@essencevictoria Funny how the US managed to get to the moon without the metric system, not to mention creating the computer OS, CPU and internet you are using right now. Quaint huh?
record was set during fridays practice, bathurst 1000, 2010. well done. murphys record stood for 7 yrs. i wonder how long this will take to beat. my prediction for this yrs race is lowndes, even though his co driver , skaife is a fuckwit. lol. his team has the most experience considering the new driver rules. plus 888 has a good package. although jason bright loox good this yr also.
@MrFiveLeeeta ok having met the guy many times, both at bathurst and in my store seeing him in there for promotions and also seeing him push away a 10yr old who wanted an autograph that makes him a prick. also he always has an excuse. ill not deny his talent but that dont make him a good person. his skills wernt that good this yr tho, he dropped 6 places at the start, when lowndes took over he had to drive over 100 laps, 71 consecutively coz skaife wasnt up to it anymore.he should stay retired.
@thx1103n yeah hes a prick for pushing away a 10yr old, i agree 100%. but come on mate, he injured his back while behind the wheel. if i remember correctly, he drove about 15 laps with an injured back, which isn't very much but even doing one lap at bathurst with an injured back is very very gutsy and very painfull, especially if you're over 40 years old.
he should stay retired? i disagree. he's enjoying driving at bathurst, and i want to see him drive again at bathurst.

@thx1103n lol anyone would shit themselves when a car is coming towards you at 160km/h+, even if it was only for a second. ingal would have shot out a brown lump into his jocks too if skaife did the same hahahahahahahaha lol.
craig lowndes now has the lap record. 2;06.810. murphys was 2;06.859. the lap record was set during fridays practice, bathurst 1000, 2010. well done. murphys record stood for 7 yrs. i wonder how long this will take to beat. my prediction for this yrs race is lowndes, even though his co driver , skaife is a fuckwit. lol. his team has the most experience considering the new driver rules. plus 888 has a good package. although jason bright loox good this yr also.
im guessing it would be possible if they put up bigger fences at the top of the mountain, other than that the sand traps and tyre walls will do fine, and f1's saftey has increased over the years aswell
@dekiiiiiii the track is too dangerous for f1, theres not enough run off. ive lived all my life in bathurst, and having driven the mount god knows how many times, id dell say that its too dangerous for f1. le mans sport prototype is another thing entirely tho. id love to see those race around here. there was a yr they put a nascar round here. it was faster down conrod (310km/h) but the over all lap time was slower.
Anyone know where we can get the setups they have?? Ie Break Bias, Tire Camber and Toe-in, Suspension setups, Downforce etc..?? If anyone has any hard stats, please message me.
i agree baldyoldfart...but they are really strange cars...i mean no sequential gearbox...live axle for rear wheels...i mean it's prehistoric...(that doesn't mean it's sucks...because even in italy people (like me) fall in love with australian v8)
This is in 2004 and yes they did run a 6-speed H-pattern g/b. They do run now a 6-speed sequential g/b designed and built in Aust by Holinger (as was the H-pattern g/b).

