  • I still say they should be name'd Medieval HOT Babes!!

  • J'ai plein de frissons quand j'écoute cette chanson. C'est divin.

  • just as info for anyone coming across this, and not to their discredit in the least. this is not an authentic medieaval group. they are inspired by this music, but they do their own thing with it.

  • That's amazing. What kind of music is that? Classical, folk, what? I heard them years ago and thought they were special, then nothing. Where do they go, what do they do? Why are they never played? Do they exist?

  • @hardyfh1 It's "Mediaeval" music. Hence their name.

  • @hardyfh1 try reading about them on wiki. Mediaeval music. been around over 12 years. I saw them live in Glasgow years ago. Sunning stuff. As to why they're not played... cos they weren't on X-Factor, probably ;-)

  • i like the sound of this.it makes it seem that an era long gone has come alive. i just wish i knew what they were singing about. can anyone recommend any books to familiarise myself with the language used in this song?

  • @zitchan The poem is found on wikipedia along with a translation if you need it.

  • @Thekendrick99 "Translation" ?! OMFG, why the hell would anyone not be able to read the lyrics? Sigh.

  • when would of this been sang?

  • @coolaids100 Actually it's a 15th century Middle English Poem..earliest known written version of it was around 1400.....though may have been even earlier and was suspected to be from a wandering minstrel.

  • 14 dislikes?? take that is that way >

  • Is it just me, or do they all have vampire fangs???

  • @Upstreamprovider Festival of Immortality sounds like a vampire themed festival to me.

  • @MindOfVacuity It is. If you look some of them have fake fangs on. Not something I'd want to sing with, but it's still awesome IMO. =D

  • The woman on the drum in the back ground looks like Hammer from Fable 2 haha

  • i still remember when they came to my school yearsssssssss ago. watching them perform in person is truly amazing

  • @woolfall170

Dude, your comment makes no sense. Y would want 2 brag about owning "failed singers" a.k.a. singers that nobody wants 2 listen 2?

  • @woolfall170 Remove head from Ass.

  • @woolfall170 You are a total prat!!!! What talent do you have...

  • @woolfall170 You sir, have failed, epically.

  • @woolfall170 How is that even possible when there is no copywrite for a lot of what they sing? A large chunk of their singing is songs that were written long before copywrites were even invented. They sing a wide range of things from the middle ages, hence their name.

  • @KoriMasho It's possible for an arrangement of a traditional tune to be copywritten. A lot of recent arrangements of traditional tunes/folk songs with are the property of the arranger (not the lyrics or tune).

  • whats this song about?

  • Fabulous sound !

  • This is a good variation of the song- in fact, the best!!

  • Only possible in UK!XD

  • So is this Mediaeval Baebes or Immortal Baebes? I am confused!

  • @Karen21242 It's Mediaeval Baebes, not Immortal

  • @LadyoftheRedDeath

Ok, cuz at the beginning of the video it says "Immortal Baebes" so I was all... yeah.

  • Damn that lady drummer is hot!!

  • vampires singing a christmas carol....um...ok...

  • @jerryrigging vampyrer ! ja då inbillar jag mig inte . ( ang, tänderna) .

  • @jerryrigging Christmas Carol?..... Silly, this is NOT a Christmas Carol, It's a song of Adam waiting (4,000 yrs) for the resurrection of Yeshua imprisoned for the apple which if not picked by Eve, we would never have Marry as our Queen of heaven. Therefor we say blessed be the time the apple was taken. An interpretation of the "Fall of man" I love. They sung the entire concert, Themed immortality, with the fangs.

  • I got shivers when I listened to this... I love them!

  • These are the words as on the manuscript! Adam lay i-bowndyn, bowndyn in a bond, Fowre thowsand wynter thowt he not to long And al was for an appil, an appil that he tok. As clerkes fyndyn wretyn in here book. Ne hadde the appil take ben, the appil taken ben, Ne hadde never our lady a ben hevene quen. Blyssid be the tyme that appil take was! Therfore we mown syngyn Deo gracias!
  • Love it!!!! The taiko drum really compliments them perfectely.

  • He is risen!

  • fantastic.

  • What's wrong with being an idiot?IAnyone calls me an idiot I regard it as a complement. After all there's enough of us about

  • OMG! Awesome!

  • Como eu amo o som dessa banda, gsuis ^_^

  • Very nice. Beautiful music, very different and lovely.

But what's with the fangs though? Anybody know?

  • @R3nO0 Figure it out...

