laptops are cheaper for what u get but theres little need to upgrade so often like in the past so macs are a better investment. and they get way more battery life unless u wanna spend 1600 on a sony laptop...
@carrierform I dropped by mac by accident onto carpet. The left side containing the USB ports completely succumbed in the middle so USBs now connect at an angle. My black bar above the keyboard has roughly 5 cracks running across it. My battery cover no longer fits on properly. Yeah really tough....

That HP Laptop is most probbably 3 time the weaght of the macbook air, and people would feel the strain, and why would you need more than what the MacBook Air has for just E-Mail, Presentations and general office work on the move?

Apple is good at making things weigh less and making their products thinner. They also are good at making user friendly software and GUIs. But I personally wouldn't buy anything that thin because if it falls it would snap in half.
They probably take solid pieces of aluminum and mill them out with a very precise milling machine. They did the same thing on my Mossberg shotgun for the bolt, so it would be dense, strong, and keep the weight down.
Steve Jobs should be a cult leader. Apple makes the best laptop but at a hefty price. Till this day I don't see alot of people with the macbook air. This tank is way over priced. I'm sure the popularity of the cheaper netbooks over shadowed the air. Apple needs to wake up and make a $500 netbook.

Most people don't realize that Apple computers use the same parts as Dell, or HP. The cost to manufacture the hardware is very similar, and yet the product costs nearly twice as much in some cases.

I'm a big Apple fan, but i just can't see the point of the Macbook Air. The reason why i say this is because look at the MacBook. It's got the same size screen, same size keybord, much more power, & it's a hell of a lot cheaper. Sure the Macbook Air is super thin & light, but so is the Macbook. It only weighs like 5 pounds, & it's really not a whole lot thicker. So You think about it & you'll see the Macbook is clearly the better choice for Someone who travels alot.

Nope, I don't have one (I don't travel much though, so I just use a macbook). It doesn't have a disk drive. Instead, it includes software so that you can borrow the disk drive from a nearby computer.
lmao. i want one. i dont care about a disk drive, dont need one really... its got a usb port and a headphone jack. that's all i'll use. microfones in it, and webcam too.this thing is very useful when you dont want to carry another protective case with all your bulky cds beside your other bag. :D its very nice especially for lazy people like me.

You can say stuff like that about most ultra-portables. For example, small screen, small keyboard, expensive, limited hardware features, breaks easily, and actually, there are several ultra-portables that don't have a disk-drive either (Apple tries to work around this with software, which I think they did a pretty good job at). It's all about making the right sacrifices.
What's the point of making sacrifices in the first place? Where's the logic in removing essential components that ultimately make a laptop? A Dell XPS m1330, Lenovo ThinkPad X300 and the Sony Vaoi TZ series all have DVD-Drive, have multiple USB ports, and have removable batteries. And guess what, they're as small, or even smaller than the Mac Air. The only difference is that they're cheaper and far more practical.
Every single one of those ultra-portables is significantly thicker than the Macbook Air. Heck, the Dell Ultra-portable is about twice the size, and is actually thicker than the standard Macbook.
Some people find the benefits outweigh the hindrances with an ultra-portable. I don't have a use for one, but that doesn't mean no one does.
So, basically you're saying, as long as its 2cm thick, you're willing to pay $1,800 for an otherwise handicapped machine? Please read that out aloud.
Still, the Mac Air is large, it's wide as hell. If you want portable go with a Sony Vaio TZ, have you actually held it? It's roughly the size of an A4 pad.
You have to shell out a further $100 on a external optics drive, which should be included.
Like I just said, I don't have a use for it. Heck, I hardly travel at all. The AIr was designed for travelers that would rather have 3 lbs and half an inch than 6 lbs and 1.4 inches. I think a large keyboard/screen will be enough to 'deal with' it's width.
The Macbook Air is roughly >half an inch thick overall (.76 - .16, or .46 mean). It includes software if you really need to use a disk drive. flawless no, but better than having it with the added thickness/weight and not needing it.
True, it's designed for a certain niche of customers. Granted, I'm NOT against Apple or anything, in fact I've never used a single product ever, I'd love to try one out someday. But from a designers perspective, Mac Air is seriously flawed, and Jobs dancing around saying it's the thinnest, doesn't do it any favours.

Apple is good at making things weigh less and making their products thinner. They also are good at making user friendly software and GUIs. But I personally wouldn't buy anything that thin because if it falls it would snap in half.

