I agree that Lara had huge periods of bad form and could be quite inconsistent but,how many batting greats have had to perform in a team such as the WI(during the majority of Lara's years)? How much better would his stats have been if he had the support of all those other players Ponting had or even Sachin? Do you know that over his career he produced 20% of the WI runs? Stats matter but circumstances do as well. How would others have fared?

You instead compare them to batsmen around them at the time when they were playing. For example you would compare Lara to guys like Tendulkar and Ponting, however you would compare Bradman to his fellow batsmen in the 1930s. You then see how far ahead they are then to determine how good they are. Lara is nowhere near as far ahead as Bradman was against his colleagues.

When Bradman played there were 8 ball overs and much larger grounds to start with. They did not have covers to the pitches, meaning in almost every England Test match the pitch would get wet and turn into a 'sticky wicket'. To counter this they even reversed their batting line-up to let tailenders block out the hard period and the batsmen free score off the easier period. How bout we get started on the bats? They were less effective than hockey sticks. Just planks of wood without even a middle.

Try facing that on very hard batting pitches without a helmet, just pads and very thin gloves. If you have ever faced a ball at even 120 you would be surprised at how quick it is, less than .2 of a second to make a decision and .4 to react.

Ponting score 1000 runs in a calendar year FIVE years in a row, the second only person to do that after Matthew Hayden. Ponting doesn't have bad form longevity. In his worst series, he still scores a century in most of them on at least one occasion.

Yes i think Brian Lara is a better player compared to Sachin Tendulkar. Lara made his debut an year later but was still over 1000 runs ahead of sachin. So had lara played for 20 yrs, then he would have been the best batsman and would have been the leading run scorer. Sachin should now retire from International cricket. He plays only for his records.

Gary Sobers and that Indian (Ravi Shastri to be precise) hit 36 in an over respectively in a FIRST class match not in test match. Gibbs hit 6 sixes in an ODI in 2007 Worldcup. Yuvraj Singh hit 36 against Stuart Broad in 20/20 too. No one in test ever hit 6 sixes in a test match so far. You should understand the difference between ODI, T/20, First Class and Test Cricket mate.
