But then you need to either pay some extra cash (about 2 grand) for a lift kit or you can just do a bastard pack and redneck lift from the junkyard. But the XJs that go for around 200 usually have 200k or so miles and are beginning to get some rust...the 15-20 grand was my estimate for a newish one with a lift and all of that. Trust me, you can get them much cheaper

h2 and h3 if you take the body off the h2 it has the chassis and engine of a shity chevy tahoe and the h3 chassis and engine is from another chevy but the h1 is fully hummer built no shity chevy v8, 6.6 litre DMAX turbo diesel, and a hummer chassis the h1 is great the h2 and h3 are shit

I have a jeep and they are bad ass. But thats not a military hummer. A military hummer with a diesel engine inflatable from cab tires and true independent axels will go through anything a jeep will and arguably more....I drove one in 1st Cav . The H2 and H3 are not real Hummers. They are actually built in cooperation with AM General (who made the original H1 Hummer) on GM truck chassis, which are not really meant to do this kind of stuff. The original H1 would have no problem at all going through that water and I would bet it would be able to pull that tiny V6 gasoline jeep into the lake too. All the Hummer H1 haters seem to forget the H1 was built for the US Military.

H2s suck. H3s are OK if you set them up right as they can accept good sized tires without lifts. H1s are only good if you can get a soft top military version (HMMWV). They're not near as heavy as civilian H1s.  When I was deployed, we had M998s with just the soft roof and they were a riot to zip around in. I drive a 97 Cherokee 5-speed. It's very light.

Not saying they can't but my friend owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler (Supposedly the toughest and highest towing capability: as said my Jeeps CEO) It couldn't pull a 97 tahoe out of mud, so sure if you wanna craw half a mle per hour up a mountain sure get a jeep.

Hummer H2's were built on the Chevy Suburban platform, and when's the last time you saw a Suburban off-roading? H2's are designed from the body up to look rugged and like they're meant for off-road, but from the frame down, it's a Suburban.

ALSO* in my opinion most vehicles past 2000 are garbage. mass produced and quickly assembled. Now adays its about bottom line rather then quality. Take the good ol inline 6. These engines will not blow...Ive tried. You can redline them for an hour. These engines still run brandnew today and thats why Jeep replaced them with the 3.7 l in the crappy Liberty. Thumbs up to the lads and ladies keepin the real vehicles alive( pre 2000) all my opinion*