They probably take solid pieces of aluminum and mill them out with a very precise milling machine. They did the same thing on my Mossberg shotgun for the bolt, so it would be dense, strong, and keep the weight down.

Steve Jobs should be a cult leader. Apple makes the best laptop but at a hefty price. Till this day I don't see alot of people with the macbook air. This tank is way over priced. I'm sure the popularity of the cheaper netbooks over shadowed the air. Apple needs to wake up and make a $500 netbook.

That's not a particularly intelligent thing to say.
Most people don't realize that Apple computers use the same parts as Dell, or HP. The cost to manufacture the hardware is very similar, and yet the product costs nearly twice as much in some cases.
It will continue to overpriced, unless enough people express dissatisfaction.
Hence... my expression of dissatisfaction.

I'm a big Apple fan, but i just can't see the point of the Macbook Air. The reason why i say this is because look at the MacBook. It's got the same size screen, same size keybord, much more power, & it's a hell of a lot cheaper. Sure the Macbook Air is super thin & light, but so is the Macbook. It only weighs like 5 pounds, & it's really not a whole lot thicker. So You think about it & you'll see the Macbook is clearly the better choice for Someone who travels alot.

but the best notebook at the moment has to be the acer aspire gemstone blue. its got everythin. its light its powerfully and its HD. its got a new nvidia graphics card, 19inch widescreen crystal brite display, gorgeous design, duel core, supports 8gb of ram.

nobody on a Mac needs those old school features, they are fully on the web, full time, so CDs and USB ports are worthless.

Nope, I don't have one (I don't travel much though, so I just use a macbook). It doesn't have a disk drive. Instead, it includes software so that you can borrow the disk drive from a nearby computer.

lmao. i want one. i dont care about a disk drive, dont need one really... its got a usb port and a headphone jack. that's all i'll use. microfones in it, and webcam too.this thing is very useful when you dont want to carry another protective case with all your bulky cds beside your other bag. :D its very nice especially for lazy people like me.

The reason its SO thin, is that it can fit inside an envelope, making it easier to return to Apple after it breaks. Great thinking Jobs.
No DVD drive, No expandable memory. Overall useless laptop from a design point of view. Ah well it's only 2cm thick, I'm sure a slight diffence in thickness will make it sell......

You can say stuff like that about most ultra-portables. For example, small screen, small keyboard, expensive, limited hardware features, breaks easily, and actually, there are several ultra-portables that don't have a disk-drive either (Apple tries to work around this with software, which I think they did a pretty good job at). It's all about making the right sacrifices.

What's the point of making sacrifices in the first place? Where's the logic in removing essential components that ultimately make a laptop? A Dell XPS m1330, Lenovo ThinkPad X300 and the Sony Vaoi TZ series all have DVD-Drive, have multiple USB ports, and have removable batteries. And guess what, they're as small, or even smaller than the Mac Air. The only difference is that they're cheaper and far more practical.

Every single one of those ultra-portables is significantly thicker than the Macbook Air. Heck, the Dell Ultra-portable is about twice the size, and is actually thicker than the standard Macbook.
Some people find the benefits outweigh the hindrances with an ultra-portable. I don't have a use for one, but that doesn't mean no one does.

So, basically you're saying, as long as its 2cm thick, you're willing to pay $1,800 for an otherwise handicapped machine? Please read that out aloud.
Still, the Mac Air is large, it's wide as hell. If you want portable go with a Sony Vaio TZ, have you actually held it? It's roughly the size of an A4 pad.
You have to shell out a further $100 on a external optics drive, which should be included.

Like I just said, I don't have a use for it. Heck, I hardly travel at all. The AIr was designed for travelers that would rather have 3 lbs and half an inch than 6 lbs and 1.4 inches. I think a large keyboard/screen will be enough to 'deal with' it's width.
The Macbook Air is roughly >half an inch thick overall (.76 - .16, or .46 mean). It includes software if you really need to use a disk drive. flawless no, but better than having it with the added thickness/weight and not needing it.

True, it's designed for a certain niche of customers. Granted, I'm NOT against Apple or anything, in fact I've never used a single product ever, I'd love to try one out someday. But from a designers perspective, Mac Air is seriously flawed, and Jobs dancing around saying it's the thinnest, doesn't do it any favours.

it's the first anyone has ever been able to accomplish such a task.

XP is better for gaming cause their is more games for it. But for the rest I would rather use a MAC. You can actually have MAC that run both Windows and MAC OS X. We might be getting that soon and get rid of the noisy box. lol
