OH MY FUCKING GOD YOU ARE THE MOST ANNOYING FUCKING KID I HAVE EVER FUCKING SEEN IN MY ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE GO GROW SOME FUCKING BALLS YOU LITTLE PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT GET THE FUCK OFF THE FUCKING INTERNET YOU ANNOYING SON OF A FUCKING FUCK YOU FUCKING PISSED ME THE FUCK OFF
@PlainLee in what respect? we can see the shape of the terrain by using sonar and other technology and I'm sure people have swam, snorkeled, scuba-dived, and used submarines and capsules, to explore more than one percent, comon, check out videos on the mid atlantic trenches, what goes on down there is interesting..
I was cruzing along the ocean floor away from a beach in California on this and was having fun. Then I hit the drop-off and it scared the crap outta me, just a massive expanse of water O.o
@tankydhg not even that, it would cost a lot less when they use satellites, the measure the distance to the bottom of the ocean floor (the same way they measure how tall mountains are), pretty accurate too, then they add in the color and shadows with CG.
Bullshit!! what kind of specs do i need to get the under water terrain??? and stuff actualy ground floor??? its all a big blur! what settings do i need to put it on? because i have a gtx 260 and a pentium d 3.0 which i feel shjould be enough for google
@peppacornrows making this kind of application stokes interest in the oceans. It's a bit ignorant to say that the money would be better spent directly exploring oceans. This will inspire the explorers. You should find out more about the genesis of the project and you'd know that they wanted to 'fill in the blue bits'. 5% is a good start.
It's not useless you can learn a lot. I saw some amazing stuff like the surfacing of a blue whale, and facts about seahorse and how they're population are dieing. It's amazing how much of planet Earth we don't know
kind of cool, but waste of time and energy making this imo.
instead of spending all the money developing this, why not invest in an exploratory expedition that would help uncover some of the 95% of unexplored ocean that humankind has yet to see??
I agree with you 100% and actually take it further with NASA and its expensive budget to explore this earth with all the readily available technology we have now. What is alarming is the fact that NASA is spending an awful lot of money and time in space which indicates (Houston we have a problem). There is an under current here telling us that they know our planet is -doomed- and there for are looking elsewhere.
@peppacornrows because thats not what google earth is about, google earth maps things we already know not discovers things we dont know. you cant ask a company to do somethin with their money that they dont do to start with. imagine asking mcdonalds to spend their money creating new cows lol. :P
When I said, "I hope they do", I meant I hope they do it in order to make a point, or that they make a point some other way, so it's not a pointless excercise.
I only like fish if they are fried and complement chips (fries if you are in the USA).

Google made 1 fucking big mistake
1) we only know 6% of the ocean in the world
2) we dont know how deep the water is (we think around 6km+)
3) it looks horrible
4) this should come out at 2050 when we know the ocean better

NASA budget 2010-US$18b or 0.6% of total budget
US Military budget 2010-US$668b or 23% of total budget
