Fairbanks, Alaska

I've lived just outside Anchorage for the past 4 years and last summer I was in Fairbanks en route to Galena working for Alaska Fire Service. Hate to say, but as much as I love Alaska, Fairbanks is the armpit, as is much of "the interior". Scenery is minimal with only rolling hills, overall very ratty city except for the North Pole area that's pretty nice, and winters that make Siberia a paradise in comparison. Summers are nice and warm, but air conditioning is just as contraband there as the r

Born and raised baby! Chena river is some of the best grayling fishing i've ever done. 28 mile chena hot springs road when the river is high... trust me :)))))))))))

LIved in Kodiak AK for 6 yrs....then Fairbanks for 15 yrs. Then moved to AZ...Hate it in AZ and wish I had never left Alaksa. I will be moving back to Fairbanks spring of 2012 and I"m going to die there!!!!!! You can have the city life!!!!!!

wow this movie is old. Fairbanks hardly looks like that anymore. I also dont know where that sign is in the beginning. They mustve taken it down. Oh the Alaskaland sign is priceless. Too bad they changed it to Pioneer Park (lame) and ruined the place. Your not going to get a job for six months unless you are a full time resident, good luck with that. There are no good bars here, really, not anything like Chikoots anyway. I suppose the Big I is the place to be now since they made it "historic" .

well it depends on how u look at it. i agree its bored as hell. i usually switch from the village to city. thats what keeps me going. alot of activities in the village. I F'ing love snowmachines. but the city is good to visit ppl and hang out. but staying is one place is just.... insane. tv and computers will be your best friend in -50 below weather

aaaahhh! I love Fairbanks! I've been here all my 16 years of life. But, man! This is a really long time ago - sort of - cause AlaskaLand is now Pioneer Park...the tourists were getting confused thinking "alaskaland=disneyland" so the name got changed. grrr... my friends and I still call is AlaskaLand though. The only downside of Fairbanks is the -60 weather from Dec-Feb. And, it DOES get dark completely...just not in the summer time. Especially June and July. And, yes - people do ski the Chena..

Fairbanks is great... I lived and worked there for three months (March-June.) In that period of time i experienced winter spring and summer... Summer is the best... everywhere there are flowers and people are nice. I experienced -30 there and i cant go outside too cold for me since im from a tropical country. Its just plain and simple city. and that's what great about it.

Thanks for the great introduction. Fairbanks is one of the very intriguing places and definitely has my interest. I live in Minneapolis and so I have checked statistics to see just how much colder it gets in Fairbanks. Prettty cold but still believable for the most part. -30 is rare in Minneapolis but it does happen.

the winters are long and dark but the summers are really nice

it gets arround 85deg on the nice days durring the summer so its not to hot and the winters are usually arround 30deg but we sometimes have like a two week period where it is dark and like -30 to -75
