  • :') lol i was there. is it just me or does it look really scary when they fall? I think It's cuz they're giant and they move lmao :L

  • Definately not the best video of this event!

  • if you want to see an even better video that gets even closer to the action check out The magnifficent seven by CRAZYHORSE1111

  • it was such a shock! huge bang and then an empty skyline..

  • it's hard to get the full feelof it if it's on TV or You Tube

  • it was so scary when this happened. It was the way that they lit the towers, you cant see it very good on the videos but if you were there in person it looked really spooky.

  • glad it took them 2 goes to bring them down!!

  • is that a beatles song, if it is then can some one please tell me which one....

    thanx madder than madness

  • Hi madderthanmadness the Beatles song is "A Day In The Life" it is the last track on the Sergeant Pepper album. Also available on the 1967-1970 (blue album) compilation.

  • why do they destroy them????????

  • They did it because they where unstable and could have collapsed onto the M1. Not a good scenario.

  • No its because they weren't being used anymore and there were plans for something else being built in its place

  • And my reason.

  • exxelent vid good 1 mate

  • ... i'll miss 'em

  • should neva have bn knocked down, a landmark gone, always remember going past them on the m1 damn shame

  • its a shock they have finally been knocked down. r.i.p tinsley towers

  • That is quite sad if you ask me. I live in sheffield and im convinced that they where the only reasons that anyone knew they where driving past us.

  • No cos i always look out for the Hillsborough football ground too (sorry if you are a Blades fan).

  • lol. I dont support either but if you are driving on the M1 you dont see Hillsborough.

  • So sad that they are gone i always looked out for them when me and my wife were driving through sheffield. I particularly liked the one with the diamond shaped holes around the top not seen cooling towers like that before or since. Well done LeonLockley great vid and nice use of the Beatles music. You got that final chord in exactly right place, top stuff.

  • it`s gone now :```` (, i called them salt and peeper when i was little

  • cool vid

  • I'm really upset that they've gone, I don't live in Sheffield but I go there every week, and you knew exactly where you were when you saw them, I went today, and I actually felt disorientated when I couldn't see them.

So now that these Towers have gone, just because they were stood there and they were 'too expensive to keep standing' don't you think the Londoners should demolish Battersea Power Station.... Or is that a 'Landmark of London's Industrial Heritage' ....hmmmm I wonder!!!

  • Im SOOOO glad theyre gone, horrible fuckin things.

  • you destroyed a landmark !!... I have Cancelled my acccounts with E-ON....

    Have you?

  • Does ANYONE actually read previous comments before commenting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were unstable. They were dangerous. They were pulled down for YOUR safety and for the safety of others!!!

  • That was a reply to you brenmeunderstand..

  • Well i'm sorry e.on but u destryoed a landmark therfore you just lost a customer.

Ps; I like how the camera just doesn't show the high piece still there after and pans round it ;)

  • This is the best footage of this scene I have seen!

  • They shud av left them ther, they werent exactly hurtin any1 wer they? They av pulled down a very historic landmark ov Sheffield. Shame on yooh E.ON xxx

  • xTomDizfitx and madbiker53 - As previous comments make clear, they could not leave them standing. The towers were becoming dangerously unstable and posed a great risk to everything built around them.

  • when i saw them i knew i was near meadowhall

    how will i know now!!!

    x]

  • i don't get why they knocked them down

    because it's cost them millions

why couldn't they have just left them there?

  • its kind of sad cos they av bin there my whole life and they were 87 years old. it was freaky watching it for real

  • i missed it when i drive past now it will be different

  • whoa.....i think we used to drive past them on our way to birtley......their was those two and then another six i think on the way up.....now those two have gone....why exactly did they get rid of them??

  • thay stoped being used about 30 years ago!

and thay sad they wher weak but thay wasent!

if you look 1 of them stoped falling then went down:(

  • yeah, i know they were. but they were always fun to go past, im not sure why...they just were.

  • structurally they were failing so they had to come down ;]

  • yeah, they had a good right to be..they were old...but couldnt they structurally stabilise them....cause i think the towers are a good reminder of the old days, i personnally would have saved them so that generations after us could see them.

