  • don't try to tell me who i am when you don't know yourself....ooohh hay-yull yes !!

  • This album took "Bark" and "Long John Silver" to an echoing new dimension!

  • Thank you Thank you! One of my favorite albums from when I was a kid!

  • Ohhh Yes... With Papa John Creech playing violin. Not that I want to do the early 70s again, but this song is compelling as bloody hell.

  • Lying on the floor with a hole in my face and a ten gauge shotgun at my head...

  • The flying Toasters pretty much says it all!

  • Trial By Fire Sessions from Take Me To A Circus Tent:The Jefferson Airplane Flight Manual by Craig Fenton

  • Trial By Fire was first played live by Jefferson Airplane in 7/72 at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA. The final time played was 9/22/72, Winterland, SF....Hot Tuna played it once on 9/2/89 at the Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ.

Trial By Fire (Jorma vocals) was also played live before the Sessions, on 1/21/72-3/1/72 at Capitol Theatre, Portchester, NY (David Frieberg's first show).

  • Yeah, but with Papa John! What a band!

  • Great, great song. Not so well known. Thank you for posting it. I saw Hot Tuna in '76 and screamed for this-- and they played it. Whoo Hoo!

  • always loved this song

  • I have this album in mint condition. Loved it fom day one way back in the day. :--)

  • I love Papa John on this album.

  • Jack is just the shit ...listen to that bass.

  • I can't believe I foind this. A classic song, one of their best (Ms. Slick is about 14 years older than I). Great, hardcore stuff.

    Thank you.

  • This album is Hot Tuna already with guests Grace Slick & Paul Kanter.

  • @melvyd2 you nailed it!

  • @louser777 I loved both bands but listening to this album now that I'm older I noticed this is much more a Tuna sound than The Airplane.

  • @melvyd2 you're right, my friend

  • A great tune to take down the highway!

  • The Winged Toaster says: a wise man knows which side his toast is buttered on!

  • This album cover was the inspiration for one of the original screen savers with flying toasters

  • This version is much better than the Long John Silver version as it features Papa John on fiddle. I have seen footage of this song with Papa John on VH1...does anyone know where this footage was from or where to obtain a copy???

  • Great Airplane crashing era song
