Miao is the name Chinese gave it to us Hmong or Mong people after they took over our homeland. Maio mean young seeds, to be percite young rice seeds after our ancestor Daxi or Naxi depend on how you want to spell it. Naxi was known for their argricultures such as farming. Even today Chinese barrow alot of crops name from the Hmong. Miao was giving to us meaning we're the young seeds or a branch of Naxi. Again Naxi was giving to them by Chinese. Chinese intended to seperate Hmong people but fail.

I just came back from china a month ago. I met some Hmong chinese the day before I return home. Some of them could talk to me in Hmong but some only understood a few words I said. Those who couldn't talk to me in Hmong could only say that they were Hmong Qeej which I've never heard before. What is Hmong Qeej? I know what Qeej is but Hmong Qeej, no no? I mean we have Hmong Dawb(white), Hmong Dub(black), Hmong Leng, Hmong Ntsuab(green) but Hmong Qeej is the first time I heard it.
Even if miao speaks chinese if we go there to china and speak hmong to miaos they can still understand and reply back in hmong because they're hmong themselves just live in china..Hmong chinese..just like those who are born in america..Hmong Americans..we sepak english...that doesn't make us white...hehehehe
we hmong people welcome you to our hometown which locates kaili city guizhou province of china where there are so many nice place and nice people to visit.
Ayouduo is just like Mim Haam...they both are Hmong Suav or Hmong Chinese. Yes my friend. Despite as Miao people going through extensive changes, we should always remember who we are. We are distant physically and geographically, but in our hearts, we are still one big family.
Hi there! I cannot say she is hmong or not, but I am Hmong and my parents were Hmong from Laos, and I can tell you that the traditionnal clothes and the melodies are quite different from the tradionnal hmong songs. Her clothes are even different from the traditionnal hmong-chinese clothes I have seen.
@l3lostitch Ok. Im not part of your convorsation but with that fact you just stated, What language is this one in? There is another one by this same woman, I dont know if you have heard it or watched the video called Sun drum, what language is that one in?

