Simply hold down the back button and the up bottom for approximately 10 seconds or so, this resets your Zune. It just reboots the zune. wont delete or change anything.

Once the battery is dead restart you Zune the next day. After that I would make shore that there are no new updates for your Zune! I know this is late but if it happens again you know what to do!

All right I think I can help you! What you need to do is format youre Zune. You can do this by restarting it. To restart it hold the back arrow and the up until the screen goes black. Once you see the boot up screen (Zune logo) hit the back arrow, center click, and play. After that the Zune will tell you what to do! it should work!

it has to do with the source code. apparently whilst writing the code for the zune, microsoft forgot to make sure that the clock starts over once the year is over...so everything just freezes up... just wait a little while and there will be an update.

I decided not to charge my zune dec 31 2008, and I finally got word that we just had to wait. I waited and plugged mine into the charger today and it was all good. It worked fine! The Zune has it's good stuff and so does the ipod. But I have a subscription and it sure in the heck beats paying 99c per song. Zune still rocks!!!
The Zunes 30s are fixed now. They were failing cause theres a bug in the clock driver that it couldn't handle leap years (2008 was a leap year). If your Zune still has the glitch, turn it on (if its not on) and let the battery run completely dry. When its dead, charge it up and when it has enough power to run (probly around 10 to 15 minutes) it will start up normally.

You could let the battery die. Me and my friend just took the zune case apart, unplug the battery, then replug it back in. It solves the problem. Be VERY CAREFUL when unplugging the battery. But it solves the problem and all is ok, it works just like new.

I am not really to mad about this issue. My 30 g Zune fell victim to this outbreak and I hope Microsoft comes out with a fix for it soon. and when it comes to which media player is "better" (Zune or iPod) it all comes down to personal preference. Like I said before, I am not mad, these types of things happen and hopefully they will be fixed. I don't know how they will fix it, but I think we as members of the "Social" should put faith in Microsoft that they will find a solution to the problem.

Its a common problem apparently. I find it odd that everyones seemed to crash on new years eve.. but Microsoft says its a problem with the 3.0 software and the 30 gb Zunes. And their working on the problem now so there is currently no way to fix it.

This happened to mine last night too, you can hard reset it, but I really wouldn't recommend doing that. The best thing we can do is just sit and wait for a new response from Microsoft with a fix... Oh well, It's not the end of the world, they'll be fixed.
just in 2 minutes ago Microsoft just announced that to leave your zune plugged in until the new upgrade comes and do not i repeat do not open your zune to take the battery out and plugging it back in your just messing it up and the upgrade should be by the end of the day
all you need to do is pry off the black bezel around the ext connector on the bottom remove the 2 screws and pry apart at the seam with an exacto knife or something and remove the battery then replace the battery it works YAY

You could let the battery die. Me and my friend just took the zune case apart, unplug the battery, then replug it back in. It solves the problem. Be VERY CAREFUL when unplugging the battery. But it solves the problem and all is ok, it works just like new.

a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. That being the case, the issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009.

I am not really to mad about this issue. My 30 g Zune fell victim to this outbreak and I hope Microsoft comes out with a fix for it soon. and when it comes to which media player is "better" (Zune or iPod) it all comes down to personal preference. Like I said before, I am not mad, these types of things happen and hopefully they will be fixed. I don't know how they will fix it, but I think we as members of the "Social" should put faith in Microsoft that they will find a solution to the problem.

Its a common problem apparently. I find it odd that everyones seemed to crash on new years eve.. but Microsoft says its a problem with the 3.0 software and the 30 gb Zunes. And their working on the problem now so there is currently no way to fix it.

This happened to mine last night too, you can hard reset it, but I really wouldn't recommend doing that. The best thing we can do is just sit and wait for a new response from Microsoft with a fix... Oh well, It's not the end of the world, they'll be fixed.

just in 2 minutes ago Microsoft just announced that to leave your zune plugged in until the new upgrade comes and do not i repeat do not open your zune to take the battery out and plugging it back in your just messing it up and the upgrade should be by the end of the day

all you need to do is pry off the black bezel around the ext connector on the bottom remove the 2 screws and pry apart at the seam with an exacto knife or something and remove the battery then replace the battery it works YAY
