  • the funny thing is the dude whos holding the backpack in the beginning is my teachers brother :) haha what now!

  • where do I begin to praise this marvelous song??? it touches my heart like no other song. even now when I listened to it, I have to embrace myself for the pain and jubilations that my blessed life has endured. this song is a gift to us all. a tribute to our past. so sad yet so hopeful at the same time. our youth is our foundation. it all started way back then, it made us who we are today. hopefully it will be our guiding light.

  • amazing i still remember the exact day i first heard this song.

  • wastin milkshakes and smashin pumpkins. the real life, y'all

  • the best mellow music at all times.. no mistake about it..do you argue? if you do let me know!!!

  • God this is so friggin true..... The best years of my life..... wow....... The faces and friends and experiences.... To priceless to forget.... Such a classic...

  • I am glad Johnny Hates Jazz is back in the recording studio. Their new song "Magnetized" sounds great! I have only heard a 30-second clip of it. Their new album is out in early 2012.

  • This song just tugs at my heart. Its haunting melody instantly takes me back to my adolescence during the 80's, and the story in the video reminds me so much of those carefree days when my friends and I did just about everything these little dudes were doing. I long for that simpler time in my life when a mortgage and demanding career were the furthest things from my mind. If time travel becomes a reality in my lifetime, I'll be camped out in line for a one-way ticket back to the 80's !!

  • Good video. haven't heard this song in years and years.

  • at 23 years old I am saying this is a great song!

  • Reminds me of London hearing it before I left for San Diego miss those days of life at the beach and driving down the old 101 with the ragtop down.

What a time for me never realized how great the music was until lately.

  • I wish I could Turn Back The Clock to the 80's.

  • Whaere is the british version of this video?? Theese are Ameican kids!! Where is the British version of this video?

  • @DG3744 How can you tell they're Americans and not British? Oh....Straight teeth.

  • @bobbaft NO! The houses, the clothes the architechture of buildings, at the end of the video he's walkin in manhattan, ny. I wanna see the english version of walkin in london and the english countryside!!

  • @bobbaft for pete's sake they're playin baseball instead of cricket or football!!

  • OMG!! What a classic tune!! Where have the years gone??

  • MAKES ME FEEL GOOD WHEN THIS SONG IS PLAYED. WELL DONE

  • Where have the years gone? Such a timeless classic. Came out when I was finishing high school. Now my own kids listen to these classics. Who wouldn't want to turn back the clock.

  • @hutchinson54 good old days, I would turn back the clock. a hug from Brazil.

  • This is REAL music people. Made from the heart. TRUE lyrics. True experiences that can relate to everybody. It speaks to your soul. You can feel the emotion in it. Always timeless.

  • @musiclover5543 Fine words, real music stir our feelings.

  • Wonder what user name thesickbeat is doing right now ..

  • One of the best songs from the 80's... my all time favorite...

  • They should play this song to prisoners 3 minutes before execution ... believe me after hearing this song they would feel very sorry for what they did ... this is the type of song that can melt the hearts of serial killers, make gang bangers put down their guns, make Republican Tea Baggers think of the middle class, make bar girls in Thailand not want to charge their customers the next day, make girls feel guilty for using guys for free dinners, make girls feel sorry for false rape accusations

  • @shenzhenprostitute friend is unfortunately time passes and the good things in life are behind, so we should enjoy this and thank God for another day of life. Hugs from Brazil.

  • @shenzhenprostitute Sorry, ain't gonna happen. I'm just glad I grew up in the 80's and can appreciate great music for what it is, not like today's crap on the radio. Not saying all of today's music is horrible.....but majority on radio are.

  • @shifterkart1 my friend, user name thesickbeat would love this music

  • @shenzhenprostitute , do you have any issues shen? I love my girlfriend and women in general, people too, feeling used going out with the wrong women?,,, now flatlanders no patience here for them here, like you for women that you choose, you need to look at your mistakes, not them for choosing you, could be your fault dude, I am a very devout atheist, my girlfriend is a very devout mormon, we talk about everything, no subject is off limits, you could try that rather than anger that you spew

  • @urquattro196 Don't think that if someone disagrees with you that they have issues. That's a self-righteous attitude that has no place in a civilized debate. You are naive if you don't think that women using men for free dinners and falsely accusing them of rape is not an epidemic. It's an epidemic of mass proportions. Your particular situation is irrelevant to my comment. There are good women, but there's also an awful lot of bitches out there. Not interested in your own individual case

  • @shenzhenprostitute

Hate to break it to you but the Tea Party is the middle class

  • @shenzhenprostitute You lost your cred at "Republican Tea Baggers."

