I live in Lebanon, Roger please visit it someday. You might not have a great audience here since the country is really small, but the ones who know you adore you.
My three wishes, that I may meet Roger Waters one fine day, that I dont lose my hearing, and that my earphones will still work in the grave. That way I will always have my soul mate, RW.
My"Three Wishes!" I wish; the World could "Wake-UP!" and understand what is Stealthily being Orchestrated in OUR World! I wish; WE Could ALL come Together as ONE Human Race! I wish; WE could start a New World Religion for "United Love and Peace!" Consider it done?
I think it's important to appreciate what Gilmour was capable of as well. Let's not forget who wrote PFs most beloved song ever. Let's not forget who played and still plays the guitar like noone else can. And let's not forget how many fans, including myself, who actually enjoys the gilmour-albums just as much as the waters-albums. I believe it's the combination of these two legends, together with Richard and Nick, that made this band so special. Their dynamic made PF what it is today; legendary.
Roger Waters to me is the greatest lyricist to ever have lived. Gilmour provided the strings, Mason put down the beats and Wright threw down some killer keys...No doubt the best band that ever existed...funny how it took me years to find them :)
@RythmikLove - I think what you need to appreciate is the difference in styles from Glimour to Waters. It always seemed to me that DG was about personal evolution and seeing who your are, looking into your experiences and gaining the lessons you can. Roger seemed more political to me, the final cut, the wall, & amused to death. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all three artists, groups, what not, but the difference in message was always clear to me.
lots of a-soc going around, official forum closed down today - out of control shame too such an amazing artist, i saw roger in 85 detroit show never got to see pinkfloyd but roger waters is always the rock show of a lifetime
Amused to Death is the best Roger has done... so close to his heart and musically fantastic. Just listening to On an Island by David and you can see how far apart these two have grown . There is no way Floyd could have continued with both of them there.
It's not a matter of who is better... within context, they are the best at what they do, period.. we just happened to experience their joint efforts, lucky us. Live them alone and enjoy.
To Agree and disagree to all comments made bye Floyd is simply to much typing and the fact that this band still has epic tunes to go and without any of them such as the loss of a member is truly heartbreaking.I remember when Syd was prnounced. The flash back was almost surreal as i played Umma Gumma,This band wherever they play and whatever they for is in my opinion the class that true musicians never really argue aboutso i say fuck the rest PINF FLOYD is still the best.
I Disagree; Roger Waters took control of Pink Floyd to fulfill his own egotistical desires and wishes. “Three wishes” is not really a love song about a lost love or women, but rather about “Pink Floyd" (his true lost love that the genie could not bring back). David Gilmour was just as strong musically as Roger Waters . He proved that with a momentary lapse of reason. Roger is a better song writer, but David Gilmour is a better song producer. Hence the "Division Bell"
@VeraWall I like the title VERAWALL that is a deadly tune I will never argue with anyone who truly knows the Pink Floyd . Truly they are the best of any band who can compare to there phsyche Syd was a SYD if you know what i mean and I really think he was to much for his highs and lows and i do love the umma gumma album but i really believe that ROGER really brought some umph andmeaning to the band and the amused to death is what seems to be a personna oa bill hubbert and war check back
I think you have a problem with your perception of reality.
Division bell was a travesty of an album, and any true floyd fan can see it lacks just about anything of the floyd concept and should be labelled as pink fraud.
@architecturalabdabs Try unmatched instruments buddy. Lyrics isn't the only thing that matters. Coming Back To Life, Take It Back, Poles Apart, Marooned... They outshine the other Floyd albums instrumentally.
@dobrov88 lol You're only three years older when you're saying that. Nice impetuous validation moron. :) Congrats! You just got your first channel view after 3.5 years!
@architecturalabdabs Nope, but I wish I could attend one. I've seen vdeos of PULSE and their solo tours; they're all amazing. Division Bell is their third best album in my opinion; it even beats Amused to Death.
