@morpheus814 - Actually, they do in fact have songs that do not have overt gay content. I do find it interesting that no-one ever critiques/mocks straight bands - they write about heterosexuality all the time, and it's just wrong. ;)
okay....the stuffed animals have absolutely nothing to do with the song...AT ALL...but the cat with the electric guitar made me giggle like a twelve year old girl!!! Really starting to lurve this band!
You're kind of right about that. I was really excited to find out there was a somewhat successful gay rock band... But sometimes the vocalist and the music don't come together. This is one of their best and most polished songs. Aka - their best.
and i think punk can be a mainstream thing aswell.the clash were a huge band i nthe 70s and they played in arenas and made lots of money off it to.they got the title the only band that matters im pretty sure if u get that title ure a mainstream band.and the ramones were in movies and the ex pistols i think started in a fashion store.punk may not soposed to be mainstream but punk bands can go mainstream and hit the charts and still have the DIY aspect
yeah man totally agree.I mean just because a band wants to make it big doesnt mean theyr sellouts. If it wasnt for "sellout" bands 50% of the people wouldnt have even heard of punk rock.If a band gets big you should be happy for them.Sure they changed alot but who cares its theyr band anyway
I don't know if it's really possible for such an openly gay band to become popular. It's not like they're musicians who are gay, a lot of their songs are about being gay. With America the way it is, that takes out at least half the country as possible listeners.
And they're a punk band. Punk's not popular (anymore).
Green Day is mainstream and Gerard is openly bisexual. America's getting more tolerable towards gays, so even heterosexuals may enjoy this music just because it has a good beat. Plus, alot of genres aren't liked by the general population. Most people find death metal offensive, but there are still quite a few who enjoy the sound.
yeah this is the most ignorant bullshit i've ever heard right here... probably a bush-lovin republican cocksnot. punk's been here since 1969 and isn't going anywhere. it matters not that green day have had the longest 15 minutes of fame ever, or that blink 182 (who suck as much as you do) are reuniting.. but hell i guess then (false) punk will be popular (anymore). don't tak about music, man.
Hi thar. Actually I live in the bay area and saw them awhile ago at Gilman street. When's the last time a real punk band topped the charts? I love the music, but it just isn't popular within the mainstream for the most part. Think about, Blake (Jawbreaker) and Cometbus (Crimpshrine) start a band and how many people know about it?
In the words of Joe Queer ,paraphrasing of course, Punk isn't supposed to be played on a huge stage with thousands of people, a punk gig is supposed to be in a small sweaty bar.
So punks not supposed to be mainstream at all, infact other then their looks why are Blink 182 and Green Day even considered punk? Green Day's last two albums have both been rock opera's in the vain of The Who and Queen, so wouldn't they be pop rock infact why not just rename Pop Punk as Pop Rock cause its more justified
beleive it or not every band has underground days before they went mainstream.blink182 had 7 years of it and they were signed to indie labels and toured with the punk rock bands and they even became famouse cause of the punk bands they toured with.blink stuck with skate events, punk clubs and barbs they didnt go to arenas into like 99 when there first mainstream hit got out.thats why people call them punk cause they remember(like me)the years of the 90s when they were underground.
"cause they remember(like me)the years of the 90s when they were underground. "
Your page says you are 17, I doubt you have any remembrance of their early days. Blink-182's underground years, according to you, would have fallen between 1992-1998. You were just born in '92 and would have been 6 in '98.
people call greed day and blink 182 ( and anti-flag, and Bad Religion the horrific list goes on) punk because said bands fit the formula, which in itself is a pale imitation of the reality of punk. In short, punk has become part of the Spectacle, as theorized by the situationists. It's substance has been stripped away leaving only symbols and formulae for sound and behavior.
I agree, pop punk is an oxymoron, but instead of renaming it we should sweep it all away
@jussi69ismysexslave pansy division and green day were pretty much best friends (not in the gay way, pansy division are homo, not in the bad way, and billie and tre are bi), but yea, GD and pansy divison are realy good friends, they wouldnt call green day not punk
Who fucking cares? Punk is not about topping the charts it is (or at least it should be) about making someting with artistic integrity that people can relate to at a deep level. Fuck the charts.
Awesome! First: Great song. If Jon Ginoli was less of a man I'm sure he'd be a mainstream success. Second: Plush Manta Ray! Third: The guitar playing teddy that came in on the solo cracked me up.
Very underrated poprock band just because of their alternate lifestyle. Cool song but I'd prefer it w/o the brass instruments. I don't know if they did it because of the ska craze during the 90s but I prefer guitars only.
I love the bear's guitar solo \m/

Cop families: what's in; cute little play dates for boy puppies and kittens
with an adult tite ass ring of cops to protect them and then - viola -
perfect breeding of puppy dog boys and kitten boys by genetic splicing
and hybridization. Wow - delouse me now officer I am ready,,,,,,,,,!!

The funny part was that punk wasn't supposed to be popular. It was supposed to be music made by those who didn't fit the mold of the big industry.
interpolluter29 3 years ago 29
Popular means 'of the people', so good art should be supported by the people, and thus 'popular'. Industry has very little to do with the people.
