Even amongst the several denominations of each religion, the differences are used to designate one group to be more righteous, more "chosen," more special to god than the others.
Thus, by default, all religions, and all denominations/variances/doctrines thereof are already contentious/warring.

Any belief system thinks that it is right belief system... else why would you hold it? Different religions don't even believe that "god" loves them more, because most of them don't even believe in the same deity or deities.
I have never committed violence against any of my Jewish, Muslim, atheist, agnostic, or otherwise heathen friends. We disagree, but that doesn't make us warmongers.

Most of our politicians are politically "Christian" but do not actually practice any particular faith. Germany is and was a traditionally Christian nation--he'd NEVER have come out and said he was anything but a Christian. It'd have been political suicide. i understand helen thomas sentiments, but i disagree with her. helen thomas is herself the daughter of immigrants. though she of lebanese descent, she is not from lebanon. she never lived there, never went to school there, never grew up there. it was just a place she would visit now and then. we cant tell people who have been outside of europe for so long to 'go home'. they made a new home and have no ties left to europe anymore, just as helen thomas herself does not speak arabic.