  • @shenzhenprostitute

nice...except the republican tea baggers are middle class

  • @shenzhenprostitute Agree with you on all but one point. While this is not a political thread, please don't knock the Tea Partiers. They are for cutting out waste, reckless spending and government dependence. It's the Democrats and liberals, with runaway spending, social programs and resultant taxes that are hurting the middle class.

  • @shenzhenprostitute friend is unfortunately time passes and the good things in life are behind, so we should enjoy this and thank God for another day of life. Hugs from Brazil.

  • this is the first time I've ever heard this song and I LOVE it so much that I will make a music video of it! Thank you for posting! I have wished so many times I could turn back time back when life was so much simpler and you didn't have to worry about complex things such as love and money.

  • @alangentrinapestegui You touched me with his words. Thank you for comment. Show me the video when ready. Do not forget. A hug from Brazil.

  • @alangentrinapestegui You guys are cool!

  • nice song! love the lyrics!!!!

  • massive song and a big thumb,s up

  • Love this song.....almost forgot it existed til i heard it again so thanx Marquinhos32......

  • turn back the clock! bring back the 80s!

  • Just think... one day this might be just the day you would like to return to... so enjoy, today.

  • Simple times, great memories.

  • @sitube74 Thank You!!!!Good Times!!!

  • The 80s music was much less serious and more fun but the tunes were still great. NOw its a lot more serious, its about sex and shit. Yeah i love sex but its got boring, its left nothing to the imagination. POlitical correctness and "equality" for all, human rights bills etc is ruining this world. Weve tried to make it better and were failing - big time

  • Such a naive time in our life, it was a care free world back then, just messing around with your buddies, hanging out for hours, playing sports, watching movies, dating chicks, it was all good! As long as you had fun, that is what mattered... Good times, great memories to reminisce about

  • @SpencerDrew08 Beautiful words! Good times! A pity we can not go back! were going to meet girls in class, good times.

  • The 80s may have been the only era that people got nostalgic for, before they were even over!

  • This is my favorite JHJ song. I can relate to it. I miss my youth in the 80's.

Back then, things were better. Movies and music were better and MTV used to play music videos...lol. Thank you for posting this video.

  • High School's back with this song! Thanks for the memories....

  • great melody and lytrics. beautiful song. miss the 80s!

  • Classic

  • classic

  • great vid check out the rest

  • i NEVER get tired of "Johnny Hates Jazz". I can only imagine what they would be producing now. They were so ahead of their time. I still miss them and play them all the time!!

    Greg

  • this song brings me back when I was a kid, in Argentina, during the 80's. How I miss those days of peace and simpler suburban life, watching formula 1 with my father, going camping with the scouts, playing rugby in a nearby field with my friends, the cold war era, falklands war, princess diana. Brings tears to my eyes just remembering those long afternoons with my sisters playing at the backyard as if nothing else mattered...

  • Still awesome and I `m teenage when ever enjoy this song.Really , I want to turn back the clock.Thanx 4 posting.

  • That construction worker in the beginning kinda looked like Pauly from the Rocky movies

  • Wow! when good music was played..miss the 80's

  • I was born in 1980 and this song really captures what it was like just to hang out with your friends, before girls, drugs, alcohol and the general discomfort of being a teenager set in. Technology has kept everyone closer, but it it really shows how tied we are to the "touch of the button" convenience. I am blessed to still have my best friend from when we met in 1985 and it is really a great gateway for me to the past. Everyone urns for the past, disses the present, and questions the future.

  • I love the 80s. i wish i was born in 1970 so i could experience the 80s. Thats when the best music came out. Def Leppard, the Cars, Huey Lewis, Genesis, Etc.... im only a 22 years old, but feel like i shoulda been born earlier.

  • love this song

  • Música linda, boa de se ouvir. Esse clip, na verdade, faz lembrar a minha infância com todas as minhas travassuras e brincadeiras com os amigos. É muito manêro!!! Abraço a todos. William

  • I cry when I listen to this video, but hey, if your not thinking about your past while listening and watching this music video somethings wrong.. I wish I could relive my childhood, I miss my buddy up in heaven, hey, I'll see him soon *sniff* RIP Matt, good buddy you're still missed!

  • now THIS is REAL music ! screw rap, country, hip hop & all the other swine slop that record companies swill out to the public. THIS is how great, quality, heartfelt music is SUPPOSED to sound

  • @flameofelijah Could not agree with you more bro.

  • SONG 5 STARS*****

  • love them and miss their music

  • I love this song, great memories!

