  • I remember having that set and that game when I was a little kid. Probably that little girl's age.

  • Notice how in the commercial the ghosts don't flicker. False advertising!

  • he was staring at her budding breasts, too.

  • The old man is like, I remember when you could buy a Hershey bar and a Coke for a nickel.

  • 'Those are 'supposed' to be the ghosts!"

  • This version of Pac-Man may have sucked but I still played it for countless hours in the 80's. I just hooked my old Atari up in the garage a few months back. The consule and every game still work like theyre brand new.

  • wow thoose were the days

  • AW, Mr. I was a kid. Thanks for posting this!!

  • Poor Mr Hooper RIP

  • Nope Never

  • Atari translates literately as, "prepare to be attacked"

  • @WKRPinCINN

    In which language?

  • @MrCorporalTunnel - Hebrew

  • Is the grand pa here played by Mr. Hooper from sesamestreet? He looks kinna like him.

  • @binturong1000 Yep, that's Mr. Hooper. His real name was Will Lee.

  • you think the kid looks like a boy?

  • @chism26 can you please stop commenting?

  • Pit Fall harry sucked

  • that tank game had two our three names actuley

  • the worst game ever was a game caled Custers Revenge

  • actuley the best game on the Atari was Cristal Castle

  • Lol, the Pac-Man port for 2600 was ranked on the top ten WORST games ever list XD

  • @xsnrgman Yeah! That was a great game. Too bad there's no single player mode though.... Or is there?

  • The old man's like, "I've seen better cave drawings."

  • love pacman, atari forever <3<3<3

  • The best game for the Atari 2600 was where two players play Tank. I think that was the name of it. If you moved around to the rear of another tank when it was moving the tanks would spin all over the screen. Old school glitching.

  • @xsnrgman It was called Combat. And it came with the system from 1977-1982

  • @TeamRocketReviews Yes! One of the earliest video games I can remember that was 2 players. It set the standard for multiplayer games to come.

  • PAC MAN?

    Whos' he?

    LOLOLOL

    XD

  • So THAT was how Mr. Hooper died, he saw the 2600 version of Pac Man!

  • @Akira625 Yeah it was so terrible it would be hard to forget that game.

  • I bet this is the same Mr Hooper from Sesame Street. Am I right?

  • Next to when my grandmother got hit by a tow truck, opening up this video game was the worst day of my life. What a disappointment this game was on Atari. I stole $5 of my mother's money so I could play the game in the arcade again.

  • She looks like Henry Thomas...

  • I love how they advertise that you have to buy it seperately, rather than just noting it at the end

  • WILL THE BOY IS A GIRL

  • OMFG! I cant wait till came out! When it cames out? -30 years

  • I actually agree with genesislordofdarknes. In my opinion, the Pac-Man Atari game was the worst-looking Atari game I have ever seen. I used to hate it so much, I would want to go to the arcade and play real Pac-Man. Lucky for me, I had Ms. Pac-Man for my Atari, which was a lot better.

  • Even back in the 70s, videogames were perceived as a "kid" thing...

  • Grandpa - Fuck this shit. Get your coat on. Were going down to the arcade to play some real pacman!

  • That old man is dead!

  • Stick with her, you'll get the hang of it. Or have an aneurysm.

  • Poor Mr. Hooper, he was the original Rodney Dangerfield, he didn't get no respect.

  • this game was so bad it killed poor Mr. Hooper.

  • if i was mr.hooper i would be like tell me this game sucks and go away

  • Pac Man

  • MR HOOPER THE OLD MAN ?

  • cute kid

  • That girl probably watched this in the 21st century, and went: "Did they pay me overtime for this?"

  • I'm laughing cause the grandpa is probably dead by now. jk

  • @jinpayne Ironically he died in 1982 probably shortly after this commercial was made. His name was Will Lee and he played Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street from 1969-1982

  • i love it how it says "Mr. Hooper" on the title, and "Mr. Looper" in the description. LOL

  • @LOTO202 that's because that's what ernie (or was it grover?) called him. that's mr hooper from sesame street.

  • @glamiss It was actually what Big Bird called him. Big Bird never got his name right.

  • Nice try, Mr. Looper!

  • Mr. Hooper's parents have to hook it up to the t.v.? How old are they? 110?

  • Lol, that guy is dead now.

  • @Kenkas15 yeah. i remember when they aired that episode on Sesame Street, when mr 'looper' died. back in the late 80s i think.

  • the good thing about atari 2600 it had a tv hook up builded in instead of having it seprate from the sytem

  • Yeah, the Atari version of Pac-Man was pretty terrible.

  • damn its mr hooper!

  • i like how they barely show close ups of the game, they knew it was a piece of shit

  • I'd like to file a lawsuit for false advertisement - this ad made the Atari 2600 versoin of Pacman look PLAYABLE, which is clearly not true in reality!

