I can understand that tolerate can seem demeaning, but it IS something we are taught to do from a young age. It isn't always a harsh statement. Here are a couple of definitions that I wouldn't mind applied to me: 1. To allow the existence, presence, practice, or act of without prohibition or hindrance. 2. To recognize and respect (the rights, beliefs, or practices of others).

Please don't be hurt by that word. It doesn't always mean they are just willing to put up with you.

It all beagn as a property rights issue, so when self-righteous, holier-than-thou moronsstart talking about the 'sanctity' of marriage, it's obvious to me that they have not clue about history. The meaning of marriage has changed to the last few decades from a familial obligation to an issue of love and happiness. Isn't 'Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness' covered unequivocally (without exception) in the Bill of Rights? It shouldn't even be an issue.

Acually marriage was created, historically, as a way for the wealthy men to transfer property between themselves as a contract more binding than simply signing a legal document. The girls/women were legally the property of their fathers and with the marriage becam the property of their husbands. When their husbands died they became the property of their eldest sons. Up until the mid-15th Century marriage was ONLY available to the wealthy (Merchant Class, Noble Class & Royal Class).

Palin is a total waste of time. I was very angry when she said "tolerated" too. I was shocked when Biden said he was not in favor of gay marriage. ANYONE in this country should be able to marry anyone they want whether they are gay or straight. Here in Canada people are accepted for who they are. Heck, we have even military same sex weddings held on the bases! "Marriage is the lawful union of two persons to the exclusion of all others"...as defined in our charter.
