Lotta years, lotta years. The famous Rocket Rick Hill once rappelled and climbed Whiteside ten times in one day (truthfully, it also took him part of one night). Before his back started acting up years later, Rick was the King of the Multiple Bounce. We used to camp up there on top of the mountain and the spend the entire weekend on the rope.
I have never rappelled Whiteside , but I have climbed the OR (original route) three times. The last time we went straight up the tenth pitch and finished at the scenic overlook. Right thru the handrails with a crowd watching! Its dangerous , runout , has poisonous flora in some cracks and has bats in route to the top, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CLIMBING !!!
Yep. It took me 46 minutes mainly because it was so psychologically demanding on me being that high. It doesn't bother a lot of folks, but I am not one of them. I am training to go back this year and hopefully beat the time.
900 feet is what we take with the drop this year being about 700 feet. The spot I rappelled this year was 603 foot free hang from the lip to the ground. It took almost 100 feet to get to the lip. We measured this with a rope meter to be accurate however due to the terrain, the drop length can fluctuate from spot to spot. The quickest I've known anyone to ascend was 17 minutes but it took me 46 due to prayer stops. :-) 5-15 minutes to rappel on average I would guess
Awesome video, but how much rope does one need to rappel down Whiteside Mountain? How long does it take to rappel and ascend back up to the top? Thanks a bunch!
i am very impressed. nicely done. we have one here in the Philippines we called the west wall. we descended it in two days, it has multiple pitches and we also used a 200mtr rope in the second pitch. the west wall isn't as clean as Whiteside Mountains' drop that we could rappell off easier. good job guys! that was pretty cool!
this video made my nuts tingle...in other words...yah, im skeerd of heights...LOL...great vid and awesome shots

awesome video...i like it a lot...the music ruled and it was funny to watch

Yea, get rid of the music then it would be fine. Since the video has no audio, it's almost pointless to watch.

I agree. Why did they edit the rappel? Show the whole thing!