  • love this song.thank you

  • Good Times! Thank you..

  • NICE......! A great feel good song from the best era of music 1980-1990.

How I yearn for this kind of music. Remembering the innocence of those days and a simpler time.

Somebody out there, PLEASE invent a time machine.....PLEASE!!!

  • Good Times! Good idea! Time Machine urgent!...

  • @Marquinhos32 I agree

  • @n8tureboy Oh if only....but I think Id wanna send all the kids from today back to that era first, and have them see how we lived and were.....esp if we got outta line and mouthy, see what we got from our folks....lol...then after they come back, Id have to back in time and live those years all over again .....man oh man....music, the friends at the local park, and just having innocent fun, no computers, no cell phones no nothing.

  • @stvoyager

I know,..I know, and frankly, I share your lament. It's only natural for people in general to want to relive their adolescence. Especially for those of us who have good memories of the past. Each era has a different set of problems to deal with it seems, and raising children is definitely not getting any easier. All this technology seems to be enslaving at times and liberating at other times? I just know from personal experience that the best things in life are free.

  • @n8tureboy I think it has been invented already but they wont let anybody to show it to the public cause it could be dangerous. It's logic to built it ......see the videos about time machines!!

  • @n8tureboy That would be wonderful !

  • @n8tureboy If you do I want a ticket

  • @neo1mantra

I'm making a list of people that have made the same request to me. You're now on it sir. When I get it finished, I'll send you a message telling you where you can climb aboard the 80's good-time time machine!

We'll go back and Jam that great 80's music and play baseball and build tree houses, and chase girls, and...........I digress!

  • Agree, definitely miss those 80's!!! Thanks for posting x

  • I agree it really does make you wish you could turn back the clock when you listen to these songs you relive the 80sand wish you where there!

  • sometimes when I listen this song I wish I would have turned the clock. I graduated from high school with a c average but now I am going to college and making a 3.6 GPA. If this were different back then I would made a 3.6 GPA, under different circumstances

  • this song reminds me of my past on how my life was so much better ,and if i lived my life over againg everything woukd normal for me not like now in the begining of the21 century and two of my best friends and my mother would still be here

  • friend, I know it's hard to go through it, some friends and my father are gone, before we were very young and did not know how it's hard to go through it. thanks for the comment.

  • Good Times!!

  • I don't remember listening to this song back in the late 80's, but listening to it now reminds me of my time in the late 80's (When starting college). I wish it was this time again and to know what I know now. All of us should look forward to what we have now and do the best with your life now rather than regretting what you didn't do in the past. Sometimes I need to remember this advice myself.

  • Very nice feedback. Thank you

  • life is so short, this song remind me how precious time age fly by.. this is a sad song but it make you think and realize how important life is....great song and group.. tks for the post

  • You too. Makes me go back in time and remind me of my adolescence. Thanks for the comment.

  • Wow, all the memories this song brings back. Thanks for the post.

  • You too. Makes me go back in time and remind me of my adolescence. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thanks everyone for the comments. Yeah, it was a fun time in my life when I was doing acting work like this, and it's cool to have people recognize and like something you were lucky enough to be a part of.

I don't remember exactly when we did this. It was definitely fall, which you can also tell by watching the video. Maybe Oct? I was only doing this kind of work from summer '87 to summer 89, so it could have been either 87 or 88. I think it only took 2 days, but 2 really full days.

  • A time when we had REAL music!!!

  • one of the most Underrated groups in history.

  • I have always said this song will be played at my funeral. Morbid, I know but it will make everybody happy! sad and at least I will be remembered by for the most of enchanting tunes of all time. Clark Datchler really was/is talented. Somebody cover this please!!!!

  • Thats really interesting what a great experience and WHAT A GREAT SONG! I love this song and lyrics brings back old times and allllllllllllll the good memories. Absolutely the best tc derek PS I enjoyed being in movie ROCKY II also

  • What year was this song popular?

    I love it! Beautiful song!

    I like the video, too!

  • Obrigado pelo comentario!

  • Song was popular in 1988 or beginning of 1989. Awesome song!

  • The video was filmed in and around Cold Spring, NY. I was the little nerdy kid with curly hair and big glasses. Clark, Calvin & Mike were real cool guys, as were the crew and everyone else, and it was a fun time shooting the video. The other 2 boys and I were actors who came up from NYC for the shoot. They let our parents, who were just hanging around the set, be in the video too, thats my mom in the ice cream shop scene.

  • That must have been great! I love this music. Takes me back to my college days. This one and Shattered Dreams are my two JHJ favorites. Thanks for sharing the inside scoop on the video.

