My family has a pomeranian and she is the best dog ever! I wanted to someday get another pomeranian but I think breeding dogs so small that they can hardly breathe and have problems with their knees is cruel. That is why I want to own a keeshond instead. They seem much healthier! :)

Brings tears to my eyes:( today i just found out the correct name for my keeshond i was calling him a husky my whole life but he isnt with us anymore he passed away a few years back:D they are really great with kids, i know this for a fact cause had my dog shaq since i was 4 all the way to age 16 i think. he even used to lick and console me when i was sad or sick. but hehe one thing about keeshonds is that they are powerful dogs hehe i remember being tackled by him when i was 7.

They're not bad dogs unless you just flat out smack, take their bone, or be completley mean to them.

Keeshonds are highly intelligent and yes, like Aura here , they really do smile.

As you can see from my Username I'm a fan, though sadly no longer an owner, of a wonderful breed of dog.

Sorry to hear that. Yes they do smile a lot. They are often referred to as the laughing dutchman. Most friendly dogs I have seen.

Hi,

There very good with kids!

But like every dog, you always have to watch if the kids are with the dog. They never can be alone with the dog.

And you must train the dog wel, and let the dog get used to everything! Thats the trick!

These are excellent family dogs... especially with children. (I did a bit of research before I got ours, because the similarity in build to chows made me leery.)

But they tend to be a bit too smart and loud. (I think ours was just too smart and loud, honestly - i love her, but sometimes i wish she would just shut the hell up and play with a stick like our boxer.)

@reicheruRSVP I just dont understand. I have a keeshond and i can give totally different advice. My keeshond can handle being around young children, stating the fact that the breed itself is very good with children. My keeshond "Buddy", is 10 years old, and still is very playful and cheery, like a 1 year old. I dont have to watch him at all. Actually, i have a german shepherd mix, and she gets jealous a lot over petting, so she growls and he runs xD There very loving, caring, and playful dogs.

We had one and he was fantastic. Everybody could play and cuddle with him.

Yes, they are smart but kind. And you can see in their eyes what they are thinking wich is great. I love these dogs!

The name is pronounced Kayz-hawnd. Their history is rather interesting. They almost became an non existent breed.
