  • seria increible si tambien don mclean ubiera hecho un cover de ''Pretty Woman''

    gran cancion crying

  • ONLY FOOLS AND HORCES CWWIIINNGGG

  • Favorite one from Don. Nice!

  • HIS NEXT CONCERT IS COMING !!! "The Next Love" at the pasadena civic, 27th august !!!

  • Don hit #5 in Billboard, 3-21-81. Hard to believe that it never got airplay on WLS-AM. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • always cry at this

  • I saw Don in Edinburgh this week. His voice is still brilliant and I cried all the way through this song - he can still kill me softly!

  • i remember buying this on vinyl back in 1980/1 or thereabouts i loved it then and i love it now. don mclean covered this song amazingly well, anyone out there in cyber land care to add to that?

  • I agree, mispudjes ..... a fabulous cover of an already fabulous Big O song. No one else could do it, IMHO. THANK YOU for posting this.

  • awesome voice....

  • It takes some voice to make this piece of musical beauty by Roy Orbison even better than the original.

    Don McLean is that voice.

  • @mispudjes Except that Orbison's version has so much more power at the end... and done effortlessly. Most singers grimace and make very funny faces trying to do this song... Don's version is amazing, not as good as Roy's and maybe not as good as Glen Campbells either! _CHEERS!

  • beautiful,sad ,so full of memories,life in asong .

  • McLean totally captures the essence, the emotion, the power and the spirit of this Orbison gem.

  • this guy is as creative like van gogh!

  • I've heard many versions of this song and ALL of them missed the mark except this one by Don. The next closest version would be the one by K.D Lang. It takes a special singer to cover a Roy Orbison song.

  • @fazbell Check out Glen Campbells cover... even better than this perhaps.

  • @fazbell This one nails it to the wall

  • I wish I knew how to post as a video response, but if you look up "Mulholland Drive"

you'll find a beautiful Spanish rendition of crying, called 'Llorando' by Rebekah Del Rio.

  • this was one of my most favorite songs when I was a teen. A beautiul rendendition

of pain of a broken teenagers heart,I can even name the boy I never forgot .

  • 7 folks were cryin' so hard, that they missed the like button. Billboard's #40 hit of '81. God bless! Hugs to ya, for postin' it!

  • extraordininaire cette version .

  • mr mclean looks a little like paul simon here

  • McClean is one of the most under-rated song writers and vocalist in modern music history. Its a shame that most people know nothing more about him than American Pie. Talent of his measure is hardly scene anymore.

  • McLean commented that he loved this song and wanted to sing it to see if he still had it vocally, well he certainly did have the voice.

  • Yes, one of the few remakes equal or better than the original. One of the best pop songs ever written by the amazing Roy Orbison, and Don absolutely nails it.

  • He has an understated, sincere style and makes it look effortless & easy. A beautiful version.

  • I read somewhere that Roy Orbison peferred this version to his own, and as it was No.1 in the charts here in England maybe it was better!

  • McLean does a brilliant job on this song; he has a very underrated voice. Not as good as Orbison, but then again, who is?

  • This video is good for me I like it,the singer is good in expretion, yes I like it

  • this is NOT better than the original

  • Just MAGIC !!!!

  • I have only recently rediscovered Don McLean. I love his voice. It has a gentle thoughtful quality to it. And he still sounds great.

  • Beautiful song. I need to check out Orbison's original since I've never heard it.

  • this is a good example when slow songs can also be powerfull

  • I just discovered this song and I've listened to it a thousand times. Such sensitivity...what a wonderful melody...and since I have my own reasons to cry tonight, I shall cry along...

  • Magical !! the best cover. Can't help thinking that Roy would have liked this cover...I prefer Don's by a mile...

  • Um clássico nunca morre! Belíssimo!

    Márcia - Portugal

  • an awesome share redbaron !!!

  • I prefer this version of this song .....a fantastic job.

  • Thanks Don! It gives me shills to this day.

Don is a legend and I hope he is in the Music Wall of Fame. Is he?

  • Roy Orb was a sweetheart. Don is great. But Roy sang it better. Than anybody.