Well, China recognises the Hmong as one of their last surviving ancient ethnic groups. The beautiful headdresses and clothes of the Hmong people in China attract many people. They're also the fifth largest ethnic group in China.
I'm not complaining ...I just her strong voice! I listen to her music when I need to get away from the world !! ^_^ Her music are soooo soothing.........to take you away to paradise!
dude, why use magpie to substitute stripe hmong? you guys must be crazy because magpies are scavengers like crows. They eat the nastiest things. It's better to use the word "spangle", or "dom" as it describes the beautiful coloration of some chickens that your parents probably have in the backyard, then to use the word magpie.
Hi, magpies and crows are totally different. Chinese people think crows bring people bad luck, while magpies bring people good luck, so Chinese people like magpie a lot. So that's not a bad name.
It's quite obvious none of you have really done any research on Hmong history, anthropology, or ethnography. From your ebonics laced postings, it's safe to conclude that few of you even went to college. If you did, you definitely didn't get your money's worth. For your information, linguistically, Hmong in the west speak two main dialects, Moob Dlawb and Moob Leeg. When you refer to striped Hmong or Black Hmong you're referring to subgroups delineated by geography not language. Get an education!
Both White Hmong and Moob Leeg agree that lug Moob Leeg is the original Moob dialect as far as S.E. Asian Hmong are concerned. Obviously, our language has evolved and developed into independent languages. Chinese Miao will agree that what makes us Moob or Miao isn't so much whether our dialects are mutually intelligible, but rather our shared history, culture and religion. Now for you idiots who claim to understand this song, you're all hearing things because she's singing in Mandarin.
You make it seems like you're the only intelligent one here. Both White and Lees/Green do not agree. You only made this statement because you believe it to be the original one. Both White and Green Hmong are separate groups from the same branch long ago. For your information, Hmong in the West speak more than just two dialects -- Hmong in the west include Yunnan, Vietnam, Burma, Thailand and etc.. if you're talking about United States I don't know about that.
It's quite obvious that you're showing green nationalistic/superiority statement. As a white Hmong, our parents have always tell us that we're either WHITE, MAGPIE or BLACK but majority of the time, we're either Black or White. From your statements above, it seems like you're not elaborating your research. seems more like you're just going along with whatever these hmong professors are saying. There is no such thing as ORIGINAL dialect.
oh and for your info, I am a college student. I took cultural/physical anthropology classes, religion, asian art, ethnic studies, hmong history and linguistic studies. Languages/dialects are due to geography and regions as well. For your information, Magpie Hmong speak a different dialect but their dialect shift to be White. Don't speak nonsense if you don't understand White Hmong History. You don't know much about us. We're not just White like what you think we are.
Yes, the Green and White dialects are similar. I don't get the Hmong people who said they can't understand the Green dialect. I understand perfectly well. I have several close Green Hmong buddies. When they speak, it makes me want to speak the Green dialect with them.
I don't mean to intrude, but magpie Hmong? Is this a new category? As far as I know it, I've been calling them Stripe Hmong ('cause that's the literal translatin from Hmoob to English...)...This is also from my own general knowledge only...no classes involved...
Yes, but how come it's Magpie instead of Stipe? I mean, I just don't get where the workd magpie derives from...Like, it just sounds like a label (well, of course green and white are labels too...hmmm...Do you get what I mean?)
I looked up Magpie bird thinking it was going to show me some revelation, but it didn't! It only showed the cuteness of a magpie bird and it's mimicking talents. ^^m Thanks for the reply. I think the magpie bird is cute, however, just 'cause I'm used to it, I prefer Stripe over Magpie (it sounds like something I can eat, like a pie). Well, now I'll leave you to your thing. Lets keep learning about our Hmong history!
~mbf =]
p.s.
Wait! This is not the end: paintings and their artists!
Look we Hmong-American don't even understand each other, and the funny is we all from Laos. GreenHmong don't even understand whiteHmong and the other way around. So don't expect yourself to understand the Hmong-Chinese. We had left them behind in China for over 600 years. We Hmong-American live side by side and become some of us are green while others are white, we don't even understand each other that well sometimes. We are the funny puppy here.
Two common dialects are White and Green. My mother is a RED HEADDRESS HMONG yet she told me my ancestors are BLACK HMONG. My dad is WHITE HMONG yet he also told me my ancestors are BLACK HMONG. we have intermix with so many different Miao groups that we are still able to break down what we are. Yes, I can be White, Black, Stripe but I am not Green Hmong because I cannot trace my ancestors being Green. Though I do speak Green and have lots of Green Hmong buddies.
you speak green hmong because green hmong is also actually hmong (ling) the original hmong language. why do you think ayouduo speak some hmong ling instead of white? pplz called me green, but i considered myself ling because my parents told me im ling. They never say that we are green. They said that it's because white called us ling "green". But anyway we are all miao and we are chinese. the chinese in hmong is the "Han". The world see us miao(hmong) as chinese also.
The White Miao or Bai Miao came from Kwangtung aka Guangdong Province according to their folktale. All Miao groups somewhat speak quite differently in the past but because we have live among one another for some centuries, we begin to somewhat understand one another. I understand hmoob lees perfectly but that if only they speak it slowly.
Lie Ayouduo is Hmu (Hmu is a subgroup of the Miao Zu/Hmong in China in case some of the people reading this don't understand) so I believe she speaks the Eastern Miao dialect. Song Zuying speaks the Easterm dialect as well.
She speaks Hmong but in the Eastern Hmong/Miao dialect particular found in Guizhou, China. It's difficult for the Hmong in the Central and Western dialects to understand. There are sub-dialects but mostly classified as the Eastern, Central and Western dialects. The Hmong in Southeast Asian and U.S. speak the Western dialect.
I believe Ayouduo speaks the Central dialect while Song Zuying speaks the Eastern dialect because if you listen to some video of Ayouduo where she performed in her native home, their dialect is very similar to Western. Their are also other Miao groups in China that their dialect is closely related to the Western Hmongic Family.
Shut the fuck up and stop spamming your bullshit. You've all probably seen what happens to fuckers who insult the Chinese people......just watch the Olympic relays
i just go back from china and met two miao women from kali, guizhou. They siad Ayoudou lives about 10 km from them and her last name is Yang. Love all Miao.

you speak green hmong because green hmong is also actually hmong (ling) the original hmong language. why do you think ayouduo speak some hmong ling instead of white? pplz called me green, but i considered myself ling because my parents told me im ling.

I spelled Miss Ayouduo's surname wrong. It should be Lei, Ayouduo.
samlorson 3 years ago 2
Lie Ayouduo is Hmu (Hmu is a subgroup of the Miao Zu/Hmong in China in case some of the people reading this don't understand) so I believe she speaks the Eastern Miao dialect. Song Zuying speaks the Easterm dialect as well.
samlorson 3 years ago 2
She speaks Hmong but in the Eastern Hmong/Miao dialect particular found in Guizhou, China. It's difficult for the Hmong in the Central and Western dialects to understand. There are sub-dialects but mostly classified as the Eastern, Central and Western dialects. The Hmong in Southeast Asian and U.S. speak the Western dialect.
samlorson 3 years ago 2
I believe Ayouduo speaks the Central dialect while Song Zuying speaks the Eastern dialect because if you listen to some video of Ayouduo where she performed in her native home, their dialect is very similar to Western. Their are also other Miao groups in China that their dialect is closely related to the Western Hmongic Family.