  • they could av done but didnt history is goin down the pan and future generations wont see squat off any history wotsoever it saddens me

  • yeah...well, like most people here in OZ, they cant be arsed to do things cause it means working.....its upsetting that their deleting history like they are.....if they keep going the way they are theres going to be nothing but modern day crap for the future generations. it is sad.

  • thats just the way they want it and it aint just with the towers its with a lot of things

  • yeah, i know

  • innit

  • R.I.P Elephants Feet!

  • come and see mine:)

  • Well done mate i was there to see this Sad but very spectacular Moment like the use of the close ups i did not get back to Wakefield untill 4 on the dot

  • Thank you. It was sad. That's why I had to be there and get it documented. After the demolition I came home and didn't get to bed til 10am!! Me n a couple of friends had a farewell party for the towers!! That was when I thought it was a good idea to edit the vid even tho I was rather drunk at the time!!

  • WOW

I think you have really captured amazing footage of the towers colapsing.

Its a real shame that they had to go.

It was a landmark for sheffield.

Well dun for such an amazing video!

  • Thank you. They'll be a better one to come. It needs better timing and I have two more cameras to cut to!! It will also be graded better to match all the shots up. Watch this space!

  • It's a shame that some of the footage was darker than others and one part was slightly out of focus but on the whole a lovely effort. I wish I'd have been there but someone had got to get up with our kids and missus didn't get back until 4:50am !!! I'd never have got up at 7:00am otherwise !!!

  • What? lovely effort? patronising? Do better yourself? Yes?

  • I wasn't being patronising at all. I'm not saying I could have done better but merely saying that because it's a rough cut, not the proper version.

Unfortunately text messages do not allow any feelings as part of the message, whereby you think I'm being patronising and it was never intended to be so apologies to Leon if he thought I was.

  • It was a rough cut. Was rather drunk at the time!

There's variations between the Sony FX1/ Z1/JVCHD101/Canon XL1. The FX1 had only 12db of Gain dialed in. The others were pushed up to 18db! Also in terms of lens quality the XL1 is on the soft side anyway. Not as nice as the Sonys or the Fujinon Pro Lens on the JVC! Hence why the shot from the Kimberworth side looks softer in comparison. I still have 2 more shots to cut in when I do the proper version of the edit and of course it will be graded!!

  • that was just brilliant, wow

    top marks for that mate...

    just blinking brilliant.......

    thanx 4 posting

  • No worries. Thanks for the feedback.

    :o)

  • its a shame that our council allowed E.On to go ahead, but development needs to prevail... unfortunately

  • I will miss those two big fellas.

  • i think E.On have a secret chronic dust addiction, which they need to keep satisfied... but unfortunately, when an addiction as serious as that enters the public domain, poor structures take the fall.. it's just not fair! These towers were a shining example's of hardiness, they smoked all their life and still stood strong, then a no-good dust addict came along and snuffed out their life! sad.

  • Very good Sir!! Or was it the little green nose bleed people!!??

  • Well Leon, i think you managed to capture a local historic event better than anyone else, and this video (or the final edit) will be the first choice for use by historians, broadcasters, teachers and russian cosmonauts. well done matey..

  • Cheers Al, that's why I didn't get to rehearsal yesterday!!! Had 7 cameras on this job!! I decided I couldn't let this go undocumented so I thought I'd give it my all!!!

  • im uploading mine now and I saw you there:)lol

  • Oooo God :O

this is the best video of it yet!

    I was there lastnight ^_^

It was right sad to see them get blown up!

they were abit of an eyesore but they were something that made sheffield sheffield!

    RIP Tinsley Cooling Towers xx

  • no offence like but the towers were actually in rotherham.

  • On the Rotherham side of the viaduct on Sheffield Council land? Haha!! It dunt matter anyhoo. They were a part of our lives non the less, Sheffiedlers and Rotherhamers alike! As well as anyone who has ever been past there on the M1!! :o)

  • true. true.

  • Brill, can't wait for the sequel

  • Thank you!! Please do let others know about this clip. Will get the re-edit done asap!!

    Leon

  • Aye!! Watch this space! Wanted to edit it today but didn't get chance! Tomorrow's lookin hopeful. Thanks for the comment.
