@rednck09: They DID (and DO) care, because the aircraft is not owned by the Coast Guard or by any other branch of the government. It was a privately owned aircraft (known as a Coast Guard 'facility' when flying in service to the Coast Guard), and the relationship to the owner was very special, indeed. Both of those highly skilled pilots did not want to have to put it down, knowing they were about to sustain any amount of damage, but they had to, and did it RIGHT!
Just to make the record straight, the crew and pilot of this aircraft were Coast Guard Auxiliary pilots, not Coast Guard. The Auxiliary pilots are volunteers and highly skilled pilots, many of them retired pilots oar airline captains.
So let me get this straight they make an emergency landing because of the nose landing gear not deploying properly yet they still have to land.... did they land where they wanted to be at or did they land at a runway that was not their destination?
@JoshClements22 lol btw im bored so I stalked your profile. Says your 16. You arent eligible for any real certificates (except glider and those lame ones) until 17. lololool "pilot" check my vids k i fly taildraggers
@KiDFRANKKK first of all you're fucking retarded to say you stalked me and "saw I'm 16",
I'm 18, first of all buddy,
and second of all I DO have my pilots license, Illinois FAA approved me with this fancy thing called a Certificate, and I got the papers two weeks later.
@JoshClements22 IF youre 18, maybe you should update your about me info broski trolololl. "Illinois FAA approved me" lol that makes no sense. Well anyways, I have a private, and im going to southern illinois for aviation. Getting ready for the next big airline hiring. Livin your dream. Get mad
Nothing BAD went wrong, I am a pilot. Can clearly tell hydraulic pressures dropped very low on the nose gear, making it inoperable and unstable. They had a prop-strike (lucky the propeller didn't break apart and kill them once it hit the runway) and also the engines were shut-off prior to landing, probably because they knew they'd prop-strike and skid. Note he kept the nose up all the while.
yeah that's the way to do it, it didnt look like the pilots shut the engines before the prop strike, or they maybe did but the engines on most twins take a while to turn off like turbo-prop.
That all sounds very impressive until you realize the 1974 Cessna 414 has electric landing gear (and flaps). The engines weren't shut off prior to landing. When an aircraft has three-bladed props, you can't minimize damage or inspection requirements by stopping or feathering the props. This pilot knew that. That's why he's in the cockpit and your on FlightSim 2000.
The captain of that aircraft also knew that based on the wind (see the aircraft slightly shift just prior to landing), and the possibility of having to do a go-around, he needed to keep the power in until the main gear made contact with the pavement. He's a long-time, high-time, and highly skilled pilot.
@FlightLevelHeaded well put! Those flight simulator enthusiasts are nothing more than enthusiasts. They lack the judgment needed to become real pilots because to them they only have to hit reset. cheers!
Hey Guys, I was just wondering if you would check out my channel. My VIDEOS ARE KIND OF LIKE A MIX OF THE YOUNG TURKS AND SXEPHIL. I make videos everyday and it would really mean a lot if you just checked it out.
why does number 2 have on pink wings in the beginning ad ? anyway how many more planes have to fall out the sky before someone, anyone makes a connection ???
great landing... god you have to love when pilots pull their awesome flying things... probably a safe ditch is one of the more impressive things like the hudson landing.
@Aquatica4: Yes, they did put it down where they intended to; At their destination, where the Coast Guard had immediate access to it.

Shutting down/ feathering the prop would have made a great difference on the bill!

I'm not sure you will ever be able to find a case where a prop strike resulted in the propeller breaking apart.

Composite props, like on a Dehavilland Dash8 or a Cheyenne 400, shatter and disintegrate when they strike the ground. It's brutal.

The Front Landing gear did deploy, but just didn't lock... So the misinformation written in the info area is a little misleading.

a propeller-wind-pushy wingy wheely broken flying thingy?

Light, twin-engine plane. Twin engine, general aviation aircraft. Multi-engine land plane. Twin-engine, fixed wing aircraft.
Just about anything but a small engine plane.

thanks, yeah, small engine didn't sound right to me but I know nada about aviation.
