EQ2 has the personality of that of Mike Tyson. EQ2 was the game to beat, but it suffered from poor descisions. SoE looses interest in EQ2 to work on other MMO's and then later returns to 100% all out hunger when their other MMO fail. We have seen to much reactive. In the last 6 years other MMO company's have been the revolutionizers in content. These last 2 years appear to be a moment of desperasion as we have seen some really amazing additions and some not so. BG, Huge Overlands, Stats, Appear
I disagree with you shiznition, I think the graphics are not so bad, and I know "play for free" is a lie, the game with subscription is really great, just like the story and the quests. And I should mention the music of the trailer is also amazing..

@shiznition EQ2 on full settings require 4GB of memory. 6 Years ago we where running on AVG of 512MB probably. My WoW 80 Warlock compared to my EQ2 Illusionist doesnt stand a chance. In DPS, Spell Quality, Skill needed, Graphics etc. They are 2 deferent beasts and WoW has now set the standard for light weight, Mc Donalds over thick rib eye EQ2 steak; however, with new tools introduced (ex larger overlands) and smarter hardware EQ2 is now very polished. 16 race, 24 class, 25+ spells, BG, etc
EQ2 was horribly coded. That's the reason why it was a resource hog. And no, RAM does not need to be that high for EQ2 to run on full settings. EQ2's main draw on power is the CPU (rather then the GPU), and only as of last year upgraded to using duel cores (not quad cores though).
@Nigralurker I suggest you place Everquest 2 on full settings and read the message that says it recommends at least 4GB of memory! Like you said it DOES use the GPU! How much GPU to CPU the game uses is a question only SoE Developer could answer. I don't doubt that the code of the game is written poorly, but we are not C++ expert game programmers that code on Everquest 2 are we? I suggest you talk to SoE developers!

I'm sorry, i rather read the EQ2 official system recommended requirements. And yes, whenever i subscribe to EQ2, I put it on the highest settings. I've had an i7 rig for the past two years with 6gb 1600mhz ram. Note: Having a larger capacity of ram means nothing if the speed of the ram is slow.
Also, SoE has already pointed out waaaaaaaay back that EQ2 was optimised to take advantage of hardware that does not exist today. The developers thought today we'd have 10 Ghz SINGLE-core CPUs. EQ2 is not designed around multi-core CPUs and high-end GPUs. The game draws very little on the GPU even and most of the game is CPU driven. Also you can find out yourself by downloading a perfHUD which allows you monitor GPU usage ect to show what resources are being drawn in.
The point of eq2x is not to play on and pay for all your armor. It's so you can test the game out with your friends and not have to worry about a time limit like on a free trial.

This is an awesome trailer! Till you download it and realize the only way to play this "free" version is to fork over 7.50 for a race and another 7.50 for a class you like. Even then you have to be signed up for "gold" access which costs 15 a month and you STILL have to pay for classes and races...sorry, but Sony has once again shat on an otherwise really fun game. Yes EQ2 didn't rake in the 5 million plus subscribers, but over all, I'd say it was pretty successful. Still a decent number of players playing as well.

Don't quote me on this (too lazy to get into the game atm), but you are able to select 2 out of 6 classes for each of 4 archtypes (so forget being a ranger), and only 4 out of 19 races are available.

@gokuthebeginner The creators of World of Warcraft are different from the ones who made the RTS series, its pretty common knowledge to both WoW and EQ players that play hardcore, that the 2 lead creators Bill Petras and Kevin Beardslee, who pitched to Jeff Strain the idea of WoW then 3 days later Blizzard approved their idea. So Infact they met while playing EQ which was the first 3D MMORPG, and whated to make a bigger and better EQ which became WoW. (But in reality it became a kid fest).

@dondopen LoL at the Sarcasm. Of course, I know that WoW is the most popular MMO out there, but I personally wouldn't call it the best. I actually liked EQ2. Also, if you check the release dates, EQ2 came out Nov 8, 2004 while WoW came out Nov 23, 2004. A couple weeks after EQ2 did. Yes EQ2 didn't rake in the 5 million plus subscribers, but over all, I'd say it was pretty successful. Still a decent number of players playing as well.

EQ2 just improved what it already had, improved its graphics, increased the skills in the game and the quests.

Tried it yesterday, and there are way too many limitations which just kills it for me
Don't quote me on this (too lazy to get into the game atm), but you are able to select 2 out of 6 classes for each of 4 archtypes (so forget being a ranger), and only 4 out of 19 races are available.
And these are just char creation limits.
