  • The back bone of Tommy Boy was Arthur Baker and J Robie...

  • Tommy Boy Records has been owned by Warner Brothers since the late 80's. Hardly a small business label!

  • this guys an asshat. If he is boasting about naughty by nature, queen latifa, and everlast.....lol. pack up shop and head on back home if they were the last gold albums your company has gotten. stfu.

  • Yeah, Tommy Boy records has gold and platinum records, but they had lots of airplay on mainstream radio in the 80's and 90's during the hip hop and Freestyle Era. Their music is barely aired or none at all on mainstream.

  • If they shut down internet radio ill fucknig kill myself becuase i am one owner of an internet radio

  • internet radio people are listen to the music, We the webcasters are the ones buying the music from Mr. Silvermans record label so people can hear their music. We are not offering people to download the music, but giving the opion to the listers to buy the songs that they are listen to by clicking on Buy Now next to the player.

  • My comments Part 1:

Disgust and nausea is all I can feel having heard the corporate-line comments by Silverman, Fink and Lee. Could they have expressed themselves any better as illogical sycophants to the corrupt US music business that destroys diversity and promotes parasitism of artists for the sake of lining executive's pockets?

Parts 2, 3 and 4 of my comments can be found after video #9 and at the end of this series.

  • Listen to the sound of fear. Smart artists are avoiding guys like Tommy altogether, courting alternative ways of exposure to the public (like internet radio), and releasing product themselves. Even though Tommy Boy is only 25 years old, it represents the very worst of old line thinking. Change with the times, Mr. Silverman, and quit trying to destroy what you obviously don't understand.

  • The bottom line here is how will music be paid for in the future. I can see why Silverman is worried: his way of life as a middleman is coming to an end and he is going to fight with every thing he has got to keep what he has got. In the near future, perhaps labels like Display Records, who are adapting to the changing times to use Internet radio, will take his business away?

  • So, without all these damn artists around demanding their money, Tommy Boy would make a profit? That's the gist I got. Well, SoundExchange makes sure labels get their money, even if artists don't. No wonder this guy likes that arrangement. I wonder how many rap artists are still out the money they thought they were going to get paid from this shyster in the 1980s...

  • I understand his popints as far as business goes, but too mcuh is too much. Bankrupting these small webcasters is not good business.

  • Boycott Tommy Boy Records!

  • Sounds like Internet Broadcasters are about to put Tommy Boy records in the discard pile. He should learn not to bite the hand that feeds his business.

  • Tommy Boy just screwed his artists out of hours of airplay on Internet Radio. What an idiot! I feel sorry for all Tommy Boy Records artists: find another record company, guys, that isn't controlled by the RIAA.

  • Tommy here is neglecting to mention an important fact: He sits on the board of SoundExchange, the RIAA group that collects these royalties...

  • I have been a club dj for over 25 years. Some of my first records were Tommy Boy records. I do not feel sorry for this guy at all and I have decided to drop Tommy Boy records from my stations playlist.

  • Moron...

  • I guess now that you've gone indepentent again, you relly need those big bucks from yahoo, aol, live365

itunes and all the rest of the biggies. who cares about the little webcaster just barely getting by. hmmm... wonder how you would of felt if the big record companies came in and force you to pay some kind of fees just to compete, and forced you out of business. Tommy Boy where would u be if that happened?? You tell me how this is a fair business practice.

  • You don't hear anything about artists, sir, because the labels are screwing the artists, too... if you weren't pimping them, maybe we'd support you more!

  • Here's a tip buddy: If you want to sell MORE records, then you should start embracing every possible avenue of promotion for them, especially internet radio! You don't squeeze every penny from them until they're out of business just to keep yourself alive. What happens when all these independent online stations that play your artists are off the air because of the increased royalties? Guess what, then NO ONE buys your albums, you're not getting ANY royalties, and YOU'RE out of business.
