He didn’t emancipate the slaves until 2 years after the war had begun. He freed them so that they would vote for him in his re-election, so that the enlightened slavery-free European countries would support him, and in order to punish the Southern states for daring to defy the almighty Federal Government. That is what the Civil War was about; maintaining the power of the Federal Government over the states. He didn’t care about slavery.

Actually, the war began in 1861 and Lincoln issued the first EP in 1862. He didn't run again until 1864. The Civil War was about slavery, as the South said when they started it in their Cornerstone Speech and Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, and South Carolina declarations of secession you've obviously never even read. Did you even graduate high school?

@RonPaulHatesBlacks He announced it in 1862, but didn't issued it until 1863. If your saying the war was started over slavery by the South, then go do some research. Grant said if he found out the war was about slavery, he would have given up his sword and join the other side.

The EP consists of two executive orders, the first issued in Sept. 1862 and the second on Jan. 1, 1863. Even 2 minutes on Google would have told you that. How sad that you're too stupid and lazy to do even that!!!
Either you're glad America upheld the Constitution, saved the Union, and freed the slaves, or you support MORE years of slavery. Whining that Lincoln and Grant weren't perfect by today's standards is a Nirvana fallacy or neo-Nazis whining that the Allies weren't perfect.

@RonPaulHatesBlacks No, in Sept. 1862, Lincoln issued a preliminary decree stating that, unless the rebellious states returned to the Union by January 1, freedom would be granted to slaves within those states. (although a decree is not exactly an order) Of course, no Confederate State was going to take the offer, so in January 1, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln openly stated that he fought his own people in order to assert the power of his central government over them.