i just wish one year, they would have multiple camera angles to choose from so we can decide what view we want and a button to shut those damn commentators. one year.....
Does anyone remember when the Skylines slaughtered the Holdens and Fords? BTW Richards/Skaife in the Skyline hold the race record for the Bathurst 1000 to this day at 6H19Min 14.8Seconds! Not bad for a record set in 1991.
yeah but the laps they pull out now are about 7 secs a lap faster. Its the safety cars now that change the whole race time. but timing the whole race is pointless either way.
The Skyline, Sierra etc in Group A (and earlier Group C cars) were road cars made into race cars! The V8 Supercabs (no spelling error) ARE purpose built race cars! Both are shorter and lower then any road version. The ONLY Ford and Holden parts on them, are the f**king badges.
Don't believe me? Go down to your local Holden or Ford dealer and try and buy one!!!
dude your retarted u obviously dont know how to read properly! i said the difference between a skyline road car and a skyline race car is not much therefore it is a good race car, but they have to adapt a falcon/commodore therefore it is harder to make it as quick and its only about 10cm shorter which is pretty much nothing!
dude learn to spell its homologation! and your term supercab makes no sense. the reson people like me dont like the gt-r and sierras was cuz they were fuk boring something u dont seem to understand! racing is racing, i dont give fuk if they are faster i like the racing component, i go for the drivers not for the car. And the v8s make racing closer and more entertaining
'Dude'....the only reason V8 Supercabs make for better racing is that they basically THE SAME CAR. Same gearbox and diff, same suspensions, same weight, same dimensions. The only differences are the engines, bodyshell and badges! And also the Safety Car makes for closer racing!
Dude, I am 47yo, I have seen Aust motor racing from 'Series Production' to 'Improved Production' to 'Group C' to 'Group A' to the current 'V8 Supercabs' and the racing today is nothing like it was back then!!
HAHAHAH. after the rules where changed, brock never won the race.he got all these special little goodies from the states......had 10 starts after mid 80`s and failed...go figure :)
brothers sisters join with us. fill your bladder, walk with us and empty it on stevos23 remains tonight. come brothers come respect him as he has passed over.
Apart from the Bathurst 1000 raceweek,it reverts back to a public road.I drove around it about 5 years ago for the 1st time a week before the race.I was gobsmacked at how narrow the track really is and no words can describe driving and snaking across the top of the mountain.Experienced US road racer Boris Said was at the back of the field. That just sums it up!!!
the torana A9X is basically a standard road car, fitted with drum brakes in the rear, and discs in the front. you bolt a roll cage onto the car, but you still have to keep the originbal interior parts in the car. and you put slicks on, and then you go racing. and that's exactly what brock did, and he bet everyone by 6 laps, no one finished on the same lap in that race.i think allan grice finished 2nd in that race. can anyone correct me or confirm the facts??
yes your specs for the A9X are correct. and brocky did win by 6 laps(grice was second). but that was in the days before the safety car so that record will never be beaten.
who cares.if a9x was so good, worth more than phase 3?..doesnt come close....rules were changed in bathurst.cant be bothered going into it.but you should!.brock never finished a place in his last ten starts.
so from 1987 onwards, he never finished at bathurst??? mate, in 91, he finished 7th, in 93, he finished in 21st, in 96 he just missed out on the podium. so he did finish a few bathursts.
well holden won twice, including both cars finishing with 1second of each other in 2003,and i have never seen a ford do that, so i will worry about it lol
and in 95 he would have done alright also, but after his crash on the mountain on thursday, the team forgot to put oil in both the cars, and the engines seized up
You're right about the A9X being 'basically a standard road car', but your wrong about the brakes and other bits. The A9X was fitted with 4-wheel disc brakes and a 'Salisbury' diff fitted and different rear floor-pan The std 'banjo' diff and floor-pan was fitted to all other LX Torrie's. They also had 'solid' mounted steering racks as apposed to 'rubber' mounted racks in the standard Torrie.
The 'L34' engine was already holmogulated, so there was no reason for a 'hotted' up engine to be used.
it took about 25 years to beat the GT-HO's 0-400m time, the only holden to ever beat it was the GTS-R. now the current cars are a lot quicker, the GT-HO might be dusty, but they're certainly not rusty.
Wouldn't it piss you off how hindsight is a wonderful thing. I know a guy who's owned an XYGT from new and didn't go the HO option because he couldn't see the point! Also in the early 80's I had a chance to buy an XTGT auto for $2,500 and a Phase3 for $7,000 at different times off original owners but being a Holden man decided to let'em pass. Do I cry now YES!
Call me old fashioned but I'd love to see Conrod opened up again as the braking duels into Murrays in the old days were one of the best features of the race. Besides how fast would they get to without the chase?
they would still only reach 298 maybe 300 ks because of the diff ratios!!! but I do agree no chase would be good to see, maybe with one less "hard" braking point those shitty brakes that the v8s used in 07 would've lasted the distance!!!
Yes it is sad though, motorcycle racers have been getting killed there for years but as soon as a car racer meets the same fate it's like "OH NO WE BETTER DO SOMETHING!" and they ruined the best part of the track in my eyes. Probably the same experts that scrapped group C for group A and wondered why we stayed away in droves!
they shortened the diff ratio in 87 when they put the chase there, to try and get quicker lap times, didn't they??? because the lap times on average in 86 and before, were in the 23 and 24's, they probbly shortened the ratio to get quicker lap times. correct me if im wrong.
I'd say you're right. Look at film of (it might even be on You Tube?) Brocky in his A9X and Skaify in his HRT car. Now that Tory would be the most Legendary car in OZ motorsport but the techno advantage of the Dunnydoor made mincemeat of it. Todays Falcodores will never see the value of an old GTHO/GTS. Even tho ther're quicker.
the GT-HO will never be beaten in the price stakes, because in it's day, it was the worlds fastest 4 door sedan. it's simply the best falcon that ford has ever produced (even though im a holden fan, i still like the GT-HO).
This is an AWESOME lap. The commentary is Amazing. The driving is On the edge. and the track is un-believable, but then again, what do u expect from BAthurst!! I love this video, Murph is ON THE LIMIT!!!!
The lil' Oversteer momement he has goin down the esses is UNBELIEVABLE!! The thing is On the limiter Everywhere it should be....Just AMAZING!!
some of them will be going sequential, it's just an option, but i reckon some teams will stick with the Hollinger gearbox. im not so sure about HRT, though.
look, motorsport is not an easy sport to get into, and it isn't cheap. our V8 supercar series is trying to change that, with smaller brake discs, and cheaper stuff, for the soul purpose of cost cutting, and stuff like that. euro series use whatever they like, because they have budgets that are about 6 times bigger than our series.
Does that mean you support cost cutting or not? You say European series have large budgets, but the DTM also has a field of only 23! V8s are heading in that direction because of large budgets. PWR has folded & also Walden who is a sister team to PWR who is not going to join next yr now.
i never said i support cost cutting, AussieBest, im just saying that that's what is happening. i don't agree with cost cutting because it's ruining V8 supercars, but that's the way it's gonna be, i guess.
actually, the only track that beats bathurst as the best track would probably be the spa 24hr track, it's got a long back straight, some tight corners, and a downhill pitstraight, so it's a really good track, i've driven my commodore on it, it's a bloody good circut.
These guys work the hardest out of any of the racing drivers.Sure f1 drivers have a lot of g force to cope with but they only use a paddle shift gear box. These guys use a proper manual gearbox for real drivers.Bathurst beats Monaco for the best track in the world too.
that's right, and to do that for about 6 hours puts even more strain on the drivers. it wouldn't be as much of a problem with a paddleshift or the sequential like on the carrera cup cars, but when you have to use a h-pattern manual for that long, trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds. i would like to see the le mans cars use the hollinger sequential h-pattern gearboxes, see how much of a strain they get.
mate, those cars are only meant to last for about 2000km, that's about 1200 miles, so i think all of them will expire by the 5th hour into the race. they'll be quicker than the le mans cars, but they won't last for 24 hours
lownds has won in '07', yet again, it'll be interesting to see if he wins his third consecutive bathurst, coz then he'll be a 4 time bathurst winner. 18 months ago, he had only 1 bathurst under his belt, and now he's got 3, let's see if he can make it 4
is it for anyone who has a high performance car? or is there certain Groups you're allowed to go into? and how much is it to enter your car? and is it gonna be in T.V? if it is, what channel??
Pity about the camera location but what a track and people don't realise just how fast and hard these guys are going!!! 99% of people would need a change of underpants if they sat in the passenger seat.
shame about the clown having to talk all the way through it