  • Fico feliz com sua historia. Muito bonita. Acredito que você tenha saudades.(I am happy with its history. Very pretty. I think you miss it)

  • Oh wow!seriously you were in the video when you were younger?that is really cool

  • Hey, You are lucky to be in a video clip of a such a lovely song. It is awsome.

  • @derekhuntingtonmarti who thats amazing can you remember the month was it 87 or 88

  • The whole video was filmed in and around Cold Spring, NY. I know b/c I was the little nerdy kid with the big glasses.

  • This song just makes me think back to the various points in my life where I felt I was at the top of the game.

Most notably '06-'07 when I was driving cross country, OTR.

18 wheeling to different cities, working by my own schedule, enjoying life for once.

  • savage garden arent canadian

  • anyone know were they filmed the outdoor forest/stream scene ????

    thx in advance!!

  • Beautiful, this song gives off such a good vibe and has meaning *sigh* I remember those days back then, I wish I could relive them. The music of today is pathetic, synthesized and rap.

The 80's were the best, and to think, majority of the 80's great artists/bands were from Canada. Not this band but many others, Glass Tiger, Gino Vannelli, Strange Advance, Savage Garden, etc(so many more from Canada).

What happened to the music of the 80's today?

*sigh* the world truly has changed dramatically.

  • @IALIEX Savage Garden was from Australia.

  • women, cars and always great wkends drinking and dancing without a care!

  • absolutely beautiful, words, music, video just makes you think bout all good things of growing up friends, family, neighborhood and just great times and great memories

  • Seems like just yesterday when I first heard this.

Wow I remember those days when I lived in London and seemed like I never had a care in the world.

Now I am older and it is work and bills and keeping life on track everyday.

Wish I could turn back the clock and revisit those fun days of no worries and the clothes and the cars.

    Wow those were the days.

  • I happened to be an American college student visiting London May 1988 when I heard "Shattered Dreams" hoping it would catch on in the US. I was not disappointed. This song got a lot of play too as did "I Don't Wanna Be a Hero." So to me it represented the time I travelled Europe from Athens to the gloroius endpoint of London. Fantastic album and era.

  • It was the time I was preparing to leave England after almost my entire childhood was spent there.

I left to go back to America and the western United States.

Yes London was the best years of my life and I never forget dancing with that girl from that night so long ago.

Do I miss that girl yes she is the what if girl.

I live in mointains where it snows and the weather is similar to London and yes I still think of her everyday.

  • Always actually liked this one more than Shattered Dreams. Wasn't nearly as big a hit, though...............go figure.

  • I totally agree this was the better song. The whole album is excellent, one of the best of the 80's.

  • BELLAS EPOCAS ,LINDA CANCION THANKS

  • This song is one of my all-time favorites, yet I thought your comment was so creatively strange that I had to laugh. :)

  • I wish I could turn back the clock...

  • Good times!

  • You and me both...sigh. For some reason my past was more enjoyable than my present. But anywho...

  • What a Wonderfull Band these guys were!! My wife and I still love to listen to them. I love the vocals and keyboards. Thanks, Johnny Hates Jazz!!

  • Good times! Bons tempos!

  • Fantastic song and video.Reminds me of me and my cousins doing all kinds of mischief when we were kids.Good ol' beautiful childhood days.

  • Good times! Bons tempos!

  • I must confess I'm weeping right now.....this song just managed to bring me to tears.....it's not related only to my childhood that was awesome but the fact that I left behind my dearest friends who I shared nice moments with in my hometown, Porto Alegre, just going to 80's parties and other places....I'm frantic over 80's songs.....today's music is shitty, at least 95%.......

    Masterpiece indeed!

  • 1987 i think i rembber it well

  • I really love this song, I can totally relate to the lyrics of this song, this song also has aged nicely over the years, I used to think this song came out in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

  • I remember these kinds of adventures as a boy. Now I look forward to even greater adventures.

  • One of my favorite songs from 1988, thanks.

  • sounds like an '80's ford econoline van chugging down the highway; the beat of the song, DT!!

  • You must be a pedophile then.

  • Very nice song and yes don't we all wish we can turn back the clock. Love songs with this kind of messages..

  • Very cool era in 80s music around 87'-88'. Second only to 83'-84'.

  • Lord, please turn back the clock to enjoy this kind of good music which they dont make nowadays...I misss musics of 80's & 90's...

  • Enjoy life. There's plenty of time to be dead. love this song.

  • Love the innocence and child like manner of this tune. Makes me wish I could turn back my clock and re-live some of my most cherished memories of being a kid. in a lesser dangerous time.
