Don't know why everyone is hating on Toskala......
He was good until the leafs signed him, the leafs have a habit of taking good players, and then they don't do so well. See: Toskala, Belfour, Giguere, Phaneuf, Kessel, want me to continue?
@McSmittens I love how people are full of themselves enough to make a judgement that could span the next 20 years. I guess you're never heard of Pat Lafontaine, Daniel Brier, Ron Francis, or Martin St. Louis. I'll make a prediction that is definitely going to come true ... Kadri will do way more in his NHL career than you will.

I'm a Leafs fan but Nazem Kadri sucks ass. 18 games played this season, 6 assists and no goals. How can Leafs fans still think that this guy will save the Leafs, he'll be a 60 point player at best, what a waste of a draft pick what was Burke thinking?
@SonnyA89 Your a fucking idiot and your not fooling anybody. He has 25 points in 25 games in the AHL this season and if you actually watched him play instead of stat lurking then you would see his potential and great offensive ability. Did you remember Stamkos's rookie season where he got like 40 points? And then now is a leading scorer after he worked on his game and improved his strength? I am not saying Kadri will be a Stamkos but he will be a 1st line center if he works on his strength.
@SonnyA89 and how is 60 points a bad thing? im not a leafs fan but this guy has won some games for the leafs in shootouts. he may not be as good as a player like stamkos or crosby but ill put my money on that he will always be the best at shootouts.