@architecturalabdabs They aren't touring anywhere near my vicinity. I'm getting tired of Floyd in general; I've heard all of the albums so many times. I've loved Division Bell since I was 5 years old; my dad thinks it's the greatest album ever made. I doubt I'll grow to hate it, perhaps just tired of it. :)
@11ellsbells Average length of 6 minutes per song isn't facile mi boi. You don't need brilliant lyrics to have a great Floyd album. By that logic, all of their albums before 73 sucked.
@11ellsbells Division Bell is 66 minutes long. If you say it sucks because it doesn't have brilliant lyrics, then the albums before Dark Side of the Moon must also suck.
@Polterguist Division Bell is truly a solid, beautiful album. Its lyrics are great and has love songs, which were not properly abundant in all the "Waters" albulms at PF.
@DenGolub79 & PETESEYESBLUE- the woman speaking at the beginning of the song is South African- probably from Cape Town. She refers to the "flat" which is an apartment. Her accent is very obvious to me as I live here. The "gas bottle" is LPG gas which is a mixture of propane and butane. She did not light it as it would have blown the place up. When the gas is released in a confined space it causes asphyxiation as it is heavier than air. This is why she chose the smallest room in the "flat".
@garyconcar Thanks as i have heard this album more than or just as much as the dark side of the moon or meddle or animals or well you get the picture the thing that is unusual after the the high hopes LPG which i found in a record store and the vinyl was blue and that truly is a great album. Roger is unique and truly a great musician in fact since Syd passed on i find myself going to umma gumma and the more album which was recorded in Africa am i right THE Pink Floyd era is still slassical
@garyconcar As a Brit, I sussed the Seth Efrican accent (no offence) out right away, but what's the bibliography on this woman's story? ....Fill me in...Thanks mate.
@garyconcar As a BrIt,I sussed the Seth EfrIcan accent {no offence) out right away, but whats the bibliography on this woman? fill me in...thanks mate.
The woman in this video is absolutely stunning. Anyone know who she is? I mean is she a girlfriend of Roger's? Just curious. The song is as beautiful as she is.
Speaking as someone who wishes his dad had not been gone when he was young, this song and many more by roger waters touch our hearts and reaches our inner selves. this is very deep and personal music and means much more than just music!!! thank you roger and pink f.loyd for 'reaching me'
I like the line "you see someone through a window you just learned to miss". Of course I find him to be the most genius songwriter!!! I remember back in '96 I used to play this album ALL THE TIME - and even practiced my own "tributes" of the songs. In addition to my own stuff, I ate, drank, and slept "Amused to Death" at the time!!!
@DenGolub79 can you tell me is it the whole song from the disk as it begins with the Indian woman describing the gas bottle with this part of the song you can really grasp the tune in the beginning and the end an epic classic PETESEYESBLUE
This particular song on the disk has the lady who sounds like she is from India and she is describing filling a gas bottle and pooring it on comeone and lighting it up and at the end of this song she is describing how if things were different she would not use the gasbottle.Does any one know what i am reffering to on this song and why is it left out of the video which makes the song more powerfull. This whole album is beyond phenominal and if not his best creation solo
This is one of Roger Waters best--pure genius. I just wish that I could find a copy of it LIVE. Jeff Beck's solo in this song is nothing short of incredible--thank you for posting this video on YouTube.
Roger uis not only a brilliant lyricist but also a brilliant melody writer. People seem to forget that the two must go together to be successful and must preceed the actual playing arrangement. This track meets all the requirements, I'm in a different place when I sit quietly and luisten to this at full whack. Thank you Roger
So much satanic symbolism associated with Pink Floyd, from the cover with a triangle and rainbow running through it, to the lyrics they use...this is more indication of them having sold out
Even after the zillionth time watching this video I still love it. I also have spent countless nights listening to ATD (it's even better through headphones!) And it's nice not to have to dig thru a pile of VHS's to do so. Roger is awesome, I'm so bummed I have to miss him this year :(
Anyone know where exactly this was shot? I'm about 90% sure it's somewhere in the I-15/Mojave area but... I dunno.
I get the concept of the television amusing us with a false atmosphere; the only goal is to provide entertainment which loses the original essence of the material. However, I can't find the connection between such amusement and death. Can someone tell me how such amusement might extinguish the human race? I get what Waters speaks about the television and how it has gone out of its way only for amusement, but how does that connect to death? Can someone fill the gap? This albums confuses me.