  • This is just too weird - the costumes, the woman on the big drum, bass guitar and cello... I prefer my version :o)

  • I've got my hands on their artbook, which is full of very exciting photos. They have unique image, they also have large sense of art. I loved them since I heard they fir the first time.

  • Damn, I'm going to ejaculate...

  • @RobotBadger is the solution in hand?

  • @antonthegreatone It took me 48 hours to understand your comment. Nice one.

  • @RobotBadger yes solution, as in liquid.

  • @RobotBadger You're trash, pure & simple...

  • i earned my blue ribbon royal music award with this song!!!!!!

  • Do my eyes betray me, or do I really see they have/wear fangs?

  • Omg do my eyes betray me or do I really see that they wear/have fangs? O.O

Damn with fangs they are even prettier^^

  • Adam Lay Ibounden

Adam lay ybounden, bounden in a bond,

    Four thousand winter thoughte he not too long;

And al was for an apple, and apple that he took,

As clerkes finden writen, writen in hire book.

Ne hadde the apple taken been, the apple taken been,

Ne hadde nevere Oure Lady ybeen hevene Queen.

Blessed be the time that apple taken was:

Therfore we mown singen Deo Gratias.

P.S. this song really makes want too eat a apple

  • So beautiful. I want to put them in my pocket and keep them there.

  • Robotbadger if your gonna post filth at least learn how to spell it

  • @SpiritWanderer50

My spelling was just fine. Talk that trash again, and I'll burn you to a cross, cut off your head, or worse.

  • @SpiritWanderer50 Idiots like Robotbadger don't know how to spell because they're ignorant all the way to the core.

  • I'm in love.

  • @Asqarath:

I must agree that for certain sounds they use you're probably right. However, it should be noted that, although mostly congruent and spelling and pronunciation, Middle English did also have its own oddities deviating from the continental pronunciation of especially vowel diphthongs.

  • I've loved this song since I first heard it several years ago, and I've sung about three of the dozens of other versions of it, but this video makes them look more Wiccan than Christian for a Christmas song. Still sounds great though.

  • Actually, the way they pronounce things is quite the way it would be proper for middle English to be.

  • They're rather inconsistent in their pronunciation. It's very much a mixed bag of Middle English and modern English sounds.

  • And it also may sound odd because they are Gaelic.

  • 'Gaelic' is the name for the Celtic language spoken by some people in Scotland, which in turn is derived from Irish. Nobody is 'Gaelic': Gaelic is the name of a language.

  • @lexo30 You should have known what I meant. -.-

  • I do not think they are English somehow.. :S

  • surely the mouths of them all have been digitally altered by someone to make them look like vampires ? looks great tho and a fantastic show

  • what language is mos tof this in? Cause there is bits of English, is it Old English. I first thoguh Gaelic but it doesn't fit that so welll

  • I believe that it is mostly Middle English, which is somewhat like modern English, but is pronounced very differently. The grammar is also somewhat different. Old English is earlier.

  • Adam lay ybounden, bounden in a bond four thousand winter thought he not too long, And all was for an apple An apple that he took As clerkes findin, Written in their book, Nay had ever an apple taken been Nay An apple taken been Nay had ever our lady Never a been a heavenly queen Blessed be the time, that apple taken was Therefore we sing Deo Gracias
  • It's all english, but alot of it is english and every arrangement is different. Conductors and performers can pronounce things differently(ex; apple is app-lay, and blessed is blees-ed) I sing in a choir and we are singing the Boris Ord version, where we say taken as tak-hen and thought as thote. It all depends on the arrangement, which makes it sound as though it is in a different language.

  • This is Middle English, not Old English. There really is a difference between the two...

  • @AsioshTheDiabeu do you know of any references? I know Old English might as well be Klingon as far as we are concerned, but am curious as to what the differences really are.

  • @slarmas . . . Old English, the language of the poem, The Dream of the Rood, was spoken from the arrival of the AngloSaxons (5th C?) until after the Norman Conquest. It is close to its German roots and was originally written in runes until Irish missionary brought the Latin half-uncial script. Middle English developed beginning in the 11th C. It's the language of Chaucer. Much of its vocabulary is Latin-based, through French.

  • @slarmas

Its not klingon,. The english language changed formally in the 18th -19th centuries.

That recently. Our English regional dialects are the same but are also considered nowadays as being less than English and low class because of the Victorian Middle Class attitudes. Rather than the pure springs they actually are.

