What I love about Newman is, that he puts so much feeling in his music. Compare him with John Williams for example. I mean, Williams is also a genius. But his compositions are more pompous and overblown.

But Newman, his music really gets under the skin!

This score goes perfectly well with the "heartbreaking leaving scene". Brad Pitt is brilliant and so incredibly handsome. Thomas Newman is an outstanding composer. This movie is incredible and after watching it I just had to get the soundtrack because its marvelous and special. I could never get tired of listening to "Someone else" its my favorite one from this soundtrack.

im an action-kung fu-anime movie fan, i hate romantic dramas and rom coms! however i can watch meet joe black all day. its a great movie and even though its a so long i never get bored, even after watching it loads of times. the music i just perfect. gotta love brad pitt and anthony hopkins in this, they are brilliant together. im really not sure whats better, the movie or the soundtrack.

@305991523 There's a tiny, brief little melody that recurs throughout the film that is one of the most haunting, heartbreaking pieces of piano melody in movie history. You can hear it build at about 3:40 into the soundtrack on this page, and it actually starts at 3:45. It only lasts for 15 seconds. Leaves me breathless.

Thomas Newman's trademark to his movie scores / compositions always rely on the piano to set the mood & direction He wants the movie to flow. find his score here on youtube of the movie American Beauty. esp. the main theme and tract #8. you'll hear of what I speak. I have no words for such perfection.
