  • Thanks Buddy it's worked, dear what should I do .bat file and new .sys file created with new date.

    Regards

    Nadeem

  • Thank you so much. :D:D:D

  • You're the best!

  • How do you do that with a vista...I dont see the Tools ?

  • Thank You Soooo much. It worked!!!

    click 'apply' then 'ok'

double click the D: (recovery partition)

look for 'HPCD.sys' and right click

  • hi king13p

look i have installed two windows on my pc

one is vista basic and another is ultimate

vista basic is the window which came with my computer and has a recovery partition

now when i enter thru ma vista basic and on organise-folder and search options-views-there i cant find the option show hidden files and folders

so to do this i logged in through windows ultimate and there i was able to see that option

i did the same changes as suggested by you in the video

    and then i got error

  • after i renames both files .bat and after making the recovery discs do I make the hpcd files back to .sys

  • you'll find that after your done the program renames them back to .sys

  • Dude, I have a gateway but I'm trying to make a copy of my HP Windows XP CD. Is it possible to do so?

  • The easiest method is to copy the files from the first set into some where into your hard drive (enable "show hidden folders options" there are some files that are hidden when you make a recovery disk...This is how Ive done it many times...make an iso of the cd's and burn them with sime software.

  • After reading the comments I think the recovery partition on my computer is maybe corrupt, but I can access system recovery partition pressing f10 on computer brand splash screen, there I can do a destructive recovery, other types of recovery etc. so maybe its not? But if it got corrupt and I was not able to access it and perform a recovery from it I would be doomed because i didnt finish first set of cds! I would lose all my data so thats why i need a 2nd set! I am not computer savvy at all!

  • Heres my thought on it, You should try the destructive recovery. There if it works, I THINK maybe what might happen is that the recovery partition might get restored also. Its a maybe. I have a new video coming up real soon, I've been pretty busy lately. The new video is almost done. I just need to edit it together. If you can spare a few more days I will post it when I get it done. Len

  • i forgot to mention that in folder options i think i have everything right. I have show hidden files and folders enabled. i have hide extensions for known file types and hide protected os files unchecked. I did notice that yours says "HP CD Recovery Creator" and mine says "Compaq CD Recovery..." even though its HP/compaq. There may be slight differences between them although i did not notice any differences in folder names etc. Thanks so much for trying to help me Lenny.

  • i renamed HPCD.bat back to HPCD.sys PRESARIO_RP (D:) then copied it to SMINST folder. Closed out of them both and went into Recovery CD Creator and i got back the original error message about a set of recovery discs have already been created and that only one set is allowed. I went back into D: and renamed HPCD.sys to HPCD.bat and same in SMINST folder. I went into Recovery CD Creator abd i got again "No valid boot image found in recovery partition".

  • oh, i meant to go into the sminst folder and copy that hpcd.sys into the D: partition. be sure to make backups and restore stuff after you have done them, I don't spose you live in minnesota do ya? I could probably help you out in person. I'm gonna check something on my computer in the next hour and I'll send another message back with another idea.

  • is there a possibility...

i can create a set of recovery discs on my OLD computer.

and transfer it to my NEW custom computer, that needs a new O/S disc?

in other words, im trying to get windows xp on my brand new computer without actually buying a windows xp disc

  • you could probably do that, most of your drivers though won't be the same however, you can find them on the net.

  • If anybody wants a video tutorial on anything let me know, I wanna create one soon on my time off from school, let me know asap before my breaks over, it can be Mac or PC. this no valid boot image seems to be a hot topic however I haven't had it happen to me so it could be hard to make a video on it.

  • When i click into Compaq Recovery CD/DVD Creator the error "No valid boot image found in Recovery Partition" comes up. Its so annoying! What does it mean anyway. I only have a very basic knowledge of computers. Does anyone know a fix to get rid of error and make it workto work? If anyone knows how to fix this please please please post it!! I'd be so grateful.

