I know people will say im stupid for saying this, but Inferno is overrated, the only reason it sounds brutal its because every piece of his drum set is triggered, he barely puts effort . dont get me wrong, i wish i had half the talent he has but certainly there are better drummers out there like Mike Smith from Suffocation or Gene Hoglan of Dethlok.

@acunabks There is a difference between trigger and microphone. In triggers you get exactly the same sound no matter how hart or soft you hit the drum. If you listen from 0:00 to 0:09, you dont hear exaclty the same sound each time he hits the snare drum. At 0:34, intensity keeps changing all the time. That doesnt happen with triggers, thats the point of triggers. And secondly thats not a gravity blast watch his wrist motion carefully. He's just hitting fast and nothing extraordinary about it.

This is particularly useful when recording a drummer playing ghost notes on the snare, which would otherwise be a real pain to trigger. Triggers do not just record the same velocity each time, the blips will vary in velocity depending on how hard the drum's hit, however it's common to not vary the velocity of a kick drum sample much to keep the low end tight.

Inferno is very good, but also very overrated. The hand pattern isn't anything incredible, and he's just very fast on the double bass pedals.

I'm not saying he's bad, but merely that a lot of people think he's the best thing since sliced bread, and his main style is just playing really fast on the kicks, and usually a pretty basic hand pattern, interspersed with some (admittedly very fast) blast beats and fills. Like I said, the best tech death drummer out there right now is by far George Kollias.

Tomas Haake is also amazing, mainly due to his insane polyrhythmic abilities.

Reinert Runs circles around Kollias. Kollias would be Death's 3rd best drummer. Roddy would be their 4th. It's not all about speed, Kollias is one of the most unimaginative drummers in music. Haake is also much better overall then Kollias. Out of all the people mentioned, roddy and kollias have the worst feel, are the least tasteful and versatile, and play in the worst band.

But even so, reading the majority of the comments i must say, death/black metal fans are the most "short sighted" fans there is, they trully think that what they ear it's the only good thing to be listened, and can't just take a comment that says otherwise. Indeed, you obviously can't compare him to jazz or progressive rock drummers in terms of technical skill and tempo management. But his technique is excellent for him genre and accomplishes what needs to be done in the music he plays.  He can maintain extremely fast tempos on both his double bass and his upper body and bang out some pretty nice rhthyms as well.

Besides that, this solo was mediocre at best, Pete Sandoval and Gene Holgan are a lot better than this guy.

Yes, I'm agree too. It's really a bad solo. In black or death metal, drum solos don't have a lot of dynamics... In my opinion, that's boring (even if it is technically hard). But THIS solo really sucks in my humble opinion.
