  • Where are the haters now?

  • 10th planet and submission 101 for life! my students love this system and love eddie bravo

  • what does this submission do to you

  • Great move. Definitely requires some practice for me personally though, as I´m quite lightweight; I tend to lose my balance when I posture while doing this move. Better for me if I work to this slowly.

I think going to mount or sidecontrol from this position is usually more straightforward, but it's nice to mix it up with something that isn't expected (like this move) from time to time.

Love pulling one off though. There is something about rolling into a position that feels slick.

  • From the truck position, can you transition to some like stoner control or the electric chair and start working some of those half guard sweeps?

  • The twister looks exactly like what we called a guillotine in wrestling. You go about getting in that position differently than we did but let me tell you, that is one painful move! I'm sure its a great submission, didn't work well for pinning an opponent but got lots of back points.

  • just learned a similar move except we take the back from the "samurai" roll

  • this is great

  • this videos are pretty informative and just plain awesome to me. i wish i had some money and know-how of where to go. i live in ohio by the way.

  • nice,I like it ..great job!!!!!!!

  • very slick. I like the fact you can also get the back. Great videos guys.

  • Awesome. I especially love the ability to get the back from here. Keep up the good work with the videos. They are some of the best around.

  • OMG I always get stuck in quarter guard!

  • Doesnt anybody else think that names of the bjj moves are realy funny, if you dont know the move, you will have no idea what is it about.

  • Why go for the neck crank when you could just go for the calf crank? In the truck position wouldn't the calf crank be easier since an experienced player would know not to give up his arm like that?

  • @M00B0X a nice combo is to go for the calf crank first, and then if they defend it with their hands, you can grab their arm and go to the twister.

  • Highly impressed with the quality of the videos and the instruction. Thank you so much for posting these videos. I am sure at times it must get discouraging posting these and getting negative/trolling comments. Please continue with more, I greatly appreciate it.

  • ari, that's not the quarter guard.

  • @borayongacoglu that is what we refer to it in the 10th Planet system and what Eddie calls it. I have no doubt that others have different definitions for moves.

  • @Submissions101 if thats what you guys call 1/4 guard then what do you call a real 1/4 guard? by the way this move is completely unrealistic and would be near impossible to perform. after you successfully roll them but before you secure their other foot or back of the head they can easily keep rolling with it to reverse position and end up in your 1/2 guard pause at 0:56. there is absolutely nothing preventing him from switching his shoulders and taking top position.

  • @forbesfoofighters Yeah and it seems like everyone on here is agreeing with u? Oh wait theyre not!

  • @forbesfoofighters i strongly suggest you watch UFN 24 Sung - Garcia and never talk crap again

  • @Submissions101 don't discard my comment either please, i only speak the truth.

  • @forbesfoofighters The 'truth' by your inference, means that what you speak is true and what we (or others speak or believe) is false. I can tell you that I have seen this done many times, done it many times and been caught in it too. It depends on how you train and what you train in. I love how people criticize without every doing the move. I see this lots. Sure, not all move work all the time on all people but this ain't fantasy to be sure. Go visit Eddie at his school and see what's possible

  • @forbesfoofighters I'm not a 10th Planet member but I can vouch for that and all the other moves I have ever tried from the 10th Planet system. It seems like the only people that talk crap about it are those that have never attempted any of the moves. Thanks Submissions101, your videos are a great resource keep up the good work!

  • quarter guard ? omg.

  • lol the twister

  • is the samurai exclusive to the 10th planet or is it from bjj and just got named?

  • Never fail to impress guys :)

  • For all those worried about neck cranks and calf-crushers being illegal...the thing about the entering into the twister (and by default, the Truck), is that you have an excellent control position that does not require you to take the twister spine-lock. I train BJJ with the gi as well, and I love using the twister roll, DeSouza control, Ford/Dodge, etc. to get back control. When you're in the Truck and the twister, the back is just a step or two away

  • I agree...it is just a submission. i have NEVER heard a 10th Planet guy say the twister is the best.-EVER. The twister is just one of many submission out there in the world of grappling. Too many mis informed people out there about 10th Planet

  • these dudes are badass.......i wanna train with them......then crush G.S.P....

  • you guy's are awesome!

  • maybe in submission wrestling, but in a real UFC fight i would probably go ground n pound

  • WOW people are really creative when it comes to exploiting muscle strains and joints. Its amazing that there are so many submissions.

  • My friend always make this grip, now I have the solution to finish the combat. Thanks Ari Bolden...

  • u can also do a banana crank from that position at 1min

  • lol baseball bat control

  • wow damn i love 10 planet

  • why is it called the samurai? Quarter guard is a lot common counter for the mount..

  • I did this move for the first time in training the other day after months of waiting for someone to get quarter guard. I was well chuffed with myself. This truly is a beautiful technique.

  • i love jiu jitsu

  • i love dis move but u knw wat else u can do after you roll an trap the leg, u can go for a banana split, i did it and it rocked!!

