I will break it down like this... The bass player is average but solid. That multi-tone train whistle thing he does with his voice is killer. The guitar player is a great bluegrass rythym player but not a soloist. The banjo player is not exceptional but hes better than average with great finger speed and good riffs. As far as the old man goes, I dont think I've ever heard him play a chord on that mandolin. All vocals are average. Band is tight but needs that comedy to compensate.
Wow!!!! All the negative comments mean one thing: JEALOUSY! I'm in the business myself and the Goldwing Express folks are great friends of mine. I have to say they must be doing something right because they can out-sale just about any band out there! And I'm glad for them.... They know how to put on one heck of a show!!!! All I have to say is keep up the GREAT work Goldwing!!!!!
Logan Housman and Steve Baldridge here. We are working on getting a YouTube account set up with some good quality video clips. Hope to see everybody soon.

The funny thing is that Goldwing Express is considered a bunch of hacks by everyone in bluegrass music. They throw in a few laughs and people are ignorant enough to think the band is actually good. Mike Snyder throws in jokes too but at least he and his band have real instrumental talent. (Mike is actually a national banjo champion.) To each his own but anyone who plays music or spends time around good musicians sees Goldwing for what they are.
All true, but the show counts for a lot. This is an entertainment biz, after all, and Goldwing gives their non-pickin' fans exactly what they're looking for. There used to be a lot of 'show' on bluegrass stages, but most of that has died away.
I'm going to have to disagree. The humor may be corny, and the aesthetic may be distastefull, but the musicianship seems top notch. These are very talented musicians with a different attitude about what constitutes "good" bluegrass music. I don't think I like it that much, but it certainly comes out of a legitimate Bluegrass tradition. Kind of like the Osborne Brothers or someone like that. They play to a very arcane audience now mostly ignored.
Wow, thats pretty harsh. You musta been a Goldwing member that got cut. Anyway, I saw them in Denton NC, and thought they were a great band and put on great show. They certainly didn't come off as a band that is trying to fool anybody! Where is all the hate coming from?
I was in Denton too, actually I was JUSt there to see this band, haha! ! I absolutely love them so much! I actually have some footage uploaded onto my channel from Denton! As Logan & Steve posted on this video, they were working on getting "good quality video clips" up on here, well I'm the one workin' on that for Steve, so check out my page!!!
LOL! Think what you want. They're more a comedy act than anything. If that's what someone wants (and that's fine), then he'll enjoy the show. If someone is looking for strong musicianship and vocals, these guys are way down on the list of bands to see.
What I don't understand is how are they playing so many Bluegrass Festivals if they're more a comedy act than anything else?
I also think they deserve so much more credit than they are getting as a Bluegrass Band. I'd much rather see their shows b/c it's not boring, I've found myself to become easily bored with a lot of the "headlining bands" these days.
@jocwalk If they are so bad as musicians they would NOT be makin' a career out of playing music, I also have you know they've won multiple awards, but to them it's not about how many trophies they can win, it's about how many people they make happy & have a good time at their shows & clearly it's workin' for them quite well.