@Polterguist From listening to the actual song "Amused to Death", Its my understanding that the human race perishes in a nuclear holocaust because they were too busy watching it happen on TV. Far too amusing for anyone to actually take the time and effort to try and save themselves..."they found our shadows around the TV sets." A nuke explosion can leave the shadow of a person on a wall or some such assuming the wall isn't instantly vaporized.
@schmittelt That makes much more sense than what I could think of. I thought they just starved themselves to death because they couldn't pull away from the television; that sounds stupid compared to your explanation. Thanks a lot for your help.
If you like "Amused to Death" you should read Neil Postman's book "Amusing Ourselves to Death" (1985), which inspired Waters to write the album. It will help you appreciate the lyrics even more, and put a new perspective on what we get fed these days as "entertainment". Just think Jerry Springer, Ricki Lake, Steve Wilkos and "Cheaters," for example.
I wish when i was young my old man had not been gone!
the best in Roger´s music is that it makes us think in life, when i listen to his music i remember my fatherw ho passed away, he teached me to listen to Roger Waters.
today i look back and i and every time i listen to these musics it brings so many memories of him.
@floydiantheo I went to The Wall show in Montreal yesterday. Great show, great music. Yes the Wall is 30 years old but you know, it's like seeing a painter doing is great paint in front of you... I'm glad i went and see it.. very glad. And he's using new colors! .. live long. About this video: music is great. Just a reflect of the 8.0's. Bad taste. Every camera weighted 40 lbs. I went to the wall show with my 23 yo girlfriend. Black Eyed P fan. She loved it.. The Humanity have no age..
You guys really are missing the message and point in this song. Who are you to block people ?? Tell me??? It's not up to your arrogant standards BOOM to block people! A lot of trouble starts with dumb ignorant persons like floydiantheo!! I mean come on! It makes me sad, truly sad FLOYDIANTHEO remind me of individuals who made mankind feel ashame. Probably find your sorry asses and talk some KRISHNA behaviour to your stupid clowns FLOYDIANDTHEO. haribol..
Roger Waters is talent used to prick the conscience with lyrics that cause reflection and sleepless nights as we ponder our apathy and cowardice. But the state of the human race is reflected in Britney Spears, as she spews vacuous, vomitous pus that passes for music, which along with stomach-turning, eye- watering shots of her genitals, sells tens of millions...as we slide backwards into a sea of mediocrity and death. Oh Sweet Jesus!, Vote Jerry Springer for President!!.I hang my head and weep.
I have looked back over the past many comments and am awe struck, for here on the smallest of levels is all that ails humanity.
I find remarkable those who, on bended knee and with clasped hands, look to the heavens for answer to the searing madness that plagues the earth daily, when here before them is the answer: tiny small men and women whose course in life is guided by ego, arrogance, stupidity and vindictive, vexatious rhetorical foolishness.
@TheUtubesuxass She's not a 'dullard', just another pathetic Polack. And it's quite painfull for me to say that b/c I'm Polish myself. But I despise all those idiots who still don't really know what to do with all this fucking 'freedom'... Please do yourself and all of us a favour and ignore this bipolar bitch. It's the only way to get rid of her.
@JRLUECK.i m amused to death you re saying that.lol...last good album written and composed by waters was the final cut.amused to death is cheesy and lack of inspiration.bored to death would have been a better title...
@irena7777777 It's like being attacked by a wet flannel that has just been used in a toilet cleaning incident, get a life then an education then kill yourself, not necessarily in that order.

Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings,
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down.
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Polterguist 1 year ago
@Polterguist From listening to the actual song "Amused to Death", Its my understanding that the human race perishes in a nuclear holocaust because they were too busy watching it happen on TV. Far too amusing for anyone to actually take the time and effort to try and save themselves..."they found our shadows around the TV sets." A nuke explosion can leave the shadow of a person on a wall or some such assuming the wall isn't instantly vaporized.
schmittelt 1 year ago

Just listen to the music, all else is noise.

Cheers to all Roger's fans. He's da man! Forever.
