  • this voice is similar to Jamie Cullum's voice

  • 2:02 to 2:05, that the stuff from the king

  • 2:01 makes me realize how shit i am at guitar ahahah

  • i would suffer a heart attack if John mayer walked in to a studio while im recording

  • sounds like jamie cullum singing..

  • His playing is so soulful, and he has such a strong technical command of the instrument...just trying to follow some parts of what he's doing my fingers get confused. I can only hope that by figuring it out I can integrate some of that vibe into my own style.

  • 0:45 - 0:49 Sweet, sweet lick.

  • should be called "John Mayer shits on kid's dream of being a guitar player"

  • @dashowest00 Jonathan Carr, the student he worked with, is a piano player and a singer, and John's guitar playing was a great compliment to the kid's talent, and is by no stretch of the imagination shitting on his dream.

  • Does anyone know what the chords would be on a guitar?

  • I don't care WHO you are, all that -fanfare, what else- can't be conducive to studio "headspace" it just CAN'T..

  • Thats Awesome and and amazing time for those kids..very lucky..I would crap my pants

  • 4:02 beatifullllllllllllllllllllllllllllll riff

  • no wonder carr didnt make it. what a twat. if i had the chance of having john mayer play over my song, i'll try to put every single bit of his playing into my song.

  • he has a voice like Jamie Cullum

  • These licks are sooo sick! Why the F didn't they appear on the final product?

  • john mayer obviously like the chord progressions and knew he could put a perfect solo over them. you can hear him, take by take, getting closer to harmonizing and "battling" with the vocals to create that perfect balance.

  • lol all this guitar shizzle is not even on the final result. If I were John Mayer Id say screw you Im not playing for those 2 notes for your record.

  • This song is not good

  • @cripplicious Yeah I remember thinking the same thing when I heard the final track. What a wanker! And what a waste of John Mayer's time and talent!

  • @HitPalaceTV @cripplicious you guys really dont get it. John Mayer heard this song when he went to Berklee and 12 students were told to perform their originals in front of him. JM really liked this one by Jonathan and apparently said that he would produce it for Jonathan. And in the end asked Jonathan if he could play guitar over the record.

  • @cripplicious

I just listened to the recording and that's definitely not the case.

You can hear John on and off for the last minute and a half of the song.

It's a lot like his usual style of soloing (i.e. the guitar solo fading in and out at the end of songs--Gravity, Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, etc.).

Also, Mayer produced the song, so I'm sure he approved.

I think John's playing blends perfectly with the song.

Anyway, it's Jonathan Carr's product, not John Mayer's.

He can do what he wants.

  • @cowboycliche022 I think he didn't want people to pay too much attention to him as well since it wasn't his song, just a song he was helping Jonathan with.

  • @cripplicious do u not realise that John produced as well as played guitar on this track? if anything john probably took out all they solos himself.

  • 4:15 what song is that?..it's jonathan carr song?

  • The solo section from 2.10 to 2.30 is sickk

  • @willmoor91 serious goosebumps moment

  • lol "ready sir?" 2:10. John's a PERSON. Sure he's a celebrity, but he's just like anybody else.

  • really badvoice

  • @turtles12 shut the fuck up. 98% of people wish they had a voice like this and could hold melodies like that

  • @njdkidd1231

    no because it sounds bad

  • @turtles12 who agrees with you?.....no one

  • Can you please post the song now to check the final result?

  • @juanpa0007 it's on jonathan carr's myspace

  • Jonathan, you're a Berklee student, that means you are learning a lot about music to accomplish your dreams. Believe me, with that voice, you will.

  • Where can I find this song?

  • ohh go to Berklee now bc John Mayer went there! anyone who can't see Berklee is a scam is retarded.

  • @Whatisthescore They'll take your money, but you'll take the resources.

  • i have a still frame from the music video

  • @mbasketcballb my guess is: the amp's mic'ed up in another room and your hearing the guitar through the studio monitors..

  • forget johns playing... the song is sick!!!

who is guy?? im gonna find more of his stuff...

  • this is a good song! and JM's guitar tone is just awesome.

  • Jonathan sounds very like Jamie Cullum. Nice voice! Mayer is as awesome as ever!

  • @EoinDM Wouldn't have thought of saying that myself, but it's true, he does sounds like Jamie Cullum.

  • check out jonathan carr on myspace!! its his song u know!

  • Good song! :D

  • Love it=) if anybody has time id appriciate them checking out the two vids i have on my channel

  • wow i love this kids voice, i'm graduating from high school and most likely going to apply at berklee :)

  • thats agood song wish i could get the mp3.

