Wow I remember working for Kurtis Maloff at the Sands back in 94' good times back then, partying it up at The Office Tavern, good times great city awesome folks....
thanks, just turning east on main was a memory. Amazing how I've already gotten used to the change. Gonna have to check out other Alamosa youtubes, I hadn't even thought about looking for them
I was born here back in the 50's & I have old, old, old movies on film but I don't have a projector to play them back. Yes, Alamosa has changed. I am nostalgic about the old days but I can appreciate the changes that have happened as a good thing. I see how many cities & small towns that are destitute & have become ghost towns & am thankful that we are holding our own. This could be exciting times.
What a trip, born and raised in alamosa, 63-80, joined the navy came back for a couple of years left in 85 never been back, remember some of the best times was cruisin maine on friday and saturday nights, piggin out at the hamberburger inn, goin to the drive inn, man those were the days, thanks for the memories
This is awesome! I'm 27, my Aunt Louise Owned the Ace Inn! It's so crazy to see this video. My Mom Phyllis helped her around there. Thanks for posting this, it's great!
Funny, this video starts out at almost exactly where I live today. I've only lived here for a few weeks but have come and gone since the mid 90's (mother lives in Crestone).
ah the good ol days of being able to cruz main without the stupid one way roads. Love the videos. you should make an up to date one before the change something else
My cousin, Kelly Trautwein still lives in Alamosa. He has his own business there and lives out East of town on Highway 160. He has lived there his entire life. The rest of my family lived there in the 70's while I was in the Navy. What a jerk car694 (above) is. Thanks for the great work.
Who are you FireWireRob? I wish I had filmed Alamosa when I was in high school - 1959 - 1963! the bowling alley was the absolutely most western end of Alamosa at that time - on the other side of the road was chico bush and rabbit brush. Love your video - wish I had done it way back when (but they didn't have videotape back then) Milton Knutson
I was born here in 1954 . Ur right I remember when the A&W was out of town with a dirt parking lot. How about Kneveln's auctionhouse and Carrol's Potato Chips. Now that old school!
Wow! I was born in Alamosa in 1954 as well. Haven't lived there since 1st grade (Boyd School) but I did live in South Fork and Del Norte in the 60's and early 70's. We knew Kenny Carrol "Carrol's Potato Chips" and got to drive his boat on his private man-made lake one time. Too many memories even though I was just a little kid. How about Spudnuts and Splashland or the old Rialto? I know the Rialto burned down.
I was born in '54, Alamosa. Lots of great memories have been shared since I posted the vid. I have some old, old film footage of Alamosa from back in the early 60's but can't find a 8mm projector to run the film. I would love to share!
I was nine years old in 1994; the prime time of childhood. I've since left Alamosa for the city, and every time I come home to visit, I'm filled with disappointment. The small town where I went to school, learned to drive, and fell in love for the first time is no longer here. Alamosa is the a classic example of a disappearing America. Sure, your video is a bit sappy, and manipulative, but if you're from Alamosa, it captures what it used to be perfectly.
Oh man thank you so very much for the memories. I left Alamosa when I was in 9th grade, about 1979. I have been back almost every year the past 20 years. The last of my family has moved from the Valley. Remember Burger Barron, the old Dairy Queen that used to be west of town? How about Woolworths? Thanks again for posting this video. I loved your other one from 1987.
You're welcome, Yes I remember Burger Baron, my 1st girlfriend used to work there & I alway ate for free. How about Al's Donut shop with the those huge triangle donuts that had the filling? Germer's clothing store? Many many more....
I can post it for you if you'd like. It is quite a process to convert it from VHS video to digital format. Let me know, I can borrow your vid, post it and return it to you.
I have a driving around video that I did in the 80's. More of first street and the river North road areas around the golf course. I should post that on youtube.

Funny, the businesses that you remember. Jack's Supermarket, Montmgomery Wards, Woolworths! I used to love to eat at the lunch counter there.
It is kind of surreal watching the video. Does anybody remember the zoo at the park? I have a vague memory of the mistreated bear.