  • @JasanQuinn Don't have to worry. You wouldn't get anything anyway. They are flat broke! R.I.P. Atari!

  • @JasanQuinn Try ET for the 2600 , now THAT was a complete abortion !

  • ya kid,you stick with your grandpa and enjoy your boring selfs..while i play with my XBox360 and Playstation 3 games...oh and if ever get bored go and play with Transformers then work yourself up to Nintendo and then in 5 years you should be up to speed...i think lol

  • @JaminHell Jesus Christ.... Those big budget shooters suck

Xbox is a cheaply made system and I got a red ring of death in 3 months.

Atari 2600 had - Space invaders, Adventure, Haunted house, Demons to diamonds, and more

Most american games now are original shit.

  • gramps then said wtf, this is nothing you should check out my wii

  • Thumbs if you thought the 5 year old was a boy :P

  • @Frogster7 It's NOT?

  • @Frogster7 Oh gosh I'm gonna die.

  • @Frogster7 he's not

  • Why did Atari do all these family commercials? The way I remember it, my grandparents' reaction to Atari was about the same as their reaction to Ozzy Osbourne. The Atari cartridge might as well have been biting a chicken's head off.

However, have you seen those cool Japanese Famicom commercials where the nerdy dad and the little daughter are playing video games? And then the one freaks out whenever the other wins? Those are righteous.

  • such a basic commercial for a crappy game thumbs up if you agree!

  • wow a grand father playing video games never thought id see that

  • テレビとの距離が近過ぎるな。近眼になるぞ。

  • I totally remember this commercial!

I never realized it was Mr. Hooper. Cool!

  • What's with the " You must buy seperately" thing on all of the Atari commercials?

  • Screw Halo Reach.... NAAAAA just kidding.

  • This is how the media views the general video game audience. Which is why they hate adult themed games

  • those are SUPPOSED to be the ghosts after pac man

  • HOOPER, HOOPER!!! lol

  • Grandpa should of said what the fuck is Pac-Man?

  • No! Way! You own a Atari 2600 video game system? Your parents must be-$-Rich!-(lol!)

  • Wow! I had no idea that Mr. Hooper did anything outside of Sesame Street.

Back in the day, good graphics & sound were too expensive to put in a home console, so that's why you get a Pac-man game with flickering ghosts, (displaying one ghost at a time) and cheesy beeping sounds for the "chomping." Since an arcade game cost at least $2000 new, it could be made with more memory (64K instead of only 4K), hi-res graphics with more pixels so everything doesn't look blocky, and better sound.

  • Big Bird:: Hello Mr. Looper!

    Mr. Hooper:: Hooper! Hooper!

  • Comment removed

  • Mr. Hopper purposely failed at PAC-MAN. If you notice at 0:19, he moved back to get hit by the ghost. Shit acting, shit port of a great game in the first place.

  • NO FAIR! The ghosts in their version don't flicker!

They also sit 4 inches a way from their TV.

  • Comment removed

  • On CRTs the flicker is not nearly as obvious as on LCD screens (it's about the redraw time)

  • @DarkLinkSkywalker Thats because the game is being played on a CRT. Not an emulator where the programmers tricks of displaying the ghosts don't work

  • Atari thought they could slap the name Pac-Man on crap and it would sell.

  • I wonder if she was forced to keep her and grandpa's little secret from mommy and daddy to get an E.T. cartridge also. Bad Mr. Hooper, bad.

  • Most of u are morons making stupid comments about mr hooper being an old fart and about pac man. this game was a classic when it first came out

  • @noreaga12326 Okay, I stand corrected...you were 7 and not 5. Look foolio. I never said PAC MAN wasn't classic. Of course it was! I am saying the ATARI VERSION sucked. Get it??? The Atari version was absolutely terrible. The documented stories tell how programmers had to write the code in literally 2 weeks. And it shows! So before YOU start shooting off your pie hole, read my posts more thoroughly. Pinhead.

  • @GreekGuy9999 awww are u having a bad day??? look old man, compared to the technology we have today, of course Atari NOW sucks. back then, when atari 1st came out, many ppl were excited about being able to play a game on their own tv. Maybe u think it was terrible because ur mommy never allowed u to play it during ur childhood. have a great day old geezer and please dont catch a heart attack reading my post :-D

  • @noreaga12326 Wow... you are obtuse.

AGAIN... I am saying there were great games on Atari. Pac Man was one of the awful ones. What can't you understand about that?

Oh forget. You're just a first class ass with shit for brains.

Signed...your grampa. And your gramma says you're a dumbass too!

