  • why is there always someone, in this case 7 idiots that have to hit the dislike button, are you kidding me or what, anyway I think this is classic

  • to bad the everlys never did this with the beatles, that would have been the greatest thing ever

  • awsum

  • Hello, All. This is just plain FUN. Thanks for posting. Peace.

  • This is the first time I've seen this. It is great. Gerry Marsden with Don and Phil going "at it" ... LOL. What a performance. And, it was live with Phil getting smacked in the nose by Gerry's guitar ... and was bleeding! LOL ... good video.

  • @WallyPost me too

  • this is just great!

  • The smack to the nose is known as a "Liverpool Kiss".

  • @ootoWebRay also a glasgow kiss

  • This is such a priceless piece of video and history. ( Phil and Don will forever be number one.) And, my nose hurts every time I watch this! They all were having a great time even though Don must have been seeing stars! Thank you for this.

  • sensacional!!!!!

  • incredible

  • Oh those were days, Rock & Roll, Black and White TV, and Dancing on the weekends. Sometimes it was in a parking lot with our radios tuned to WLS. Rolled up sleeves, penny loffers, and Lucky Stirkes in our socks or under the "T" shirt sleeves - We were really "KEEN!" My hair was long, wavy, and brushed back into a "DUCK TAIL" that drove my dad nuts. I miss those days but thanks to YouTube I can see our heros, sing our songs, and dance with my wife in the drive way. Rock on!!!

  • @MrDickedo You sum it up completely - watching this makes me 18 'till I die!!!

  • @MrDickedo - Hello. WLS? (World's Largest Store-Sears). Chicagoan? Me & my gang, too. Much later, in the 1980's, having moved to South Florida & in politics, I was at one of the endless campaign lunches when a publicist announced that her first job was at WLS. Brought back magical memories of simpler, casual days like you describe. Best Wishes & Peace to you.

  • That's pretty cool! They are obviously having a ball, and Gerry plays some hot licks on that Rickenbacker 12 string.

  • i like this video

  • Great ! Every time i hear this is like the first time.

  • Nice medley. Probably pre-recorded before the show, but still very funny.

  • Good shot Gerry, right on the septic tanks hooter!

  • There is a theory that a direct geological connection exists between areas in Appalachia and Northern England. I think this is proof.

  • OMG I'm 12 again!

  • This thing is running so fast that at 1:20 0r so the Everlys sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks...

  • ,, I Liike It '' :>) OUGH said Don when he nearly lost an eye by that stupid Pacemaker.

  • Artists paying respect to each other. Brilliant!

  • Looks like they genuinely had a good time w/this...

  • This is a hoot to see them trading off tunes! Thanks for posting this rarity!

  • What a wonderful video! A great treasure, I believe.

  • I know I'm onto this vid a bit late but... great. Never seen or heard of it before. "Pretend"? Version we all copied (as here) is by Carl Mann. Carl seemed ro specialise in "rock" version of "oldies". Proper oldies that is. "Pretend" was one of his hits as was "Mona Lisa". Similar treatment and another recorded earlier by Nat King Cole. Thanks for this one...

  • Magnificent entertainment. Love these guys. Best of British and American.

  • At 3:49 it looks like Don scares Gerry LOL. This video is too darn cute!!!

  • WOW,

  • I love this video!!!!!!!! THey are so cute!

  • I am a huge fan of Gerry and the Pacemakers. Have a look at youtube(dot)com/profile?user=britishinvasiondvds#p/u/3/zrIWPjCk8Gw

  • this is very funny video. I liked both Gerry and the Pacemakers and Everly Brothers when i was a kid, and stil do. so much great music from the 60's. Seeing this great musicians having fun and not being to serious is great :-)

  • Great stuff. Thanks for posting this.

  • This is SO GOOD!!!!!!!

  • I love this. it is so funny.

