Awesome movie - a complete testorofest! Rambo IV zooms in on the blood where the previous movies zoomed out. I only wanted to see some serious ass-kicking and believe me we got some great moments from Sly, but we also got a cool sniper guy and a plot that actually raised some interesting themes (such as the morality of killing and raising awareness of issues in Burma).
Well done Sly, you got everything right. Made me want to go play BF2/CoD4/CS afterwards.
Great movie. When I first heard about a new Rambo movie, I thought it would suck. Stallone proved me wrong. Very violent. Excellent action scenes. The Burmese soldiers are so evil and brutal, you feel great when Rambo grinds them into chop meat. I also thought the British SAS guy was a dick at first, but he turned out to be one tough mutherfucker. Great job Sly!!!!!!!!!!
Having now seen this movie, all I can say is that is that it was fucking awesome!!!! To those who think that Rambo and Julie Benz's character is 'gay ass emotional shit', let me remind you that Rambo had a Vietnamese girl who was a love interest in Rambo II and that didn't take away from the action. Besides, if you saw Julie Benz as Darla in BTVS and ATS, you know that she can hold her own in an action scene.

Stallone looks better with long hair. Not bad given its 25 years since Rambo first blood. He looks the part still. More so than even Clint Eastwood did from the 1st to last Dirty Harry as Clint really seemed to be struggling - action wise- by the last Dirty Harry.

Back to the movie. Badass action scenes aside, it looks like a pretty basic, lone hero type of film with a basic plot and a predicable script. Nowadays action movies have to include humor and young people in order to appeal to women and teen-agers. This movies appears to have none of that, and that is REFRESHING! With that logic you could compare it to a movie like 300, which was awesome. 300 gets moving and focuses on the battle without extraneous crap to distract you and I'm guessing that Rambo 4 will be along the same lines. By those standards as well the fact that it will have some pretty gnarly fighting in it does steer it away from the generic action films released in the last few years.
Look at Transformers, great idea, really great actions scenes at the beginning not knowing what was up yet. Then it turned into a cheesy family type of movie with the love interest, the drawn out interaction with the parents, the dumbed down jokes, etc, etc

Yes, "300" did not hold anything back when it came to brutality and blood; however, even it had something to appeal to today's youth, and that is CGI special effects. Today's youth - particularly the so-called "fanboys" - get their dicks hard when it comes to CGI. But this Rambo movie seems to be relying on "old-fashioned" techniques to pull off the insane violence. Just one more reason I'm looking forward to it.

Awesome fun! Can't wait to see it...and, yes, Burman (Myanmmar) is one of the world's ten worst dictatorships. Sadly, most of the political critics of this film don't even vote in any u.s. election...so their opinions aren't worth a whit to anyone. Sorry, that's political reality. More reality -- Only about a third of the populace are engaged in any political realm, and even make a difference. For the Rambo fans, can't wait! For the critics, don't see the movie!

Stallone looks better with long hair. Not bad given its 25 years since Rambo first blood. He looks the part still. More so than even Clint Eastwood did from the 1st to last Dirty Harry as Clint really seemed to be struggling - action wise- by the last Dirty Harry.

In fact, I completely agree with you that this movie is a standard hero punishing the bad guys type movie, full of action and death, and if that's what your after it's great movie in that respect. Back to the movie. Badass action scenes aside, it looks like a pretty basic, lone hero type of film with a basic plot and a predicable script. Fair enough, though you have to admit that this type of movie is actually going against the grain, whch is why so many of us are so excited to see it. Nowadays action movies have to include humor and young people in order to appeal to women and teen-agers. This movies appears to have none of that, and that is REFRESHING! In that regard, it is anything but standard.

Hmmmm...I must agree with you on your argument. With that logic you could compare it to a movie like 300, which was awesome. 300 gets moving and focuses on the battle without extraneous crap to distract you and I'm guessing that Rambo 4 will be along the same lines. By those standards as well the fact that it will have some pretty gnarly fighting in it does steer it away from the generic action films released in the last few years.

Look at Transformers, great idea, really great actions scenes at the beginning not knowing what was up yet. Then it turned into a cheesy family type of movie with the love interest, the drawn out interaction with the parents, the dumbed down jokes, etc, etc

Yes, "300" did not hold anything back when it came to brutality and blood; however, even it had something to appeal to today's youth, and that is CGI special effects. Today's youth - particularly the so-called "fanboys" - get their dicks hard when it comes to CGI. But this Rambo movie seems to be relying on "old-fashioned" techniques to pull off the insane violence. Just one more reason I'm looking forward to it.
To hell with the women, teenagers, and fanboys. This movie is for ME!

Hey DOC....its a frickin MOVIE. I love all types...but frankly I am getting sick and tired of those movies (and people) that only feel that a movie only deserves to get good ratings and lots of viewers...is if hits on some emotional level, or has some great, convoluted "inner meaning".. (or think that they do). Movies like that seem to be popping out all the time.
Relax a little and enjoy some good action flicks

Meh, it's just got some philosophy to it in some way, you know? The concept of only being able to "fight force with force" and one of his lines there: "When you're pushed, killing's easy as breathing." The movie's veiws are topical in that they talk about reasons for fighting wars as opposed to pacificim and "burying your head in the sand" from the problems around you.

I mean obviously if things could be settled peacefully in the real world as in the movies, that's the road to take...but, I don't think you or anyone else would shell out $10+ to watch Rambo negotiate. Besides, the world is full of people who all they know is how to act violently and unfortunately a lot of the time that's the only thing they respond to.