Kadri is amazing.... and if people think we shouldnt of traded Kessel for picks should think again.... Kessel has already shown hes a 30+ goal scorer and at a young age its going to be consistent..... who knows Seguin could be a bust... look at Jamie Lundmark he was a 7th overall pick and he didnt live up to what they wanted... Datsyuk and Zetterberg were drafter in the 6th and 7th round and they will be in the Hockey Hall of Fame....
Hopefully the leafs can ditch Kaberle and Van Ryan and pick up some decent offensive players. Everything else looks great... plus Seguin would love to someday play for his childhood team o_0 they may have lost the pick but that doesn't mean he's a bruin for life.
Ok. Kadri in his prime will be a 80-90 pt getter, kessel is only 22 and already a top sniper, hes up for a 40 + goal season when kadri is good enough to center him, and bozak is a potential 50-70 pt getter, and yes the kessel trade was retarded, but if you were burke and wilson, what would you choose, let the team stay shitty 4 more years and lose your job after 1 year, or secure your job by a quick rebuild, im pretty sure a normal person wouldnt want to get fired, nvm a gm.
no bud u dont get it do u. dont even respond cause u wont win this arguement ive been watching the leafs since i was 5 and im 16 now. Kadri will be a 90 or over point scorer according to moist of the NHL anylysists out there. he has fantastic plamaking skills and is a good scorer as well. Bozak maybe 80 points. Stalberg maybe 60. Bozak is a real good setup man and can score as well. Like the Mats sundin type except not as big
@golfviewme Oh yeah? Tell me which analysists said that, i would really like to know. Kadri will not become a 90+ point scorer, and i am willing to put money on that. Bozak a 80 point scorer?!? Your talking out of your ass bro, and if your not, you will be gravely dissapointed about kadri and the rest of your superstar prospects
man kadri will defff be a 30 goal scorer he has 77 points in the ohl in 47 games, plus hes only like 10 points back of taylor hall and seguin but they have play about 6 games more than kadri, so u can easily compare him to taylor hall if not more seasoned now and better
oh ok, so by that logic, eberle will become a 50 goal scorer/100 point player with his performance in dub, and ryan ellis will become a 60 point defender right? Please do not compare Kadri to Hall or Seguin, that is just making you look dumb.
man ur a fuckin retard if he had played 6 more games(hes a 2 point a game player) thats 12 points which would make him one under seguin, and im not comparing eberle to anyone, this is the ohl not some 10 game bullshit, hes gunna be a star ur a retard dont talk if u know nothing, im from canada bitch we made this sport u think i dont follow every leaf/marlie or watch there games or watch the london knight games on center ice
@SwedishSpeedstarMPS 93 points in 56 regular season games and 18 points in 7 playoff games so far. So tell me this...... who is a good player? You cant say he isnt an elite player. And for you to dismiss him so early with numbers like that makes you a fool.
Hes a bit to small at 170 pds, can use more confidence and we wanted him to play in the world juniors... Very smart move to put him where he is now!
this kid is going to be a bright spot in our organization for a LONG time...
Bozak, Kessel, Kadri, Stalberg, Hanson... the list goes on and on... Hopefully in the next couple of years we will see all of these players playing for the leafs, accommodated with current players...
Here is my only problem with the leafs fans. Lets face it, you signed a bunch of college players, Good college players but not great. None of the players you mentioned except for kadri deserve to be in the same sentence as Kessel. Bozak and Stalberg would be lucky to crack the lineup as second liners, and even then I bet they'll only be 35-50 point getters. Kadri will be good though, maybe not a high, high end NHL talent, but still probably a 65-80 point man when he gets into his prime.
Bozak is comparable to a first round draft pick (or so Burke and the leafs think)
My point was simply that we have a crop of young talent coming up from our farm team and from previous drafts...
we have will have 3 lines of 35-60 point getters instead of having a 1 2 punch like Crosby Malkin, Ovechkin Semin, getting 80+ points each... Hoping we can take on the league
This is how TO has to win because we finish 20-25 thus not getting cream of the crop in draft picks; that was my point
The only time I've seen Stalberg in the highlights is when he's getting decked. I'm saying the prospects are bad, I'm just saying don't expect to much from them.
Nobody's expecting that much from them.. 6th round picks and players who weren't even drafted aren't given very big shoes to fill. And Stalberg = leading scorer in the preseason when he actually got playing time
The leafs problem right now is that they dont have that star presence. Depth only gets you so far. You need a line that can take controle. The leafs need to sight a BIG TIME centre. I dont know what they will have to work with for cap space but they just freed. So hopefully they have room for a couple STAR players because what they need right now is quality and not quantity. They have a good foundation but no House.
hate to disagree but they need a goalie who can steal games. Giguere is good but hes old The monster is good but hes not ready they need a goalie who stands out and until they have that there not going anywhere
@Nriney123456 I bet you a million bucks they trade kaberle and someone we dont want to see traded for a centre or a winger somewhere near star status or at least above 60 points a year. Kadri will be on that first line. but it could be as a winger. All i know is burk has confidence in his goaltending and his defence. He wants a top line player. Dont be surprised to see a deal something like the phaneuf deal for a forward. Were going to see the trade and go WHAT no way hmmm maybe he paid too much
Yea you're mostly right, I mean as of right now (with komisarek coming back from injury) the leafs have one of the most solid defensive corps in the NHL. My guess is that Burke will deal a few players out and my guess is Burke will only keep Schenn, Phaneuf, Beachemin, Komisarek,Gunnarsson and Exelby. The rest will need to be traded for a deflated offense. I mean THREE first two round draft picks for KESSEL? Like he's good but not that good.