  • i really wish he hadn't done the falsetto near the end.

  • @plivkee Yes, definitively, the best version of this beautiful song.

  • I disagree with Roy, his own version is still the original, best one.

  • @Wazzapsy-this was released in Australia in 1980, so presumably a tad earlier in US/Europe......great song ..

  • Bravo

  • CRYING by Don MClean. Dedicated to all broken-hearteds of CLASS 71...

  • What year was this?

  • @Wazzapsy 1981 :)

  • Even Roy Orbison himself said Don Mclean was better at singing this song. Praise indeed, and I'm inclined to agree.

  • Que triste estoy y esta canción prolonga mi agonía pero me encanta que mi tristeza sea acompañada con esta melodía.

  • best version of this song his voice is amazing xx

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Hermosa canción y gran voz. ... nostalgico!

  • Awesome cover, as good as kd lang's.

  • nice job

  • THIS IS ROY SONG DON IS NO BAD BUT THIS IS ROY O

  • wow..never heard him sing this before. Why are we listening to Roy? This is the one to listen to!! Excellent!

  • all a say is that music like this will allways stand the test of time

  • perfect

  • Don's version of "Crying" is so moving and so heart-breaking that you literally want to curl up in a ball, pull the covers over you and cry your eyes out.

The somber strumming of the guitar, the sadness in Don's voice and those strings in the background make this one of the greatest ballads ever, in my opinion.

    Roy must be proud.

RIP, man in the black shades.

  • Agreed. This is the best version and even better than Roy Orbison's. Every time I tell people Don Mclean is the shit, they get all "The 'American Pie' guy? Bah!" This is one of my all time favorite songs and personifies post-rough-breakup meetings with a former loved one better than anything.

  • Does he play this in the key of C.

  • @Bigturns33 Yes it's in C. Pretty straightforward with the most 'unusual' chord between the C with added G# to take it to the F (occurs first on the words 'hand so tight'). Then there's the ending chords unique to this version; starting on the final word 'you': C, B flat, G#, G, C (final C cut off this clip).

  • another one of the great voices!

  • Maravilhoso!!!

  • I bought this 45 as a kid at GC Murphy's when it came out back in the late 70's.

  • Beautiful.

  • this song is perfect when you are in love ...and far away..... and maybe you will not see your lover never more......

  • this was number one on the day i was born and ive never heard it before. i was hoping for some rock or metal, but this is a beautiful song regardless.

  • wonderful. I heard this music many times but in this ocasion is so special and today when I remember that person touch my hand so tight I would like to cry.....

  • He has the perfect voice for this song.

  • Oh now I can do this, I have found this oldie. I love it. Makes me want to cry though.

  • I just found out from the 2010 appearance of Don McLean on BBC2 that he composed this song and it was Roy Orbison who recorded it first

  • WONDERFULL!!!

  • man how i've gone through this.

  • still lovely after al this time

  • God Damn he had the most perfect pitch!!

  • Don is so great. That's talent, just a man,his voice and guitar and great entertainment. Watch my version of Roy's Only the lonely if you get a chance. love Dan Dell

  • Good version of the song, but still prefer Roy's over this one.

  • I remember hearing this song on Top of the Pops in England and fell in love with song till this day, absolutely romantic

  • Just so everyone knows: Don McLean wrote this song - not Orbison. THIS is the original. Check it out.

  • @netedt what are you smoking?

  • Just so everyone knows: Don McLean wrote this song - not Orbison. THIS is the original.

  • @netedt It definitely has the McLean feel to it

  • @netedt

Sorry to tell you but you're wrong. this song was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson and was released in 1961. So Roy's version is the original.

  • @RoyOrbisonFan2

You are correct. I must have misunderstood an intro to the song which McLean gave at a concert. He seemed to claim credit for the song?!

  • @netedt

I have never seen Don McClean in concert so don't know what he tells as intro when he performs this song, but I doubt he would be claiming credit for this song.

Maybe you just misunderstood what he said at the intro. Can easily happen I can imagine with all the noise going on at a concert.

