Trial By Fire was first played live by Jefferson Airplane in 7/72 at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA. The final time played was 9/22/72, Winterland, SF....Hot Tuna played it once on 9/2/89 at the Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ.
Trial By Fire (Jorma vocals) was also played live before the Sessions, on 1/21/72-3/1/72 at Capitol Theatre, Portchester, NY (David Frieberg's first show).
This version is much better than the Long John Silver version as it features Papa John on fiddle. I have seen footage of this song with Papa John on VH1...does anyone know where this footage was from or where to obtain a copy???
don't try to tell me who i am when you don't know yourself....ooohh hay-yull yes !!

Ohhh Yes... With Papa John Creech playing violin. Not that I want to do the early 70s again, but this song is compelling as bloody hell.

Great, great song. Not so well known. Thank you for posting it. I saw Hot Tuna in '76 and screamed for this-- and they played it. Whoo Hoo!

I can't believe I foind this. A classic song, one of their best (Ms. Slick is about 14 years older than I). Great, hardcore stuff.
Thank you.

@louser777 I loved both bands but listening to this album now that I'm older I noticed this is much more a Tuna sound than The Airplane.