  • yeah me too i think its even easier because he will try to distract u from crancing his neck with his arm if u cant trap it good enough.but i love this move when im rolling with beginners cauze they end up in quarter most more often then others

  • banana splits must hurt for boys lol

  • i dont think i would ever pull this off unless it was a mistake aha. sick move tho

  • thats why you need to practice it. Start practicing on lower level guys during live rolls. The worst that can happen is you lose your quarter guard mount and end up in a neutral position.

  • i did it to my friend today. but what i didnt realize was the he was actually in half guard instead of quarter. so i guess i figured you could do it from your oppenets half guard.

  • OH MY GOD!!!!! what the fuck else need so to be said. NASTY!!!!!

  • very good demos here, guys. The explanations are clear and you do a pretty good job of showing all the little details - that are hard to catch on camera sometimes!

Much better quality than most I see on youtube.

    5/5

  • okay try this then.... Get quarter guard, do the figure 4 like he has it... but grab the other foot, not the one used fo the twister but the one that is locked in. but roll over ur shoulder near his legs, and it is a calf crunch/double calf crunch. you place ur heel on his heel and push up while pullin his leg down. Legal in Naga Grap quest etc... be careful it hurts.

  • ju-jitsu looks better then so many other arts. Its basicaly common knowledge turned into pratice. Alot more useful for self defence aswel. Im going to take classes when i get the time.

  • It takes about three years of classes for Jujitsu to become instinct... however you can still use the knowledge before then ofc

  • Good video, five stars. Couldn't It be more simple attack the free leg after the shoulder rolling? You could grab and pull the free leg, at the same time you push the other opponent's leg with your legs.

    This is a Sambo technique.

    P.S.

Sorry for my terrible english and a big hello from Rome, Italy

  • After you roll over your shoulder (in MMA of course) would it be more effective to drop downward elbows to the ribs or to go for the Twister/take the back?

  • Im just wondering how effective is the quarter gaud in MMA?

  • think of the quarter guard as an in between stage (trying to get to half guard). Not the strongest position for the bottom player

  • yea banana split or spladle...in wrestlin we call this a geitine...it hurts like crazy

  • is the twister illegal in ibjjf for white belts?

  • yes it is illegal. it is a neck crank.

  • There are MANY competitions where neck cranks are legal as are leg locks. Not everyone does IBJJF rules.

  • but the poster specifically asked about IBJJF.

  • I didn't see you reply to the actual post ;-) my bad

  • no worries. i cant quite see what is going on with the legs, but i like this technique very much. i would like to learn it.

  • I am still drilling common basics in BJJ, so I have not done this yet; cheers for the info :-)

  • awesome sweep i just tried it on my room mate works well

  • great vid, lots of options after hooking..thanks agian guys!

  • A quick calf crank just after hooking, left arm goes around his right ankle, right arm shoots under his right thigh then s-grip? roll on right shoulder maybe? Still trying to work on the twister...key word "trying"

  • I first saw Eddie do this in Toronto of last year

the whole class went ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

  • Hmm good technique but you can't call that the quarter guard. The quarter guard already exist.. for a long time. Its a completely different position.

  • Really? That is what we call it. What is your understanding of a quarter guard? WE realize that some people have the same names for different positions. This position is what Eddie Bravo calls it and we learned it from him.

  • the other quarter guard is a hybrid of maybe half guard and hook similar to spider guard. Its more of a gi thing, BUT some people are doing it in no gi.

  • looks like you can also work calf crusher from that.

  • only danger is the small window of opportunity for your opponent to take your back.

  • Would you say striking them (elbows etc) as they turn would be a better option?

  • nice!

  • hey this is kind of rubish okkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice one Ari! I utilize quarter guard all the time! I'll have to be careful no to get caught by this.

  • i want the destroyer arm lock dammit ;)

  • a very creative turnover. are submissions like banana split also available?

  • yup

  • You guys are awesome and I cant wait for you guys and eddie to come to Laredo, TX for the seminar in March.

  • I'm unfamiliar with the quarter guard, please post some techniques from this. Otherwise great vid.

  • It's just the first step for the person on bottom to work to half guard. It's one mount escape. I kind of like it for someone that has a really good base and is hard to roll over.

  • omgomgomg i love this

  • You guys rule.

  • Once again a ridiculously sick post!! i wish you had a school in jersey!!

  • You and me both!

  • hah i am u guys' fan, i watch all the videos... buh.. can u just... talk more about the flying arm bar? cuz i still cant do it

  • BANANA SPLIT!!!!!1

  • awsome

  • I guess this video implies that there is some advantage to using quarter-guard, but I'm pretty unfamiliar with it; could you do a vid about what you can actually do from that position?

  • The boys at submission101 are simply awesome!

  • I wish I could take your classes

  • great vid. completed unrelated but looking through your vids for attacking the home alone position from my gaurd. Hes sitting in defense posture doing nothing but waiting in EB's home alone. many thanks and keep posting.

  • Great video!

  • This is great! Do you see anything wrong with doing the calf crank from top instead of rolling into the truck? Or are you to precarious with your legs triangled? I guess theirs a chance of being punched. I'll try it tomorrow just thought I'd check.

  • That is sick!

  • best move EVER. pulling that off seems complicated.....but doable

  • it looks complicated but is really easy especially if you let some one get you in quarter guard from the mount

  • that is wickedly great!!!
