huntin for silver coins in the states is so much easier than in canada, all you have to do is look at the side of the quarters or half dollars and if it looks copper its not silver. Canadian coins are counterfeited by the mint very effectively...unfortunately

You can tell they are silver by the edges of the coins, as well as the dates. Silver coins have grey/silver edges with no copper bands. 1965-1970 are 40%. and all pre 1965 halves are 90%

the bicentennial yars with an S mint mark are proofs and have silver i think they are 40% or clad not sure

@Prepper7 Even then, it's still worth melt value. I have several zip lock bags of 40%s, doesn't bother me. Big dealers will buy $500 face value bags of 40% from you @ a few cents less than spot price. No different than 90% in that respect.
