Simply i can say that hes my biggest favorite drummer, he has amazing grooves and time signatures, his personality when hes playing is so passional and he has a great power, also he can sing and write some songs. I cant say all his skills and attributes in this little space, but trust me, is one of the finest drummers of the world, and he has a lot of feeling in his play, wich is very important in the music.
I'm not too sure about Zeppelin-style drumming because I find that he doesn't hit as hard as Bonzo did. However, he cites Keith Moon as one of his influences, but I still see more jazz-trained skills in the way he plays- more concise and generally smoother.
Maybe i can't be objective!!! cause I began drums by listening soundgarden's music.
But listen his play; listen how he is precise and how everything, every strokes serve with high quality the music of his band. We feel in his play a big freedom; He's clearly not in the "too much" but a musical relationship with his instrument. It is finally that which makes a big drummer. And Matt Cameron is a very big drummer.
just want to understand why people think his so great. I know he is. But i just seems overrated for me.so someone explain why hes better.. he plays straight and simple, strong and nice fills... but... its soething any famous drummer must have. why is he so special.. any videos? wheres his grooving, right foot speed, passion... can someone show me.
@luiscurtolo No one can say he's the best or better than anyone, it's all personal taste. When you're in a band as a contributing member, you play as one; not a soloist. He is his own genre and that's what many like. He's heavy handed, heavy footed and a groove monster and has an impressive power. To each his own.
Listen to Badmotorfinger and Superunknown. If you can't feel his passion, you're dead. That's the one thing that sets him apart. Watch "Limo Wreck" live...
@luiscurtolo depends on what you look for in a drummer and what you like really; Matt Cameron is my main inspiration for playing drums...the reason I started playing...to me, Matt serves the songs he plays more so than trying to stand out, not to mention his songwriting ability is incredible. He's not a flashy drummer and alot of people equate being flashy to being a great drummer...but to each their own; his talent and skill speak for themselves
you were right about the fact that he plays (again) in Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, but where are his sideprojects? I mean Wellwater Conspiracy and Hater are like, u know, AWESOME!!!! this one is just a half completed version of Matt Cameron. But I like the idea of making a Tribute for the best Grunge drummer ever!:P
Boring facts about a marvelous drummer......... He doesn't use primarily pearl drums at all........ I've seen him using dw, ayotte and yamaha. I saw an old picture once on a pearl drum kit, but that never meant it was his main brand of drums.
bout damn time someone did a tribute to this living legend. thank you. matt is not well known enough these days, but i bet he will go down in history as one of the most solid and interesting drummers in rock. he is the best replacement PJ could have ever gotten for Dave Abruzzese, way more suited for them than Jack Irons was. if you listen to Matt's work on Live On Two Legs tour, it's as solid as could be, he's like a human metronome.

@pandespinas yeah this guy is right, he didn't really play pearl. yamaha is mostly what he's played since the 90s, as well as dw and ayotte.