  • @ Cavanfan _ Gerry and the Pacemakers were not "copyists" They wrote some great music and early on were considered the best group in the British invasion.... ahead of the Beatles and the Stones. Not a "crap band" at all, they wrote and played great music. This is a wonderful video reflecting a magical and important time in popular music. Thanks for sharing.

  • It's pure FUN

If you don't enjoy this clip than you probably can't enjoy anything

  • Fantastic! This is great.

  • WOW! This is incredible! Thank YOU!

  • WOW ... 1.20 this is gonna kill me... I fell into my own trap... gosh...truely happy ya liked it...bye...laggie24

  • thanks for the share Angel,Amazing :))

  • Well cavanfan, if you're too embarrassed to be a pom, then that's you're problem, because Gerry and The Pacemakers and their music where obviously admired by The Everly Brothers and other muso's of that era and beyond, and they have had a large following of fans around the world ... What will be your legacy when you're gone - the reason whinging and pom go hand in hand ... Wake up bozo !!!

  • I am embarrassed to be British how a crap band like Gerry and the pacemakers (copyists) can be on the same stage as legends like the everlys beats me

  • This is so silly and so adorable and so entirely epic.

    *watches three times*

  • GREAT !!!!

  • What a funny and exciting video! Thanks, W, for reminding me of this one!

  • I'd rather greet happiness, than say hello to loneliness :)

Holy crap ....what a selection of GREAT TUNES FROM THAT ERA :))) Got dizzy from this memo lane ... :)))

Deeply appreciate this video from ya... very best wishes from Budapest

  • @laggie24

Thank YOU for this great share!

  • All I can say is WOW. That was absolutely fantastic. Gerry Marsden has a wicked sense of humor but sadly I never knew until I saw him live in concert last year.

  • I wish the Everly Brothers would have recorded How Do You Do first I think they do it better than Gerry lol, even though Gerry is playing on it? lol..

  • lol, nice one buddy

  • nose smash at 2:41

  • I know!!!What if it was in color????

  • Poor Don Everly and his nose...Love them both... :-)

  • OMG what a treasure

  • Who could not love those faces? I always loved Gerry and the Pacemakers, but now that I get to "see" Don and Phil, there is no contest. They say a woman is affected by sound and a man by sight. That's not always true, at least for a female. Give us sight and sound and you can't lose. Thanks for this video.

  • phil at 2:56 LOLZ XD

  • I think they had fun together on stage and I could here some laughs. They're not enemies their friends and they both rocks. For my vote, I like The Everly Brothers but Gerry and his band rocks too. ROCK ON!

  • Wow Gerry nailed Phil and Don with his Ricky, and gets his ass handed to him.Does anyone else think Gerry Marsden looks a little like William F Buckley?

  • East meets West!

    Right On

  • I like to imagine what the Everlys could have done with other music of the day, the beatles' for instance.

  • My vote goes to The Everly Brothers because of the way they could harmonize

  • This was when rock hadn't become everything it started out opposing.

  • I love them both, but I give this one to the Everly Brothers, even though the other guys have those fancy new fangled "electric geetars!" Then that one feller tried to take out Don with his geetar! Seriously, though, I think they are both great. I love the mersey beat as well as the awesome harmonies of the Everly Brothers. I'm going to "Ferry 'cross the Mersey from here."

  • WOW--quite the bloody nose there.

    Live TV ruled..!!

  • Woah!

  • I am only 34 but I love this music. It is really great to hear all of them to sing these famous songs.

  • I'm only 16 and I have vinyl LP's by both these groups!

  • Your generation throws down, son. Most open-minded, free-thinking people ever. Going to save the world and make it look easy.

And yeah, nothing beats vinyl. I grew up listening to my dad's early rocknroll records on his kickass hifi, and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. The crackle between the songs, the anticipation, the richness of the sound.

  • We're gonna have to saddle back the spending to make sure he gets out of the gate.

  • priceless

  • Excellent very well put together really enjoyed keep on rocking

  • Fantastic, lost for words, its great to see great American artists play with a great British band during the British invasion of the US charts.