  • wow, this song really relates to something that happened to me in real life.

    Great song!

  • I love Roy Orbison's music but Don Mclean does a better job on this one. Beautiful!

  • Hit #2 AC, #5 pop, #6 country in Billboard. God bless!

  • what kind of name is orbison?

  • wow...this is the best version, defintely better than the original.

  • Beautiful Indeed!! Don had a Way with a Song that brought INTIMACY with the Listener! Kinda like Carole King did ! Even Roy Orbison!

Some feel Johnny Cash had that and Glen Campbell too! John Denver and Peter and Gorden had that quality too.

But out of 1 Million Singers, maybe 50 have that!

  • @ivorybacon you betcha ! i loved it also...beautiful

  • He's brilliant!

  • Nothing more beautiful than a beautiful human voice in song...

  • beautiful song, better than the original. love the way his voice soars at the end.

  • this is the best version ever!

  • I would love to hear him sing this with out his condition. He has had severe Asthma since a child. I know, form experience, you can't take a deep enough breath to really use your natural voice. Although, it still is beautiful.

  • Yes, better than the original!

  • Yep Don ,

amazing how you wrote history with this song .

It is still used at the best party's ever .

    GHrtz ,

    Deejay Ci

    Belgium

  • this cover seems a bit sadder than Orbison's version, and suit the lyrics a bit better i think

  • Blessed are every man that cries and sings the love. Because is just one of them that I love.

  • the best cover of the song better than the original, roy's

  • Yes, I agree big time ...

  • @del2reb i totally agree with you

  • @del2reb Much better than the original, I must say.

  • Great.

  • one of my favourite singers with a song by another wonder if you could take a listen to a my cover of a song by roy just put in BOBVOCAL A LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL no I cant get anywhere near him but just love the song . anyway see what you think. a roy orbison fan

  • Holy s***! What a great cover! Definitely killing me softly with his words!

  • good upload man.Good quality,i like that.Grtz coen netherlands

  • I've heard so many try to sing this song, but no one does it any justice the way Don McLean does.

  • @Garmill64 I like K.D. Lang's.

  • @Garmill64 AMEN!! I saw Don Mclean in a free concert he gave to dedicate our amphitheater at our zoo. It was amazing and when he did this with just him nad the guitar...I cried my eyes out! Really beautiful!

  • You did a classic well, you go Don.

  • unswift I feel you brother, and I have to confront it every cristmass and new year because she is with a family friend. It's enoughf to make a man go crazy!

  • This is my FAVORITE cover of Roy Orbison's classic. Don McLean has such a wonderful voice. Love the use of strings in the background. THANKS so much for posting this! May ALL your wishes & dreams come true in the New Year!!! :)

  • Then heal. Live the death of love for a moment. and live the birth of new life and love.

  • imagine living 47 years to feel what this song means.....being replaced in a heartbeat, never in love with another women,as she goes on with her life like we never existed....and i sit here alone

  • That's severely unhealthy to look at it that way actually. That can put your body under a lot of distress and put yourself into a depression...

  • the need to re-motivate yourself may or may-not be within you yet, but at some stage it does, i wish you all the best unswift.

  • Masterpiece!!!!!!!

Don McLean is god of Music!!!

  • geração amor....1980....

  • The way the song builds is absolutely spectacular. I LOVE Larry Butler's dramatic production on this song and Don McLean's vocals are superb.

  • one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life

  • just so beautiful..

  • This is a magnificent cover of Crying, Don Really hitds that big note at the end, It is chilling.

  • Lovely!

  • Love how this song builds to a crescendo

  • Best version , loved this since I was a kid, gives me shivers

  • Was this 1981?

  • It was 1980.

  • היה לרגע נידמה לי לרגע שהעיניים שהשתקפו בשיר (17;1)דמו לעניים של עופרה חזה ז''ל

  • wow, this is a damn rare video, thank you so much for posting it..

  • Monique,

Another wonderful Version of this Song by Don McLean who really performs this so beautifully.

I just can't imagine anyone not enjoying & really liking this Song no matter who performs it.