  • he fuckin tore that shit up hahahha

  • Is this guy from planet earth? :)

  • dude i have no idea who johnathan carr is but that song was really good. and oh yeah, john mayers the shit!

  • @CBCCLTBNOSNOH29 The Johnny boys LOL

  • Thanks, now i can't barely move my neck..

  • Really good song!

  • johnny went to my school aha !!

  • John has so much empthy with his soloing, always love the direction of his melodies, and he's not scared to make mistakes, even amongst students.

  • Yea well, why should he? :) Music is all about respecting eachother and coming together to have fun. :)

  • @naedsukram then listen to jimi hendrix live show sure you will like them and remember live shows not studio

  • i need to step my guitar solo game up

  • nice!

  • perfect

  • woww thats a great song.

lucky guy to have jm play on it

  • Good song!

  • I NEED THIS SONG ON MY MP3!!

  • google listentoyoutube. itll let you get audio off of anything on here.

  • kinda retarded cause it sounds exactly how john sounded on "Inside Wants Out" when he was 18 or 19 too.

  • this song is actually pretty sikk, i hope this kid makes it big

  • jamie cullum singer?

  • does sound kinda like him doesn't it? i like it

  • @leonardacoustic jonathan carr^.-

  • man, sweeet

  • this song is sick

  • Jeez poor guy. Let him do a take - all those people takin pics : / Not good studio ethics hah.

  • @oranjuly true lol but without these people recording we wouldnt have the opportunity to see/hear this :)

  • @oranjuly I'd think he is pretty used to it :P

  • @oranjuly true its far too busy to have a real relaxed set. nice all the same :)

  • 0:46 is pure money

  • Comment removed

  • @jmneon HELL YES! Thanks for pointing that out! It's gorgeous.

  • @jmneon HELL YES! thanks for pointig that out. It's gorgeous!

  • this sounds great damn i wish mayer would team up with this student.....

  • also QuitePleased I'm curious to know what you play and what you've written? Has it charted? Are you performing? Where can I find your music?

  • A lot of you are really misinformed to think that there is ONLY one way to get a great guitar tone. Really people it's about the song! Di, amp or a combination of the both? Don't limit yourselves with in the box thinking. Try any and everything. Also any of you that want to try to knock John...Have YOU written any hits? Can you even play?

  • wow this guy sounds like jamie cullum

  • so true

  • haha at the random mpc lying on the table

  • I understand the two-rock thing but seriously, he does use a DI box. It's pictured in the sleeve of Continuum...an Avalon u-5 I believe. Listen closely and you will hear the reverb roll off of his guitar that is identical to the mix.

  • This guy's voice sounds like that british musician Jamie Cullum's.

  • Lush!

I love watching JM play like this!

And damn he has the best tone around!

  • two rock two rock two rock. he designed it

  • no, they were desingned for him. he didnt design it.

  • haha what?? Two Rock had been around long before John Mayer. They're basically clones of Dumbles.

  • he uses Two Rock amps. Which are custom built amps and are very expensive. Great amps though.

  • Someone had asked about his amp. I have read that he often uses an Avalon direct-in box. The DI box would make a lot of sense here since an mic'd amp would be getting bleed from the monitors.

  • Two rock amps are johns bread and butter.

  • i dont know why people keep thumbs downing you, its probably true. lol. doesnt sound like a mic'd amp. if it were a mic'd amp, the record would sound like shit. direct in is most likely. lol.

  • the album would sound like shit if it were a mic'd amp? why would you say that....

  • because its playing through the monitors fool. If you miced the amp, you'd get feedback and other bad sounds and the sound on the album would be just straight up bad. its goit to be a DI

  • .......

  • I like that he sort of sits zen on it for a minute, lets it sink in, restates the melody in a riff with astonishing speed and flourish.

  • aha SWEET im getting the 212 deville!!

  • where do i get this song?

  • Damn that song could belong perfectly to Jamie Cullum!!!

  • anyone have an idea what amp is used here?

  • Not sure what he's using there, but I think he usually uses an amp called "two-rock reverb"?? Not 100% though to be honest.

  • He might have used a fender hot rod deville 212. Those are the guitar amps that berklee uses all over the campus. They have those amps in about every room. Hard telling what they have in the studio.... It sounds great whatever it is!

  • amazing!!

  • 2:17-2:30...thats it....no other words to be said about that

  • where can i buy this song iv been looking for it for ages!

  • Nice song. I like it. Would deffo buy it!! Lovely work by Mayer!! :-) Keep it coming

  • god hes good!

