgar why would johnson beat willard for 27 rounds to take a dive? willard was 35-40 here and hadnt had a fight for 5ish years.

  • What kind of boxing match is this, the guy is defenseless and the ref allows Dempsey to hit him. Where people in that era retarded?

Muhammed Ali was right when he said "Jack Dempsey is a joke." He wouldn't survive against boxers 40 or 50 years after his era of fighting.

  • @kadees21 are you retarded? these guys was men. boxers these days are pussies. boxing was different in these days. these guys fought 20-50 rds in a night then went to work the next day. ali was stupid arrogant punk. tyson would kill ali. dempsey in todays boxing wouldnt do great but any boxer today fought dempsey under these rules would lose.

  • @kadees21 What I'm saying is boxing is developed into something more than just throwing fists of fury. There is a science and strategy behind it. And fr that reason a guy like Dempsey would get knocked out. And another thing, I thought it was kind of unfair that Willard was getting punched before he had time to gather himself, I mean he was barely on his feet!

  • @kadees21 That is boxing before even the joe louis and rocky marciano era.Just saying.

  • I think Larry Merchant is the commentator.

  • willard is the toughest person on the that has ever lived. and dempsey is the hardest puncher of all time. what i would pay to see tyson in his prime take on dempsey in his prime. it would be a war.

  • @MikeArpeggio345 I have great respect for Jack Dempsey, but his power and speed were nothing compared to Tyson's in his prime. Boxing evolved greatly between Dempsey's era and Tyson's, with Tyson being by far more sophisticated (in addition to faster and stronger.) Even if Dempsey had a chance to train in the modern ways from the beginning of his career, I still think Tyson would have crushed him. Again, I say this with respect to Dempsey but I just don't see him winning against Tyson.

  • @number9scheme Tyson?...he was KO'd by Buster Douglas...he quit against a past his prime Holyfield by biting his ear because he was getting his ass handed to him...a prime Dempsey would kick Tyson's ass....he has no heart...he's never gotten off the canvas to win a fight...as most all of the greats have done...

  • No hugging and kissing in this fight. Must be that evolution thing.

  • ref wanted willard to die

  • And so the TKO was born...

  • i cant believe he survived O.O

  • @MrTamzah74 You say that, but look how he charges his punches. That's talent.

  • @MrTamzah74 people respect dempsey because he fought in a time where a penny was worth 20 dollars, in a time when people didnt loaf around like today. jack dempsey earned his name because he went from a nobody to a legend in the times of the great depression.

  • fuckin dudley

  • 1:59 COME AT ME BRO

  • @MrTamzah74 Are you serious? That guy who "couldn't even compete in today's Heavyweight wasteland" was taller and weighed more than Tyson. And you're right to call boxing today a "wasteland". Tyson bit off a guys fucking ear. That's not boxing, thats disgraceful. That's why people dismiss his successes. Besides, even Muhammed Ali was questioned during his career, people said his opponent threw the fight because it was over so fast. It happens, it probably happened to Dempsey too, get over it.

  • holy shit willard can take a hit

  • I'm not dismissing anyone's success. But I still think Dempsey was great too.

  • Dempsey climbed his way to the title fighting his far share of quality oppostion on the way up. Opponents such as Bill Brennan, Billy Miske, Carl Morris, Fred Fulton were top notch contenders on the way up and they were in there prime.

  • @MrTamzah74 That scrappy club fighter just knocked the World Heavyweight Champion down seven times in the first round. Unimpressive my ass

  • 2:40 - DEMPSEY ROLL

  • I've seen most of the great fights: Fight of the Century, Thrilla in Manila, Rumble in the Jungle, The Sound and the Fury, Sunshine Showdown, etc. etc., but this was the first one for me that was truly hard to watch.

  • they maneuver around the side of the ring now what what what there's that big left and willard's down!

  • i love this !

  • so dempsey didn't win his money? lol

  • this is more entertaining then modern boxing...although a I believe there is no reason to go until you are loosing teeth...that kind of stuff can ruin lives

  • @iamtheemighty1 You cant judge fighters like that unfortunately, styles make fights. Frazier beat Ali, Ali beat Foreman, Foreman beat Frazier

  • ha ha he puched him before he got back up thats a foul

  • @iamtheemighty1 LOL good one thanks

  • @iamtheemighty1 - Nice original comeback!

  • @iamtheemighty1 -You need to change your username to iamthemightypieceofshit !!! Take your racist ass to some hiphop channel.