  • @MrWhitfieldDavid Bull, it is Klingon damn it ;) , but seriously despite your obvious lack of respect for all things Star Trek, thank you for the information :) Love the music, kicks ass, one of the few groups that are not Slayer that I would like to go see. (PS if you are offended by anything I said please eat a strawberry with sugar, then re-read this, yummy fruit changes your whole perspective :)

  • A big difference. Middle English is a lot more comprehensible to modern readers than Old English.

  • @AsioshTheDiabeu Yeah evanescencegal101, you wanna see Old English, go look at a copy of Beowulf. Public education is shit these days.

  • @AsioshTheDiabeu

    you arrogant prick

  • @jackforporn

Arrogant because I corrected someone's mistake?

You're probably the only person offended by my comment...

  • @AsioshTheDiabeu

    actually this is macaronic

  • @AsioshTheDiabeu tiss iss MACARONIC inglisch .

  • @AsioshTheDiabeu false..... there are also songs from them not in any form of english... some middle german.. russian.. ect... completely amazing

  • @VampiressCelinor I know that, I only said this particular song is in Middle English, not that they only sing in English...

  • So much better than the garbage they put

    on the "popular" Top-40 stations!

  • I love it !!

  • Yeah, there is certainly a macaroni in that wilson.

  • ...me is stunned....

  • That was awesome! I can't say I like the vampire look but fabulous song, great drums.

  • WOW, hair on both arms, back of the neck went straight up, simultaneously!!!

    Superb video, WHERE'S THE DVD?!?

My little 14-month old daughter came toddling out to dance to this

Gonna catch that on video someday ;)

    =US=

  • Have you tried looking for the DVD on the Medieval Baebes website?

  • yeah, like 5 minutes after I posted that ;)

The last time I visited their site tho, ages ago, there were no videos for sale. Been awhile but they're still the greatest!

    =US=

  • i like it very

  • are those vampire teeth?

  • Yes.

  • I was going to ask whether one of the singers had filed teeth. Scary.

  • I'm the bassist in this video!

    Seriously.

  • Cool story bro!

  • I love the Baebes!! I can't wait to see them live again!

  • Wonderful version... Anybody knows if there is a DVD or CD of this festival ?

  • Comment removed

  • Ooh, I like this arrangement!

And the girl beating the drum has awesome thighs!

  • its wonderfull how they all sing together and the music makes them imortal. love them to bits, .awsum group, love to met them. keep up the good work.

  • Seems to me that it is the first version I hear becomes the one that my brain marks as the original and compares all subsequent versions to, whether it is the group's original or not.

  • I totally disagree....I feel the live version is so much...richer. The Studio recording just sounds canned to me.True...you hear the Ladies much better, but the accomp. detracts from it a bit. I love the "depth" of the music in this one. Plus singing with their teeth in,and the costumes,is just HOT!!

  • @ChrisMJones74 This one is with electrical instruments. The other one is done with only instruments they would have had at that time. But I do agree with you. I like this one much better.

  • sorry nin but the babes version is awesome, but i will concede that the live version isn't quite as good as their studio version.

  • For some reason, it makes me think of Walpurgisnact, even tough if you listen to the words, it's essientally a Christian song.

  • Don't be so serious everyone, listen to the history in this song, it speaks of Medeaval times , lost to us? it is so beautiful and mysterious because of it!!? , enjoy! I imagine the time when the writer thought of this song? what were times like then??? this is what I see in it.

  • They're not good at this song. Listen to my school's version. It's the one titled Chamber choir with no song name.

  • Tard

  • Ya I'm sure your school class sings much better.

But I think I'll take Mediaeval Baebes version, their great and look good in fangs.

  • Medieval babes' version of this song is terrible.

  • I think this vision of Adam Lay Ibounden by Mediæval Bæbes is great. Their are professionals after all not amateur singer.

  • It makes no difference if they are professional singers or not. I'm not doubting their ability to sing, I just think this arrangement is terrible. If you want to hear how it should be done, listen to the Kings college version here on Youtube.

  • Thank you I did go listen to the Kings College version and I still prefer the Mediæval Bæbes version sense it is more medieval sounding and to my liking. I have the Mediæval Bæbes albums and video's and I have this video no my myspace page.

Thank you the Kings College group were very good but I have to go with my favorite and I like Mediæval Bæbes very much, like I said they have a medieval like sound and feel in their video's which I enjoy.

  • ok fair enough :)

  • Medeaval future is the way forward! Run from your lives into the forest of forget, into the land of reverse where yesterday is today and tomorrow is NOW!!

  • Original is much better. I don't like this.

  • How did you hear the 'original'? Were you born over 1000 years ago?