Unfortunately, that seems to be lost on opponents of V8 racing.

Who's the retard?
The VK, VL and VN SS Group A Commodores built by Holden and HDT/HSV were a holmogulation 'special', especially to allow Holden to race in Group A.
Why do think Holden dropped the engine capicity of the 308/5.0L to 304/4.9L? So as they could race with a lower weight!
The Skyline and RS500 Seirra's were also both 'holmogulation' specials.
And you could buy the 'road' version of the cars from any Holden, Ford, Nissan dealership.
Try doing that with a V8 Supercab!

in 1999, im pretty sure holden finished 1-2-3-5-6-7-8-9. only 2 fords in the top 10.

and in 95 he would have done alright also, but after his crash on the mountain on thursday, the team forgot to put oil in both the cars, and the engines seized up

Besides how fast would they get to without the chase?
stuing 4 years ago
they would still only reach 298 maybe 300 ks because of the diff ratios!!! but I do agree no chase would be good to see, maybe with one less "hard" braking point those shitty brakes that the v8s used in 07 would've lasted the distance!!!
primrose28 4 years ago
Yes it is sad though, motorcycle racers have been getting killed there for years but as soon as a car racer meets the same fate it's like "OH NO WE BETTER DO SOMETHING!" and they ruined the best part of the track in my eyes. Probably the same experts that scrapped group C for group A and wondered why we stayed away in droves!
stuing 4 years ago
they shortened the diff ratio in 87 when they put the chase there, to try and get quicker lap times, didn't they??? because the lap times on average in 86 and before, were in the 23 and 24's, they probbly shortened the ratio to get quicker lap times. correct me if im wrong.
ozcritic 4 years ago
I'd say you're right. Look at film of (it might even be on You Tube?) Brocky in his A9X and Skaify in his HRT car. Now that Tory would be the most Legendary car in OZ motorsport but the techno advantage of the Dunnydoor made mincemeat of it. Todays Falcodores will never see the value of an old GTHO/GTS. Even tho ther're quicker.
stuing 4 years ago
the GT-HO will never be beaten in the price stakes, because in it's day, it was the worlds fastest 4 door sedan. it's simply the best falcon that ford has ever produced (even though im a holden fan, i still like the GT-HO).