  • @1899sharkey go rape your mother again she needs you now

  • @1899sharkey hey 1899sharkey go rape your daddy she needs you now

  • IMBA!!!

  • of course you won't see a fight like this, it shouldve been over after the 3rd knock down, lol. he wasn't even all the way up n he hit him again, then he was holding on the ropes n he hit him again, just lack of rules n counting, thats why youll never see it like this again, lol.

  • @bphatboyjohn123 No third down rule existed at the time. No neutral corner rule. The rule was once both knees left the canvas you could resume punching. He really didn't break the rules here, just beat Willard's ass.

  • @ChrisKoch1989 well i meant cuz after the 3rd time, he was too out of it, not cuz he got knocked down 3 straight times, n i know he prob. didnn't break any rules, i was just saying of course u won't see a fight this brutal n crazy anymore because of the rules now,

  • thanks for the vid.. i appreciate that you uploaded it.. jack dempsey was fun to watch

  • America when it was beautiful.

  • You don't get great commentating like this anymore!

  • @michaelmurph Those were the days.

  • this is fightin for real... no boxing.. LOVED IT :D

  • I love how everyone is wearing the same hat.

  • Thanks for showing the second and third rounds of this fight. They are hardly ever shown.

  • Dempsey, Pep, Robinson, Ali, Leonard...They all got something in common, Real fighters will see it

  • dempsey is way better than all modern fighters!

back in 1918 they didnt have ipods n shit so dempsey

went around taken kids milk money and kicken ass all around town!

    dats waz up R.I.P jd

  • Dempsey is one of the all time American greats and he would kill any top contender today

  • At 3:52 Dempsey knocked into tomorrow...check out the additional frame

  • what the hell is that thumping noise?

  • Thank you for the Upload..great!

  • You got it backwards. Most modern fighters are nowhere near as good as the older ones, mostly because they don't fight as often.

  • By God they both suck compared to modern fighters.

  • GOD DAM that was an ass whoopin

  • 1899 sharkey..ur not related to jack ru? read the book. willards book u will c 4 yourself

  • jack hand wraps were rumors to be soakedin plaster..which jess in laters years said this was true, jacks camp did this because jack was afraid of big jess

  • @09bnunez - Yes... and the moon landing was fake.

  • Bet Willard would have voted YES for the 3 knock down rule

  • Talk about a bloody beating in a lop-sided matchup. Willard had the advantage and still had his head pummeled. They should have called this in round 2.

  • 92 years later my jaw hurts watching that punishment.

  • @goodbadanduglypoker And your fist too if you gave out that kind of punishment..

  • @jseph1234567890 I'd take the broken hand over the busted jaw and lack of teeth :-)

  • That's why Marciano retired before he ever had to face him.

  • @darthrhom Thats a bit like saying Tyson retired before fighting Ali, there is about 40yrs between this fight and Marciano retiring in 1956. Tho' I think Dempsey in his prime against Marciano would have been one hell of a fight.

  • Im watching this thinking, Maybe thats where he lost the tooth...Maybe thats the punch that deafened him, Theres the broken rib lol classic

  • It would've been funny if Dempsey lost the match at the end of round one by count out.

  • gotta gives jess some props... even after getting beaten like that, he still continues to fight

  • @ruckaisawesome Definitley the man has heart to carry on after that beating.

  • No mandatory 8 count rule + No neutral corner rule = Dempsey positioning himself BEHIND Willard and beating the crap out of him

  • How can you just hover right over a dude that just got knocked down and throw haymakers on him before he even fully stands up?? I mean Dempsey was clearly gonna knock the shit out of him anyway but to me that was a total bitch move.

  • @ksizzle1016 that was the rules back then.........early 1900's

  • @ksizzle1016 That was allowed back then, a common practice. The rule that sent a boxer to a neutral corner when he knocked his opponent down wasn't introduced until 7 years later, and I personally believe beatdowns like this one are the reason that rule was put in place.

  • the dancing at 9:05 ...lulz

  • What an amazing fight! Willard is lucky to have been alive at the end!

  • wft that guy had to have at least 50 lbs on him and dempsey humiliated him

  • @henrry889

    black Bruce Lee

  • This fight would of been stopped by the second knockdown in the modern day era.

  • Wow

  • boxing was brutal in those days

  • Now thats what i like to see : )

  • Holy shit can you believe this fight was filmed 92 years ago??!!

  • dis shyt is crazy wtf lmao cool

  • willard quits with nose, cheekbone broken and half a dozen teeth knocked out.

wish i was around to see how real men fought back then.