Roy, KD and Don's are the best.

KD Lang sang as a "backup" singer for Roy Orbison on one of his live performances of this Song.

Roy and KD were extremely close and every time she sings this song you feel she singing it in memory of Roy who died of a Heart Attack in 1988.

    Robby *****Stars+

  • Thank you so much Monique.

Another wonderful Version of this sensitive and sad Song by Don.

I can't tell you how many times I played this Song during my High School years.

I had to stop playing it around my best Friend Robby (1RomanticSoul) because he just couldn't stop crying when I played it. He's such a gentle Angel.

The 3 Best Versions of this Song are Roy Orbison, KD Lang and Don's. All wonderful and all just a little bit different to make each unique on it's own.

    Hugs, Parker

  • mijn allereerste en grootste liefde ooit, heb mijn ogen uitgehuild. nooit meer gezien maar het blijft me altijd bij, ook na bijna 30 jaar

  • Try that again: 0:56 to 1:09

  • From :56 to 1:09 his voice leaves me speechless. Every time. Brilliant.

  • Groucho Marks could really tear this song up.

  • My favorite covers of this song are:

    1. k.d. lang

    2. rebekah del rio

I heard this version for the first time today, and I was like, ok, it's very nice and mellow, but nothing extraordinary... and then towards the end I was literally blown away by the purity of his falsetto. I give him the 3rd place.

  • Oooh, shitty taste alert.

His voice is much more controlled than K.D. lang.

  • Musical genius.

  • Just a musical instrument and a vocal wonder

  • Que linda canción y qué triste. Excelente versión.

  • good, muito bom, fabulosa, fantastica

    carlos - são paulo

  • I love Roy Orbison but Don did this one better.

  • so true so true great song by don

  • Great soul ! Roy Orbison had good reasons to be proud of Don

  • Such a great song, anyone can relate to this, there is a reason it was written!.

  • Awesome Song - and is he FIT or what!?

  • I haven't heard McLean's version of this song in many, many years. He did Roy Orbison proud.

  • I need to add, actually Don M is 5 years younger than I.

  • This was my song when I was young. Don M and I are the same age. It was like he put words in my heart. I was crying too. But six months later, we got back together, married. Celebrated our 50th anniversary this year!

We, neither one, wanted to cry any more.

    Never give up.

  • Who wrote this song, Roy Orbison, right? And wow! Don has an amazing voice!

  • oh my god!

It's sooooooooo beautiful yet deep meaningful song.

  • WHAT A SONG HIS VOICE SUITS IT SO WELL

  • ...and the touch of my mothers hand could stop me crying...

  • love his voice

  • From pain and tears,

    growth appears.

    What a great song.

  • This song happened to me last night..

  • It happens to me everyday.

  • cant help thinking of " only fools and horses" cwying

  • Once, I cried myself to sleep with this song.

    Amazing song.

  • Wonderful version!

Years later Dutch artist Gerard Joling covered it and fucked up the song if you ask me. But he got big in Holland ever since thanx to the song. This was in 1987(?) i believe.

  • I was all right for a while, I could smile for a while

But when I saw you last night, you held my hand so tight

When you stopped to say "Hello"

And though you wished me well, you couldn't tell

That I'd been cry-i-i-i-ng over you, cry-i-i-i-ng over you

Then you said "so long". left me standing all alone

Alone and crying, crying, crying cry-i-ing

It's hard to understand that the touch of your hand

    Can start me crying

  • I thought that I was over you but it's tru-ue, so true

I love you even more than I did before but darling what can I do-o-o-o

For you don't love me and I'll always be

Cry-i-i-i-ng over you, cry-i-i-i-ng over you

Yes, now you're gone and from this moment on

I'll be crying, crying, crying, cry-i-i-ing

    Yeah crying, crying, o-o-o-o-ver you

  • Sorry Roy , like this version better...beautiful ....

  • I love Mr Orbison's version as well but Don McLean's is the one I remember from my childhood and now it breaks my heart every time I hear it. Absolutely brilliant!