@netgames2000 yeah i know, the only reason why the leafs dropped kadri was because hes to young and he isnt strong enough, they want him to get better in the OHL with the knights, hes gotta get bigger. like if he goes into the corner with somebody hes probably gonna get knocked out.
Yea it would have benifited the team but i think its better for him to win and DOMINATE in the ohl this season so he can join the team on a high. During the off season burke will add a couple big name players. Basically they need to sign a star centre and winger to play with kessel. And then that makes the rest of the lineup stronger because what the leafs have right now is basically 2 second lines a good third and a forth.
he can still be called up. he has a contract with toronto. Steve Mason had a contract with Columbus while still playing with the Kitchener Rangers and he was called up numerous times during his last season in junior.
Once a player is sent back to juniors they can't be called back up unless there teams season is done, or unless it is an emergency and they just need to fill in for a game. That is what happened to Mason. There was an emergency so they called him up but he never ended up playing.
considering the SIGNED gustavsson AND bozak, two guys projected to be top 10 1st rounders, and kessel is only 21. you're a complete retard. understand business before making such an ignorant comment.
let me educate you. they trade 3 picks. 2 round (which will most likely be nothing) and 2 first rounds.
the leafs will finish higher this year, and higher next year, hence their first round pick wont be one of the top. none the less, 2 middle pack first rounders for a 21 year old budding super star. Thank you Burke!
maybe...maybe not... I think some people forget that kessel was rated as 1st overall for a long time in his draft year, and dropped(after WJC) probably due to questions of his work ethic and dedication. One thing is for sure though taylor and tyler are gonna be very good players in the NHL... Regardless it's irrelevant because they won't be going to boston, unless they trade up from the 13-17th position.
Toronto says thank you too, Kessel missed a month and he still has more goals than anyone on Boston without Savard which all you Boston fans claimed was the only reason he scored 36.
I'm just saying that Toronto will not win the Stanley Cup ever again no matter what. Coach or the GM never tries to protect the players from the media. Someone gets bashed there, it's everyones opinion.
You know, Toskala was actually an OK goalie before he went to Toronto. Then they bash him and bring out the "Monster" so that if he doesn't play perfect he will get yanked. And now Gustavsson is a messiah, but as soon as he makes few mistakes, he is the scapegoat.
you are fucking stupid saying how they will never win the cup again, we have so many young great players that we can build around and you wait 3 or 4 years and i guarantee a cup win
You dont see it happening because nobody can see what happens next, not to mention it hasn't happened in a long time. As long as this world spins, the leafs still have a shot just like everybody else, end of story. IMO they will snag one within the next 15 years.
Im a sens fan n im happy to see that the leafs actually have a chance to make the postseason, we need more Canadian teams in the playoffs. and the leafs are always fun to watch. specially with these new players like Kadri, Gustuvson, etc.
Honestly, he is good enough to make the leafs as a third line player for sure, but whats the point? Have him go back to junior for one more year, make the national team and score 100 points in the OHL.
I have been a longer suffering leafs fan. I have no problem waiting another year.
dirty shootout goal and great hands on the tying goal. Finally, the future is looking bright in Toronto. Keep Kadri for the first 9 games and see how he does.
This kid is great... everything about him, but, the only thing is, is he is only 5"11 and only 167 lbs.... That could affect him during season if he gets rocked.
I was ecstatic when Kadri was drafted. Kid has a great attitude, nice hands, good speed and a ton of confidence that he's exuding at 18, imagine 2 years from now.
When he gets some seasoning and fills out a bit, watch out. Could be a real star in the making.
im actually really really looking forward to see how the leafs fare this year... im actually literally thinkn we at least get 2 second round of playoffs... i maybe giving them too much credit, but i really like wht im seeing... this is like the ducks back when they won the cup.
The season hasn't even started yet. The preseason means absolutely nothing.
For example, the Detroit Lions went 4-0 during the preseason in 2008. They then went 0-16 during the regular season. I'm not saying the Leafs are going to suck, but you might want to wait before you compare them to a Stanley Cup winning team
true, but take into account that over the past 10 years in the NHL (football is very different), nhl teams have finished within 3 places of their preseason finish.
the leafs won't play .800 hockey, OBVIOUSLY, but they have a legit shot landing anywhere between 6-8 in the east
I definitely think the Leafs can make the Playoffs. I just don't think they'll get past the first round quite yet (of course, as the Canes proved last year, anything can happen). Also, the Ducks were one hell of a team when they won the Cup, and I really don't see how the Leafs compare to them at all.
they definitely aren't cup ready, maybe not even run ready. they just have a team that can finally compete. the ducks were a far better team than the leafs now, but give these rookies a couple of years (including kessel). i think the only thing that would give the leafs a legit cup run this soon would be MONSTER play by the monster, or toskala.
Don't know why everyone is hating on Toskala......
He was good until the leafs signed him, the leafs have a habit of taking good players, and then they don't do so well. See: Toskala, Belfour, Giguere, Phaneuf, Kessel, want me to continue?

