OMG THAT DREAM SOLO!!!!!!! Miss komleva is great everywhere but this dream- variation just killed me. She is perfect and that cambre derriere I will never forget again.
I last saw Komleva dance in 1988, her final year as a dancer. That was the year of her 50th birthday. I did not see her perform, but rehearse Swan Lake with Kurkov. At age 50, she was better than almost every ballerina in the company. This 1987 Raymonda is in her 49th year and amazing. What rubbish that Makhalina at age 40 was considered washed up, My favorite variation in ballet is that dream scene solo, but only true greats, like Komleva can do it. I want to see Yulia do solo more than any one
I easily can believe that she was the best even at the age of 50. If I hadn't know her age in Raymonda I wouldn't say that she was almost 50, I wouldn't even say that she's in her forties!
If talking about Yulia - my imagination works very hard creating vision of her Raymonda every time I watch this ballet.
@looovecats Gabriella was amazing at every age. Yulia needs to do Clemence's act 2 solo one time for video purposes and then forever Raymonda. Ostreikhovskaya was phenomenal in the most difficult solo in all of ballet, Clemence's act 2 solo. Ostreikhovskaya should have been a principal. Too bad that nobody important in the Mariinsky fell in love with her, like what happened to Pavlenko. They are around the same age and Ksenia is miles better.
@russianballetvideo I liked Vasnetsova's Clemence better than Ostreikhovskaya's. Novikova's dream variation looked sparkling in the bit shown on the Tsar's Lodge. Stepanova would be like "a piece of delicious chocolate melting" in the dream variation with her port de bras, etc.
@looovecats Thank you for sharing us this great performance!
Great Komlava never makes us feel that she has to deal with the tons of variations which demans technical superiority and strength and stamina, at this age of 49th? She was miraculous!
And Yulia who could put much more sensuality in this piece.
Thank you for this video. How wonderful to see Komleva -- what a unique artist.