  • Er...for a start, the original manuscript was found in a 15th century text, so much less that 1000 years ago. Also I am talking about the original and best known arrangement by Boris Ord, which is sung by choirs all over the world, most notably at the Kings college chapel in Cambridge.

  • So? I still prefer this version. If you don't like it, don't listen.

  • @nin456 seeing as it was found on a 15th century manuscipt, and is believed to have been written much earlier, the Ord arrangement is hardly the original.

Also, as it is believed to have been the song of a travelling minstrel, enchanting though Ord Choral version is the Mediavel Babes version is likely to be closer to how it originally sounded, especially bearing in mind the other songs that were on the same manuscript!

  • I had to sing a version of this song as a solo in a Carol service at chritmas its really hard and i was nervous.I kept wanting to sing this version lol

    xNx

  • what kind of music is this? their really good.

  • just saw them live last night . amazing .

    xxx .

  • I am a long time fan as is my daughter - I love the way they bring the ancient into the modern age and make it accessible. Perhaps I've got that the wrong way round and they drag us back into mediæval times!

  • Nice Version, But I Prefer The Other Version.

  • o that's just great. everyone saw them beside me!!! I just discovered them a few minutes ago

a friend send me their names, after they have been in The Netherlands.....! Thanx dude, for letting me know their existence!

  • saw em live yesterday

  • Gonna see them tomorrow.

  • They just preformed in Philly this passed Saturday. They were excellent.

  • i love the teeth.........they can bite me anytime..ok..they are fantastic...never seen anything like them...pure gothic sexy ...brilliant

  • Dear friends, i'm a "fan" of this group too,i see in your mails that is difficult to find good music in your countries like in mine, between top50 and others that is offert by the medias. So the web is a geat tool to find all the music we don't find on the others.

  • Adam lay ibounden Bounden in a bond Foure thousand winter Thought he not too long And all was for an apple An apple that he tok As clerkes finden Wreten in here book Ne hadde the apple take ben The apple taken ben Ne hadde never our lady A ben hevene queen Blissed be the time That apple take was Therefore we moun singen "Deo gracias!"
  • Thanks!

  • Awesome.

  • That dosnt surprise me, Classical musics scene is its own worse enemy, there was a tv show were celebritys were trained to be conductors, a criticicm for one of the contestants was "you move too much, you need to be more still" Classical is as bad as dance is that sense, they reject anything differnt because its automatically lesser than itself. its truly repulsive

  • Incredible! i love it..

  • They're always just absolutely amazing.

  • Great live performance!

  • И от Руссичей хочу сказать нам тоже не чуждо искуство. А тем более такое удевительное и прекрасное

  • this is class i have seen them in person cuz i do medieval renactment at barkley castle

  • I like it. This is the best.

The hungarian peoples are like it.

    Just feel the music...

  • I love this group, i have video's on my myspace page of the Mediæval Bæbes because i love them and their middle English singing.

Fangs are just so cool looking on that girl.

  • Every time I listen to this song, I love them even more. Is this Old or Middle English?

  • Middle English, I love their singing too.

  • right

  • elles sont magnifique, c'est magique comme musique un vrai bonheur

  • These girls are awesome...they make me want to die...I cant find ONE bad thing about them...

They are slightly evil and sinister but that maeks them even sexier!

  • Just Wordless...Do some body knows when they are going to germany?

  • Have you tried looking on their website for tour dates?

  • I've found the website. Thx very much for that hint :)

  • Well, because it sounds cool. ;) Honestly, the Mediaeval Baebes aren't concerned with being historically accurate, but with making good, fun music. Taiko drums are awesome and fit well with the song, as do electric guitars, so why not put them in?

  • Okay. But hold on: that means sweet kitten doesn't it? Are you a Baebe?

  • it's a good group. Very calm and beautiful voices. Singers remember me wiccan witches.

  • To say the truth, at that time (first album to end 2006) two memebers of the group were pagans (Wiccans to be precise), so you are not that far from reality

  • Hang on ?

They've all got vampire teeth in. More fun.

  • That one with the vampire teeth could bite me any day ! (or Night)

  • Love them Especially there Song -Miri it is.

  • Awesome

  • wow, love the material but the breathing is so poorly done, every phrase is cut off at the end like some bad high school choir

  • Was the full show taped? Where can I find this recording?

  • The full show was recorded but never released.

    I own the masters.

  • The song is actually in Middle English, but at the time Middle English was spoken Latin and French were used for matters of church and government. The latin phrase means "praise be to God" so it's not unusual at all.