@fready69
Like he's good but not that good.
discodarth 1 year ago
@discodarth dont need a 1st round pick to get a good player

Yup look at Joe Pavelski for SJ, third round pick baby

Kadri is going to be a #1 centre trust me, right now he's ranked as the 2nd best player in the OHL behind Hall
Fifa09Wii 1 year ago
well said.....way more likely.
zeppelinnut 1 year ago
They should have kept nazem
netgames2000 2 years ago
@netgames2000 yeah i know, the only reason why the leafs dropped kadri was because hes to young and he isnt strong enough, they want him to get better in the OHL with the knights, hes gotta get bigger. like if he goes into the corner with somebody hes probably gonna get knocked out.
hockey8285 2 years ago
Yea it would have benifited the team but i think its better for him to win and DOMINATE in the ohl this season so he can join the team on a high. During the off season burke will add a couple big name players. Basically they need to sign a star centre and winger to play with kessel. And then that makes the rest of the lineup stronger because what the leafs have right now is basically 2 second lines a good third and a forth.
fready69 1 year ago
of course the leafs are gonna win the cup dimwit
kessel will have40+
MarianaaSantosss 2 years ago
why haven't they called him back up yet? seriously... the leafs have only won one game so far... DO SOMETHING BURKE.
matt452 2 years ago
He can't be called back up. He was sent to junior not to the minors.
123123x123123 2 years ago
he can still be called up. he has a contract with toronto. Steve Mason had a contract with Columbus while still playing with the Kitchener Rangers and he was called up numerous times during his last season in junior.
matt452 2 years ago
Once a player is sent back to juniors they can't be called back up unless there teams season is done, or unless it is an emergency and they just need to fill in for a game. That is what happened to Mason. There was an emergency so they called him up but he never ended up playing.
123123x123123 2 years ago
well regardless of that, do you not think that the leafs current record is an emergency?
matt452 2 years ago
I'll give you that. Kessel is playing tonight and i know he won't solve all our problems but atleast now we have a top sniper for Kaberle to pass to.
123123x123123 2 years ago
hes in the OHL not the AHL, it takes a lot of contract work and a lot of money to bring him up right now.

that's a smart observation.
considering the SIGNED gustavsson AND bozak, two guys projected to be top 10 1st rounders, and kessel is only 21. you're a complete retard. understand business before making such an ignorant comment.

kessel trade was a complete rip off!
boston is gna get like the 15th pick twice..maybe higher den 15..gj burke
xskillerx323 2 years ago 2
let me educate you. they trade 3 picks. 2 round (which will most likely be nothing) and 2 first rounds.
the leafs will finish higher this year, and higher next year, hence their first round pick wont be one of the top. none the less, 2 middle pack first rounders for a 21 year old budding super star. Thank you Burke!
stefy71 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Leafs will keep sucking, hence their first round picks will be on the top. Boston says thank you.
Rehtomflow 2 years ago
Pretty sure Phil Kessel is and will be better then taylor or tyler. But even then the leafs are gonna trade back for some picks with kaberle.
Flawless0straint 2 years ago
lol Kaberle has a no traide clause
Calvin7 2 years ago
Doesnt mean he cant be traded? Its just his choice if he wants to or not right now.
Flawless0straint 2 years ago
burke said he won't ask a player to waive their trade clause.
Calvin7 2 years ago
maybe...maybe not... I think some people forget that kessel was rated as 1st overall for a long time in his draft year, and dropped(after WJC) probably due to questions of his work ethic and dedication. One thing is for sure though taylor and tyler are gonna be very good players in the NHL... Regardless it's irrelevant because they won't be going to boston, unless they trade up from the 13-17th position.
jaggedsymmetry 2 years ago
Toronto says thank you too, Kessel missed a month and he still has more goals than anyone on Boston without Savard which all you Boston fans claimed was the only reason he scored 36.
Fifa09Wii 2 years ago 2
First of all, I'm not a Boston fan. Second of all, it doesn't matter if Kessel scores 50 goals if the team keeps sucking.
Rehtomflow 2 years ago
ironnically, kessel has been a big part of why the leafs team have not been sucking lately... their above .500 with kessel in the lineup.
jaggedsymmetry 2 years ago
You're a retard. Kessel is a player we can build around. Only a tool would try to that into a negative.
sukkkmyballs 2 years ago
I'm just saying that Toronto will not win the Stanley Cup ever again no matter what. Coach or the GM never tries to protect the players from the media. Someone gets bashed there, it's everyones opinion.
You know, Toskala was actually an OK goalie before he went to Toronto. Then they bash him and bring out the "Monster" so that if he doesn't play perfect he will get yanked. And now Gustavsson is a messiah, but as soon as he makes few mistakes, he is the scapegoat.
Rehtomflow 2 years ago
you are fucking stupid saying how they will never win the cup again, we have so many young great players that we can build around and you wait 3 or 4 years and i guarantee a cup win
wardzig1993 2 years ago
Ok, enough trolling from me but seriously, I don't see that happening.
Rehtomflow 2 years ago
You dont see it happening because nobody can see what happens next, not to mention it hasn't happened in a long time. As long as this world spins, the leafs still have a shot just like everybody else, end of story. IMO they will snag one within the next 15 years.
mawfuckah93 2 years ago
kessel is better than hall or seguin period. 2nd rounder doesn matter.