  • It's wonderful fun to watch both pairs of brothers having so much fun playing these songs.

The drummer is Gerry's older brother, Fred. You rarely get to see him cracking up on camera (and really rocking out on his kit) like this.

It all seems so spontaneous. Poor Don.

  • That's how it's done!:D

  • Great idea, this one! :) The Beatles should have done it vs. The Kinks, too!

  • Never saw this before; thanks for posting. 'Pretend' was the b-side on the U.S. release of 'Ferry Across the Mersey'.

  • That was fuckin great - especially the last song.

  • Charlie Chaplin didn't write "Pretend", his most famous songs are "Smile" from the film Modern Times (1936) and the theme from Limelight (1952).

  • The last song is called "Pretend". It was written by the actor Charlie Chaplin and as previously stated, recorded by Nat King Cole.

  • Absolutely fabulous!!!!! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!!

  • Gerry's keyboard player left the band and joined the Royal Navy. Was on a course with him for 9 weeks. Buggered if I can remember his name tho. :-(

  • Les Maguire was his name..

  • great video, never seen it before.seen jerry loads of times allways a good show.dave

  • that was great! thanks for posting!

  • how good was that ? pure talent. great.

  • Pure Gold!!! TNX

  • great!!!!

  • Rare and fun. Enjoyed it. Thanks for posting!

  • Hey somebody can say to me what is the name the song in ahead of 2:24 and who is the author of this song.

  • walkeredu, it's "Be Bop a Lula", originally recorded by the great, Gene Vincent.

[Gene is one of the songwriters.]

  • AGibsonj, Okay, tank you for your answer, I am a Gene Vincent´s fan, but my english is not good, I wanted to say:

Hey somebody can say to me what is the name the song from 2:24 onwards and who is the author of this song?. For example somebody can say to me what is the name of the song in 3:14 and who is the author of this song?.

    Somebody know it?.

  • I think it is called "If you Pretend" I think it's by Gerry and the Pacemakers.. Of course I'm not sure..

  • Okay Synchronicity thank you. I get it. with the name you gave to me, I looked for in wikipedia (encyclopedia) and I found this: "Pretend" is a popular song, written in 1952 by Lew Douglas, Cliff Parman, and Frank Levere. And I am seeing other versions in youtube.

    Tank you. goodbye.

  • No Problem..

  • Alvin Stardust did it too in the 80s.

  • This song was also a hit for Nat King Cole (He played it as a slow ballad).

  • Walkeredu, you were correct, "Pretend" was written by Frank Lavere, Cliff Parman and Lew Douglas [in 1943]. Nat King Cole made it a hit in 1953.

  • I think this was pretty cool...

  • A fun and probably rare clip. Thanks for your post G & A!

  • Bizarre in a good way... most importantly... IT'S LIVE! And it was rare that acts of the day would play liveo on TV (that's why I appreciate the old Ed Sullivan music videos... they played live!!!)... This was a nice gem... thanks for posting!

  • Bizarre - in a great way! I love it. Thanks.

  • Thanx for sharing !!

  • Ahh, those were the days my friend.

  • Bloody marvellous. I never knew this took place. cheers.

  • Aw, poor Don D: But still this is completely wonderful, I love it!

  • Brill

  • Fabulous songs... wonderful groups!... so sorry it's history!

  • Great Blast From The Past !!!! Makes Me Feel Like A Kid Again !!!! Thank You For The Upload !!!!! Very Nice Video !!!!

  • love them. both. and their songs

  • Great! I am from then - that era , I don't remember any

collaborations at the time but compared to now it's all terrific.

  • Love this... hope it stays up ...Everly videos are bumped off so fast. Does anyone have the fab. one with Don and Ricky Nelson singing duet, it lasted only a few days!

  • oh someone email that one to me

  • cool never seen that before - cheers

  • Seen both live - not easy to say who's best. Met Gerry in person in 2006. Oohh, the day of my life... haha....