  • @GreekGuy9999 lol dude and AGAIN i'm telling u, that NOW atari version of pac man wouldnt mean anything to you or anyone NOW because we didnt have the technology of games we do now. Back then, "TO ME" it was cool. As i said b4, u thought the atari version sucked and thats YOUR opinion. How pathetic that ur an old 42 year old man and u stoop to name calling when someone disagrees with you. u may wana call the doctor b4 your heart gives out on u again old man

  • @noreaga12326 Makes no difference whether it was now or then, the game sucked then and it sucks now. I feel bad for you since it is OBVIOUS you were deprived of better Atari games and had to endure guano like Pac Man for Atari. Your folks should be brought up on child abuse charges for the systematic programming they did to you actually making you think the game was worth any type of accolades. You DO realize that you are one out of say a million that actually think it was good, right?

  • @GreekGuy9999 lol i was deprived?? how so?? pac- man wasnt the only game i had on atari. look at that long post. its OBVIOUS that im starting to get to you with my posts. i'l ease off on u, old man. i dont want u to catch a stroke on my behalf.

  • @noreaga12326 If you thought Pac Man was good AND you had other Atari games, you must have had a library that had such gems as E.T. and Cosmic Combat. Tsk Tsk. You poor soul.

  • @GreekGuy9999 i have all atari2600 games, and pacman wasn't that fucking bad. shit, it was free for one, and two, even though the graphics weren't all that great, it was better then dumping a quarter into somebody else's video game. the end.

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII Unlike you, I would rather have NO sex than BAD sex. Unlike you also, I PAID $40 for Atari Pac Man as they only offered it for free after the damn thing TANKED. Why do YOU think they started giving it away with the system? Because it was absolutely stellar? No because it was SH-ITE. And no, it wasn't worth not dumping a quarter into another game because what you got at home was something this side of pong with a maze. Wank wank wank vs wank oh yeah..good times!

  • @GreekGuy9999 unlike you, i don't give a flying fistfuck what you think idiot. lol. "I" THINK PACMAN WAS DECENT ENOUGH AND FREE. I think i posted that the last time, snapperhead. But I admit, I'd rather dump a quarter in a video game than your sister-the dimestore slut. =)

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII You know those herpes sores you have were free too. Guess you like anything as long as it's free. And as for my sister being a dime store slut, that still has no bearing upon the game sucking wind.

As heard in Atari Pac Man: wank wank wank wank wank wank wank. NO wonder you dug it...there was a lot of wanking going on in YOUR living room.

  • I wish games were like this today.Who gives a fuck about graphics.I just care about how fun the game is.

  • it actually wasnt a horrible game

  • @Roflmafao

the hell it wasnt.... im a pacman fan and that was the worst pacman game ever!

  • @Roflmafao This was the SHITTIEST game next to E.T. Are you HIGH?

  • @GreekGuy9999 this isnt the 2nd worst game of all time... try big rigs, cosmic race, or extreme paintbrawl u should think dumbass

  • @GreekGuy9999 i think you're the one whos high. this game was a CLASSIC back in the day.

  • @noreaga12326 Dude, you obviously were about 5 years old when this game came out because even my 14 year old brain knew this game was King of Lame. I ended up trading it 2 weeks later for a Habitrail for my hamsters. I mastered the whole game in about 3 hours and even found its tunnel bug in about 45 minutes. This could not hold a match to Pitfall, Enduro, Adventure, Missile Command, Yar's Revenge, and many more. Classic? Classicly craptacular is more like it.

  • @GreekGuy9999 lol u truly are a moron. 1st off, how would u know how old i was when this game came out?? b4 u start playing guessing games, think b4 u post. sure, i was a kid when the game 1st came out but i was old enough to remember clear enough when the game came out. you're entitled to your opinion just like i am. pac-man was and always will be a classic. think about this, if pac-man wasnt a classic game, google wouldnt be celebrating its anniversary like it did a few months back.

  • The little girl looks like a young Alyssa Milano..lol

Old Gramps is probably dead now :(

  • I wonder how much Atari had to pay the grandpa to act like Pac-Man on the 2600 was fun.

  • The most stupid commercial ever. Its like "This is the atari 2600... this is pacman.. the cartridge is sold seperate... you plug the atari 2600 to your tv" so stupid

  • @MrVideoGameMAN2012

The ad was directed toward old farts like Mr. Hooper here, who had NO CLUE about video games, computers, calculators or anything like that. "Jenni wants a Pacmin - what's a Pacmin? I've got to buy what for the Pacmin to work? My father was at Gettysburg fighting for THIS? Oi vey..."

  • The Grandpa must be long gone by now :)

  • BRBBRBBRBBRB just doesnt sound the same as WAKAWAKAWAK does it?

  • Those are supposed to be the ghosts, after PAC-MAN! *gasp* Watch out Grandpa! Ah, stick with me, you'll get the hang of it.

  • Lol, that girl: "Those are supposed to be the ghosts, after Pac-Man!"

