Laura Nyro is probably my favorite vocalist. I loved her and continue to love her sweet music. Thank you for uploading this video with a BLACK screen, it was hauntingly empty and so beautiful. Laura is gone, but she is still just as much with us in spirit. God, do we miss her. ~GTW
To the person who thinks Burt Bachrach loved what laura did, I never got that feeling when he would condescend to mention her by name. He really made me mad, she was /is still so towering in her effect on music of today. Dionne however does some great covers on youtube of Laura's stuff. she does it w/ the girls from the 5th D.
She poured so much of her soul into the songs she wrote, she left us too early. If you think about it, so many of her pieces were used by other more known stars to make hits...Dionne, Barbara, Thre Dog Night, 5th Dimension, etc. She never truly got the recognition she so richly deserved. So many songs i grew up with...I never knew Laura had written and recorded them first, but now as i rediscover them thanks to YouTube, I realize what a gifted and spiritually rich talent she truly was.
I first heard Laura Nyro on the Rock Machine album of the 60s. Then I re-discovered her in the 1980s when I bought an album compilation in Belgium. What a find! I've now bought all her albums and love them all, especially how she developed from album to album. So sad she's no longer with us. But not forgotten.
It really bothers me that she has not received the recognition so many of her peers did. Maybe if she had spent time in southern California. Any way, I can't think of a better singer songwriter, period.
There are at least three Laura Nyro arrangements of this tune on You Tube...Love
how through the years she reinterpreted tunes to her current thought, both her own and covers...The PAIN of this tune always comes through in her arrangements...Laura, love you forever...