The thing is On the limiter Everywhere it should be....Just AMAZING!!

v8's are going sequential nxt year not good for left foot brakers i.e murph
bushlemon51 4 years ago
some of them will be going sequential, it's just an option, but i reckon some teams will stick with the Hollinger gearbox. im not so sure about HRT, though.

take ya pick mate is wat but ive talked to murph here in nz he has no prob lol eat shit ford

does anyone know if brocky made the top 10 for that 2004 race?? and where did he qualify??
jam3z07 4 years ago
He qualified 26th with a 2:10.5998. He was 2.5058 secs of Murph's pole lap.
AussieBest 4 years ago
To rectify a mistake above, it was Murph's qualy time, not pole time & it was Steve Richards who was on pole after the shootout.

look, motorsport is not an easy sport to get into, and it isn't cheap. our V8 supercar series is trying to change that, with smaller brake discs, and cheaper stuff, for the soul purpose of cost cutting, and stuff like that. euro series use whatever they like, because they have budgets that are about 6 times bigger than our series.
jam3z07 4 years ago
Does that mean you support cost cutting or not? You say European series have large budgets, but the DTM also has a field of only 23! V8s are heading in that direction because of large budgets. PWR has folded & also Walden who is a sister team to PWR who is not going to join next yr now.
AussieBest 4 years ago
i never said i support cost cutting, AussieBest, im just saying that that's what is happening. i don't agree with cost cutting because it's ruining V8 supercars, but that's the way it's gonna be, i guess.

actually, the only track that beats bathurst as the best track would probably be the spa 24hr track, it's got a long back straight, some tight corners, and a downhill pitstraight, so it's a really good track, i've driven my commodore on it, it's a bloody good circut.
jam3z07 4 years ago
These guys work the hardest out of any of the racing drivers.Sure f1 drivers have a lot of g force to cope with but they only use a paddle shift gear box. These guys use a proper manual gearbox for real drivers.Bathurst beats Monaco for the best track in the world too.
BigBagBen 4 years ago
that's right, and to do that for about 6 hours puts even more strain on the drivers. it wouldn't be as much of a problem with a paddleshift or the sequential like on the carrera cup cars, but when you have to use a h-pattern manual for that long, trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds. i would like to see the le mans cars use the hollinger sequential h-pattern gearboxes, see how much of a strain they get.
jam3z07 4 years ago
Well said. Those guys wouldn't last a proper gearbox without the nancy stuff for 24 hours.
BigBagBen 4 years ago
The lemans gt1 and gt2 cars. At least I was pretty sure they did.
VonVoltage 4 years ago
The lemans gt1 and gt2 cars use a sequential shifter. At least I was pretty sure they did. I'm sure the corvettes do.
VonVoltage 4 years ago
well they should try out the Hollinger gearbox that these cars use, then they'll see how tuff driving a V8 supercar really is.
ihatenissanskylines 4 years ago
Bring em to Le mans.... Then we will see who can drive! Rex
Lordpigpen 4 years ago
mate, those cars are only meant to last for about 2000km, that's about 1200 miles, so i think all of them will expire by the 5th hour into the race. they'll be quicker than the le mans cars, but they won't last for 24 hours
jam3z07 4 years ago
Talking about GT2?
I even doubt they beat GT2 cars over long distances simply because of brake wear. Very few pad or even disc changes at Le Mans nowadays.
No need to talk about P1 cars.
Peugeot did a 2min flat at Spa this year, no chance for those overweight saloons.
They're the best tintop series never the less

lownds has won in '07', yet again, it'll be interesting to see if he wins his third consecutive bathurst, coz then he'll be a 4 time bathurst winner. 18 months ago, he had only 1 bathurst under his belt, and now he's got 3, let's see if he can make it 4

Pity about the camera location but what a track and people don't realise just how fast and hard these guys are going!!! 99% of people would need a change of underpants if they sat in the passenger seat.