  • 3:48 - 4:13 sounds like ¨I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)¨

  • man....your knowledge about john mayer isn't the best ;-)...yes it is...

    search for I don't trust myself....glastonbury festival 2008...unbelievable intro

  • hahaha thanks i know most of his songs hes one of the few still making real music.. and yea i saw that one is awsome to.. ;)

  • The solos are so good !!!!!!! great feeling

  • is there anywhere I can buy this tune?

  • THIS SONG IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's the best blues artist of my generation.

  • cause there isnt to many anyways

  • yea maybe, but maybe not.

  • Him and you can't forget Derek Trucks

  • Oh yeah he is awesome too. But john mayer has more exposure due to his commercial song writing and compositions. Derek trucks is more roots IMO. Plus I prefer strat tones... like SRV, mayer, Hendrix etc.... Not too keen on slide blues.

  • haha the first thing I thought when I heard the singer was that he sounded like Jamie Cullum.

  • the singer sounds like jamie collum!!!

  • beautiful.

  • freakin unbelievable.

  • where can I get the recorded version of this?

    i'd like this version.

  • the guy singing has a beautiful voice & ofcourse john mayer's parts are beautiful

  • I wish i could put that much feeling in my guitar playing !

  • 46 seconds to 48 seconds.

How can you pack such emotion into such a small space.

    That little riff... magic.

  • Yeah it's fucking unbelievable. But he's also human, remember that. practice practice practice.

  • Pro Tools

  • sounds a lotlike jamie cullum...i love it

  • so true

  • is that Garageband he's using?

  • John Mayer is the best guitarist on earth... with few notes he can describe the most magical passages....

  • i know.... its because he mastered "dynamics".... which is the ability to convey a range of tonalities... blues is all about that...

the better use the part starting at 2:15

  • Comment removed

  • that is absolutely fucking true. why can't anybody understand this stuff? all he has to do is hit one note and everythings done. there's so much feeling in every single note he hits. its fucking nuts...but no one see this shit..

  • Sounds like Jamie Cullum putting new lyrics to "Taking on Water"

  • Sure it's not necessarily innovative, but it's still a very pretty tune.

  • I don't know why poeple are shooting this kid down so much, I'd kill for that voice.

  • any way i can get a finished recording of Jonathan Carr's song?? or any of his other work??

This song with John Mayers guitar i just great.

    Even without mayer its great.

  • In about 6 months you'll be able to grab a copy in the bargain bin at your local record store.

  • he probably had to start playing his own song just to get this kid's shit song out of his head

  • Ha ha .. Well said

  • god damnit I cant get this out of my head, its too hot and sexy

  • what a lucky bastard!!! whoa!!

  • okay, chords, tab, lets have it! xD

  • indeed. some generic ballad

most of these berklee students will go on to become teachers there

  • Exactly.. They are just rehashing the same old stuff. No originality. All these new artists try to be groundbreaking, yet there lyrics hold about as much water as a slotted spoon. Jonathan Carr, the joke IS on you.

  • i agree, i'm surprised that berklee is considered to be so prestigious. yeah, they've had some successful alumni but this kid jonathan carr got like a big scholarship to go there and this is such a boring, generic song. there are 17 year old kids in random midwest towns making and writing better shit on reason and pro tools, but they'll never get scholarships to berklee because they aren't boring.

  • Exactly.. I have great respect for an artist who at least tries to be different. You can't learn this stuff at a college. Berklee is the proverbial conveyer belt dishing out fresh clones into the so called music industry.

  • i sure as hell wouldn't pay $35k a year to sound like this kid. i guess that's why a lot of successful berklee students were dropouts haha :)

  • Truth. Individuality definitely isn't learned in college.

  • AMAZING!

How do you get offered a scholarship for a college like this?

I am 16 and from Liverpool , England and i sing and play guitar.

I was actually offered a place at a music college here after my teacher walked in on me playing the piano and was impressed. I turned it down foolishly because i wanted to play guitar for a living rather than piano. Now i regret it and wish there was a way for me to some how find my place and a path to a career in music.

  • 2.17 - 2.30 was really good. Loved it, great sound.

  • damn that was pretty tasty

  • What a song and melody.

And to have Jih solo-ing over the top of it.

    Beautiful.

  • Hey dummy, quit turning the fucking camera sideways... really annoying....Jackass.

  • John Mayer should be a song with James Morrison ..

  • yes yes , that sounds as Jamie Cullum!

  • totally jamie cullum!

  • jonny carr is what you call talent!! :)

  • That's awesome, he is so good

  • Sounds ALOT like Jamie Cullum..