Im a sens fan n im happy to see that the leafs actually have a chance to make the postseason, we need more Canadian teams in the playoffs. and the leafs are always fun to watch. specially with these new players like Kadri, Gustuvson, etc.
bakwall 2 years ago
leafs are gonna make the playoffs this year!!
SHIFT112233 2 years ago 2
Honestly, he is good enough to make the leafs as a third line player for sure, but whats the point? Have him go back to junior for one more year, make the national team and score 100 points in the OHL.
I have been a longer suffering leafs fan. I have no problem waiting another year.
CanadaMMA 2 years ago
He's certainly making his case to stick with the team. Hope he gets his chance.

dirty shootout goal and great hands on the tying goal. Finally, the future is looking bright in Toronto. Keep Kadri for the first 9 games and see how he does.

This kid is great... everything about him, but, the only thing is, is he is only 5"11 and only 167 lbs.... That could affect him during season if he gets rocked.

mawfuckah93 2 years ago 4
I was ecstatic when Kadri was drafted. Kid has a great attitude, nice hands, good speed and a ton of confidence that he's exuding at 18, imagine 2 years from now.
When he gets some seasoning and fills out a bit, watch out. Could be a real star in the making.

im actually really really looking forward to see how the leafs fare this year... im actually literally thinkn we at least get 2 second round of playoffs... i maybe giving them too much credit, but i really like wht im seeing... this is like the ducks back when they won the cup.
Menigitis 2 years ago
The season hasn't even started yet. The preseason means absolutely nothing.
For example, the Detroit Lions went 4-0 during the preseason in 2008. They then went 0-16 during the regular season. I'm not saying the Leafs are going to suck, but you might want to wait before you compare them to a Stanley Cup winning team
HockeyPwnsBaseball 2 years ago
true, but take into account that over the past 10 years in the NHL (football is very different), nhl teams have finished within 3 places of their preseason finish.
the leafs won't play .800 hockey, OBVIOUSLY, but they have a legit shot landing anywhere between 6-8 in the east
IbeJigsaw 2 years ago
I definitely think the Leafs can make the Playoffs. I just don't think they'll get past the first round quite yet (of course, as the Canes proved last year, anything can happen). Also, the Ducks were one hell of a team when they won the Cup, and I really don't see how the Leafs compare to them at all.
HockeyPwnsBaseball 2 years ago
they definitely aren't cup ready, maybe not even run ready. they just have a team that can finally compete. the ducks were a far better team than the leafs now, but give these rookies a couple of years (including kessel). i think the only thing that would give the leafs a legit cup run this soon would be MONSTER play by the monster, or toskala.
IbeJigsaw 2 years ago 6
All NHL teams? Do you have an article or something? Research?
hockeyislife0193 2 years ago
no article, it's easy to look up... i believe all aside from the thrashers and canadiens (in their fluke year that was 2007-08)