  • open up my computer, do you see a Recovery Drive, I think its usually D:/ but it should be in your list of hard drives, Right click on it and hit explorer, do you see anything, if you don't see the drive or you don't see anything within the Drive then you can't create another copy, since there is nothing to create a copy from, which would mean previously that someone deleted the partition or stuff in the partition. :(

  • sorry hide extensions for known files was enabled. i disabled it and now says .sys at end of them. it says HPCD.bat.sys now. i removed the .sys and now changed into a wheel in both and says its an ms-dos batch file 1KB just like it showed on your video. i went into compaq recovery dvd creator but still got error no valid boot image found in recovery partition. i click ok and it still tells me that it could not create a set of recovery discs and tells me to order from support! no thankyou! help?

  • try rename it back to .sys. then see what it says, then go into the windows folder, and the SMINST folder, (w/e I said in the video) and copy that hpcd.sys over the one in the recovery, (be sure to back up the one in the recovery just in case!) then rename it to .bat. see what happens

  • My computer is a HP/compaq. in D: it is called HPCD not HPCD.sys. I renamed it anyway adding .bat at the end. in SMINST it was also called HPCD not HPCD.sys but i renamed that too adding .bat at the end. i went into compaq recovery cd/dvd creator and got an error saying no valid boot image found in recovery partion. i could not create any next was blanked out. does ANYONE know how to get this to work on a compaq? ie. find boot image, rename any file, folder, edit registy etc to get this to work?

  • did you turn off hide extensions for known files?

  • This has to be said.. ou, my friend, are an absolute LEGEND. Because you made this video it saved me €160 and that's no exageration!

    Thanks a million!!! 5/5

  • well, my case is slightly different. I am able to find hpcd.sys on my HP_RECOVERY drive but it is not anywhere in C:\windows\sminst\ i've searched the entire pc, and nothing. i tried erasing/renaming just the one HP_RECOVERY drive but i get "No recovery partition found. process aborted", any solutions for me??? Am I doomed???

  • you erased the partition? then your doomed,

  • Whats the name of the theme ?

can somebody send me a message with the name and download link of this theme ?

  • just a question..did u burn the disk on DVD or CD? cause as i saw the comment here they say that it stop on disc 5.so i try this hax and saw i can burn a 4 disc dvd and 20 CD.

  • well I did the DVDs, much faster, don't have to sit there as much switching discs. The CD's are generally for people who don't have a dvd writer. so its still up to you though, I've heard some people have trouble with creating all the CD's though, I've done DVDs successfully

  • plz help me... so when i dwnld ophcrack do i need to dwnld on dvd..? everything is locked n when i try to dwnld it on this comp it says i need the administ password then it says it has expierd....what d i do to recover my administ pass.. ive tried cmd iv tried dwnld the disk on someone elses comp nothing works....

  • please lenny do a lesson on vista

  • Unfortuneatly I don't have a vista computer with a recovery partition. it shouldn't be too much different, Try google search w/e problem your having, I'm sure you'll find it.

  • I did the 5th one twice and when I came back to it later it still said the 5th one was next. I thought maybe I could go back in & make changes to the Recovery drive and go back in & do DVD's. But a msg pops up saying I cannot go to Recovery D.

  • what does it say when it comes to that point?

  • Thanks for the video. I had to create my restore disks on CD's. It got to the 5th CD and ten wouldn't let me go any further. Any suggestions?

  • can any one send me the program for hp restore cd creator plz any one beause my comouetr keeps freezing :(

  • THANKS LENNY! This video saved me tons of hassle. :)

  • thank yo so much. i cant believe how easy it was. you are amazing!!!!!!!

    thank you.

  • fantastic....made my day

  • Or if you already burned it, insert that disk and then make an iso image out of it. So When you need copy for your friends, you lost it or something, you can just burn them using your favourite apps.

  • you mean this video show me i can make a copy of windows xp ??? i don't understand what good this is for me ???

  • i dont have the hpcd.sys all i have is hpcd in both files

  • open up an explorer window, then go to Tools Folder Options View Tab Uncheck Hide Extensions for Known file types, Radio button Show Hidden Files and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files

  • you have to enable the extensions. should be the first step

  • Worked like a charm thank you. I have vista home premium and like a pervious comment said just do the first sile rename and you are good to go...... Now to make 1,000,000,000 copies and send them to hp to make them mad mwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...................................