Indeed they are SUPPOSED to be the ghosts after Pac-Man. However, the game desingers(looking at you Tod Frye) where so lazy that the released a prototype!!

That's what you see on the tv. The prototype!

  • Wow! Mr. Hooper(Will Lee) was also on a Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 commercial. According to my recollection, he he also on a cranberry juice commercial during the mid 1970s.

  • My Father worked for Activision(:

  • i think grandpa was like: "wtf is this bullshit..let me get a handjob from maria!"

  • "....Have you played Arari Today?"

    Memories...

  • You have to buy it seperatley and your parents plug it in.

    *Facepalm*

  • game looks like a peice a shit

  • that's a weird looking plug

  • "Stick with me, you'll get the hang of it." Little shit brat. Grandpa lived thru the Great Depression, eating shoe leather and pissing in alleyways. Shove your stupid game, little girl.

  • @kevchod lol

  • Mr. Hooper like played on Sesamee Street before he died. And in a Pac-Man comercail

  • If i have to have a 5 year old tell me "stick with me you will get it" I think ill be done playing games at that point.

  • @FreeLanceArizona Amen.. Might be more done then just games... ROFL

  • R.I.P. Will "Mr. Hooper" Lee.

  • Grandpa, you wonna play beat em and eat em?

  • @Zolega89 LOL

Imagine if Mystique's porn games had ads for them.

Kid 1: Grandpa thats Custer with the large pee pee.

  • @Dakkiller1 XD

  • Your parents hook it up to the TV. (Displays plug) makes me #LOL People were stupid back then...?

  • @ridepovproductions

    No, people are stupid now.

  • I love Mr. Hooper's expression at about 0:8, hes like, "oh shit, its that fucking game!!!" LMAO!!!!!!

  • Those are 'supposed' to be the ghosts, after (who's supposed to be) Pac-Man. Worst. Arcade-to-Home Conversion. Ever.

  • even grandpa knew that the atari 2600 pac man sucks ass

  • Today is like the exact opposite of this comericial lol.

  • And Gramps would smack that girl upside the head telling her, that is not pacman, but a piece of shit clone that calls itself Pacman

  • You have to mention "sold separately" over and over because people back then were that stupid.

  • This Pac-Man was such an epic fail.

  • Mr. Hooper sells Atari.

  • RIP Will Lee

  • retarded

  • Why Frye?

  • I thought Pac-Man came with the 2600?

  • @Qwack79 no 5200

  • Still waiting for atari to come out with a new console...............

  • I'm going to build me own toliet one day

  • I think Mr. Hopper had a heart attack of playing this bad game for an hour. :P

  • I would've only given him 15 minutes!

  • Or maybe given him a minute. :P

  • Those "Susposed" to be the ghosts.I know Atari couldn't handle many moving objects but I think the Controls are messed up on this thing.

  • Wow, I miss Mr. Hooper. after, seeing the adults telll Big Bird about him not coming back it made miss him even more.

  • The grandpa is like: ''THIS GAME FUCKING SUX BALLS!!!''

  • well the game sux balls!

    So he is wright!

  • those are suppost to be ghosts... w.t.f?

  • you have to buy it sepprately...your parents have too hook it up AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

  • So now the truth comes out. Atari 2600 Pac-Man is what killed Mr. Hooper! Dammit, I knew the game was bad, but this.... :P

True story: the day 2600 Pac-Man was released to stores, it was the top story on the local news. Pac-Man Day. It was a highly anticipated event, because Pac-Man was so enormously popular. We kids were....well, a bit disappointed. You can see for yourself.

  • After playing this game, Mr. Hooper was so depressed that hanged himself on a street post in front of his store. Atari denied any wrongdoing in connection with his suicide.

  • 0:09

    :O

    lol xD

  • i remember havin this and that game too along with donkey kong, pole position and others...i remember going to a yard sale one day as a kid and some lady was sellin old 2600 games for a dollar each!!!! i bought like 25 of them it was unbelievable....got alot of classics...dont ever remember what happened to them tho...too long ago

  • "Dont worry grandpa! stick with me. You'll get the hang of it!" LOL!!!

  • Pac man? whos he? LOL

  • Don't laugh, my parent's asked me the same thing. Heh heh heh.

  • Oh God

  • ha "those are supposed to be the ghosts!" as in, "you know how on the upright arcade machine the ghosts come in four colors and have shifty eyes? yeah, well, these jellyfish blobs are supposed to be them"

  • Hey sosaix don't you mean Mr Hooper? lol

  • I want a atari video computer system!

  • I remember buying this with my Xmas money in 1982 and feeling totally f*cked when I got home and tried it out!

The 2600 Ms. Pac-Man was much improved!

  • Lol. The footage of the game in the commercial is better than the game in real life. The real game has a REALLY bad flikering problem with the ghosts.