Seen EB in 1985 and 2003. Both times great....

This is a great clip. Just goes to show how good these songs are ... no matter what! Right???

  • Both groups are great. The fact that the Everlys are considered amongst the elite in the history of rock shows through also.

  • They sound so good. They remind me of a band call Street the Beat!! Its ashamed that a certain person does not want to make that dream come true!! But the Ghetto Brothers Band will come out very soon!!

  • Bravo performance by some greats and funny too!

  • thats a great jam.......class

  • Did anyone notice Don getting smacked in the face by Gerry's about 2:40 into the video?

  • that's "cute".... haha...

  • That had to be painful!

  • ROFLOL!!! This is fantastic! Well done for finding this!! Ten stars! **********

  • Great song

  • songS......

  • veri good

  • Some great tape thats out there.ty G @ A

  • wat is the last song?

    its good

  • "PRETEND" Originally sung by the Platters in the year 1956

from the Movie "Rock Around the Clock" from Chris Monteiro

  • I absolutely love this video. I got to see Gerry Marsden, last yr at Lock 3 Live in Akron, Ohio. After all of these yrs, he still puts on a great show.

  • pinky and perky

  • great! there like this band i use to know ; Street The Beat. I LOVE IT!

  • Thanks for posting this gem!

  • THE GUITAR smack that changed history. Management of both acts intended to combine both to form a SUPER GROUP that would rival the Beatles. Everything was fine until Gerry accidently smacked one of the Everly Brothers in the eye with his guitar. A major fistfight took place behind the stage after the show. Gerrys piano player John Mulligan had his hands broken by Everly security crew and Gerry suffered a sever cut lip.

  • Lol, and while the security crew was busy dealing with Gerry and his piano player, I consoled an injured Don. Well... somebody had to do it!!

  • You're kidding,right?

  • Could this be from Shindig season 1 ?

  • Newbie Mistake: Forgot to give it 5 stars.

  • I actually saw this live and never thought I would ever see it again. A lifetime favorite music moment. Especially "Pretend". Thanks for posting it!

  • yoiu saw it live?so you got to see the blood in color!LOL

  • The weirdest thing is that I don't remember the nose bashing thing at all. What got me was when Gerry and the Pacemakers played "Pretend". It was one of those musical moments you never forget. I HAD to have that song and found it on G&P's greatest hits, which I now have on CD, MP3 and backed up forever. Even with my progressive rock and classical music tendencies, I still love to hear that song. Think I'll go listen now..

  • These two groups are THE BEST!... Too bad 50 years have passed and they (EB) are retired... what a loss and the passing of a golden era!

  • actually it's 42 years.

  • That is a great post.

  • They sound better than the beatles. I know a band

that sounds better and the bands name is Street

    the Beat.

  • Never seen this clip before... Great fun!... Thanks GasAndAss...

  • the best

  • that was a "bloody " good video!LOL

  • MANAGEMENT SHOULD have formed a group with gerry and the everly brothers...they would have been used. The chemistry was there. too bad..lost opportunity

  • What a GREAT & fun performance by two of the BEST groups of all time... "it don't get any better than this" if you like golden oldies!

  • Again I thank you, G & A!! When I feel crummy I come back to this video and That'll be the Day and listen 'til I feel better! Doesn't take long!! TY ;)

  • great video i love it the everly brothers are fantastic. lol i didnt relize how short gerry was omg he looks so short next to the everly brothers lol

  • it;s a lot safer to play a guitar with people closer to your size as Don found out!

  • excellent, great harmonies Gerry came to Niagara

Casino and was sold out ;remember they were 2nd to the Beatles in Liverpool

  • Totally magical, a classic

  • is this Shindig?

  • Fantastic!!! Never let go of this one. On what show did they perform together? Was it in he US or UK? Thank you for sharing, GasAndAss. It is the best.

  • Shindig 1965.