  • No valid boot image found in recovery partition is all i et can u help me out what does this mean and how do i fix it i need your help the force is with you

  • go to my computer then click on your recovery partition, do you see everything that should be there? i386 folder etc. Your error is saying that it can't find a valid copy of windows in that partition so maybe try changing that hp.sys in the recovery partition back to whatever it was before. give it a shot. also comment back everything in your recovery partition.

  • Hey that was a great trick man.........I did not find the second HPCD.sys file in Vista Home Basic version but renaming 1 file was enough...... But that was a really great trick. It helped me a lot.......

    Thanks a bunch.........

  • I could not found the file HPCD.sys.

    What should i do now.

  • Thanks for this tip, it works perfectly, I did this with a newer Vista based HP machine, however the second file that you renamed was nowhere to be found on my machine, but it still worked with just renaming the first file, cheers.

  • My recovery partition was formatted.

So i purchased a new recovery discs.

    My recovery partition is empty.

Can you tell me how to make a recovery partition with those recovery discs which i purchased.

So, i want to make again a recovery partition with the recovery discs

    PLEASE HELP ME....

  • Yeah, I don't know if you can do that.

Why don't you just keep your disks safe

and just recover using the disks?

  • Yes, I can do like that also but it would be very nice if you help me.

I know you are a genius please try

  • Do you still have the recovery partition on your drive just with nothing in it or has that been deleted also?

  • Wait a sec, I've already done this on my computer. and its pretty cool and easy. I was going to make a tutorial on it but I've been busy with school. I would say back everything up and do a complete restore, You need Partition Magic or something to create a partition. After you restored windows then add some of your favorite programs that you know you will always use, (itunes, firefox, w/e) Now you can back everything up to that partition once you created it and if you ever have trouble just

  • you would just restore using that recovery partition. to make a exact backup of what you have right now you would go to Start Programs Accesories System Tools then Backup. I would do a full backup. Find out how much space it would take then create the partition on your hard drive for a little bit more then the space required and then back it up to that partition. I will try and Make a tutorial for such in the next few weeks I'll be done with school and will have more time. Good Luck

  • Can you make a video and put it on youtube.

    Give me the videos link

    Pleaseeee....

  • Yes, I have the recovery partition formatted and empty in My Computer

  • Give me a week or two, I'm just finishing up my finals this week and I will eventually have to do this for a new computer I'm getting from my brother. I'll repost the link once I get it up. Thanks

  • Thank you very very much in advance.

  • You are Genius. Few months ago I bought a new HP Laptop, and by mistake created a Recovery DVD on a poor quality DVD , which I ever regreted, Because i was not able to make another Recovery DVD i came across this video, and it worked like a charm, only thing to add...In vista, you just have to change in first step, and not to rename in Windows folder. It workes changing the name of file in first step.

Thanks a million You are super

  • Your Welcome

  • can u make a tutorial about hp cd recover for viista

  • Thankyou this information was very helpful!

  • there is no hpcd on it -.- what can i do

and i dont found the thing to show hide folders plz help me

  • To see hidden folders in windows XP go to Tools in an explorer window, Folder Options, Click the View Tab, You should see Hidden Files and Folders, Click Show Hidden Files and Folders, I would also uncheck hide operating system files and uncheck hide extensions for known file types.

  • thats for vista~'^?

  • Is it a HP you have? if so then you can do the exact same thing with Vista. it should be somewhere in the same area as what I have told you, but not too sure because I don't use Vista.

  • Buy the HP recovery disk creator rarely works

  • good job 10+

  • Hi, i made my recovery dvds when i first got my pc a couple of years ago, i then deleted my recovery partition. When i try doing what you say i get this error message: No valid boot image found in recovery partition. Can you help me? Thanks..

  • Yeah, if you deleted the partition then you won't be able to make another set of dvds. If yo u don't have your other dvds anymore, you have 2 options, You can call the company who makes your PC (HP, Dell, Gateway) and ask for a set of disks. I had to do this a while back, I think it cost me like $22 but sometimes they could be free. OR you can search on the internet for a site that shows you how to create a bootable XP disk just using the C:/ Drive, I'm not sure how to do it though. just google
