  • Turn the bass control down, the presence up and plug into the number two input. I also suggest changing the preamp tubes to: V1 use a 5751 - V2 use a 12DW7 and in V3 - the inverter tube - use a Sovtek 12AX7LPS - trust me - this preamp tube change will change the way that Deluxe sounds.

  • The HRD has a slightly different tonestack, thats why it sounds boomy. If you clip two lugs on one of the pots together, you get a blackface tonestack and get much closer to the DR sound. One clip darkens the reverb a bit too, which I liked, its also closer to blackface that way.

  • Where's the "vs"? Looks like you're playing both amps at the same time.

Also, try using the second input on the HRD. You loose gain but a lot of that boominess goes away.

  • You have 2 amps. Why not 2 guitars?

  • @journeyquest1 I do have quite a few more guitars than amplifiers.

  • @ynx I thought you were complaining about single coils? Break out the burstbuckers.

  • @journeyquest1 Not a bad idea. Too bad the ebony fretboard kind is very expensive.

  • @ynx Im building a strat w/ebony fretboard and HSS pickups. I got the neck for $120. It is a Fender licensed neck from Mighty Mite.

  • settings????! just got this amp today, yours sounds beautiful

  • Lol! chucka chucka chucka!

  • Amps are fine..playing needs work.

  • so how do we tell which amp is making noise, professor???

  • I've had both for several years and used them both a LOT in live situations. In my opinion, there is NO comparison between the two. The DRRI absolutely smokes the HRD. The dirty channel on the HRD is tinny, harsh, muddy and unusable. The DRRI doesn't have an overdrive channel, but breaks up beautifully at higher levels and sounds amazing with dirt pedals. Pushing my DRRI with a Barber Direct Drive yields a gorgeous overdrive and is complimented every time I play live.

  • @ricotinez I agree completely, plus if I recall the DRRI is considerably lighter. I would never use the lead channel on the Fender myself. Only amp Fender got the channel switching right to my ears was the deluxe VM or the Pro Reverb.

  • I have the HRDxIII, and have always wanted a DR. Now I'm not so sure. I agree it would be nice to know which amp you are using while you are playing. Regardless, nice tones.

  • When are you using either amp? Someone who never played either amp can't tell...

  • I love both amps- gigged with both. The HRD takes pedals a lot better and both amps have different voicing. The DRRI is great for those classic Fender tones we love, but the HRD mk3 is a little more "modern" and fatter -a bit more versatile, You can't go wrong with either amp.. Fender's best.

  • I have to be today honest, I think they sound very similar, I sold my HRDx today because I was not keen on it, and I don;t think the dr is much better, maybe it is ?

  • @UKToneKing I think it is, keep in mind that this video is recorded with a cellphone camera ;)

  • @ynx I am in the middle of buying a new amp, I have to be honest I pulled my old peavey solid state out the cubard till I get a new one, and I kind of like what I am hearing lol its worth £100, were as my HRDx was £799, but this solid state sounds pretty dam nice, I thought for a wile it was as good as the HRDx, but I am sure its just my ears playing tricks, I dam hope so, I am tempted to go solid state again thou, as U get more for your money, and less upkeep like tubes ect

  • @UKToneKing I could get a top of the range solid state for the price of a deluxe reverb, tempting, and they sound pretty dam close to tube with today's modern age stuff

  • @UKToneKing Same thing happens when i play other people's amps. Then when I come home though, that becomes a whole different story when i realize what is really going on. It is only after coming back full circle that you hear the difference in not only tone, but feel and touch responsiveness.

  • @ynx I know that pain only to well, My mate has a HRDx & when I hear it I think that is for me, then I get home & think this is not for me lol I sold my HRDx, but now I hear one & wonder if I made the right choice lol The silverface bassman was an amp though, I bought it off my mate and it was the best sounding amp I have owned, I only sold as I am not gigging now, so for the garage it was not getting above 3, wish I could have cranked it as I really really loved that amp, it sounded amazing

  • @UKToneKing

Peavey makes/made some good sounding solid state amps.

  • @lkb3rd I ended up buying a silverface vibrochamp & it sounds really nice, it has the classic old fender cleans and brakes up perfectly at home volumes, I really miss my bassman, but it was just to loud really, I am going to get either a sf pr or dr soon as well, think I will get the PR as it has a nicer trem that turn the power tubes on and off, & one channel is enough, as the DRs 1st channel is just like the 2nd really without verb & trem, think the PR is the best choice for home too, 15w nice

  • @UKToneKing You'll hear the difference once the DR is cranked up.

  • Great video, thanks. Would be nice with text about which amp is in use when at which point.

  • @joravist You are right, but as weird as it seems, IIRC, I don't really use the Hot Rod in this video so much.

  • Deluxe reverb win hands up.(much more clearer and warm)
