@shulamit1991 It was not used in the film, just seems that the user wanted to combine the song with the scene (I love that video by the way). The clip is from the 1970 film Hoffman starring Peter Sellers and Sinead Cusack.
Great original song although the version sung by 'People' sounds more 'psychedelic'. Anyway, both versions of this song are very rarely played on mainstream FM Oldies stations nowadays!
Thanks fo uploading this Great Oldies song from the 60's. Heard this on the Merle Hay Mall (Des Moines) background music today. I remembered this catchy song, but couldn't remember the group or title. Did a search on the repeated "I Love You" lyrics and found out the Zombies had this 1965 hit. And YouTube had a few uploads of it. Liked your upload the best.
The accoustic guitar and electric piano playing in unison sounds fantastic. I actually like both versions of "I Love You"... The Zombies version and Peoples version !
My God....I remember a local band from Maine..."The Reasons Why" made a 45 of this back in the 60's THEN! you were "Famous" for having a 45 record out....LOL! Remember the "Pal Hops!" "Battle of The Bands!" Now Im dating myself....OUCH!
People's version WAS better, which is why it got so much airplay. I wasn't even aware of the Zombies version until some 30 years later. Same with "Every Little Thing" by Yes. Knew the Beatles had written it, but did not hear their version until 20 years after the fact. Or "It's For You" by Three Dog Night. Wasn't even aware that the Beatles had recorded it until much later...

@misterdirtyknees In those days ( late 50's thru mid 60's ) it was considered very cool to wear black rim glasses, thanks to Buddy Holly. Give them a break.., there were no designer frames back them !
Very well done! I love the sequence of album covers and psychedelia. I think that it is telling how persistent this group has become over time. Back in the day, they were just one of many, or so it seemed, and they have truly risen to the top echelons.

I have the CD, "The Singles, A's and B's" by The Zombies. It took a long time to decide. It is a good choice, even though most on the CD are mono. I just love The Zombies!! So great, and touring nowadays.
So this was done 1965? That's why I got that impression from the version done by People (I didn't understand when I found their version came out it 1968).
i was loading the dishwasher when this song came back to me. Did a long search but it was worth it. I was a little kid when this came out but always had the radio on. so glad I have found it again. Love it.
The Zombies do a much better version than People which was forced on most of The U.S. in the 60's., which leads to the inevitable question: Why? Rod Argent was a great song writer, so it is amazing the bass player (Chris White) wrote this! Also, Colin Blunstone was just a fabulous lead singer! The Zombies were a very under rated British Band! Their material holds up quite nicely to this day! ROS!
i just listened to it thinking i hadn't heard it before, but i know all the words already hah, they're the type of songs that i've heard a thousand times, but never knew what they were. Time of the season is my favourite zombies song, i loved the ben taylor band cover of it, until i heard the original, zombies beats it, without a doubt! :)
Hi'ya again...I've just heard Time of the Season!! Brilliant stuff!!! I know i've definately heard it before somewhere. I think it must have been in a film or something, years ago. Thanks for that! ;-)
Dirty hippies? My sister was a hippie and she was anything but dirty. She seen Jimi Hendrix at Pirates World in 1967 when he opened for the Monkees. She was at the Diner Key Auditorium in 1969 at the infamous Doors concert in Miami when Jim Morrison was arrested. Being a hippie in the 60s allowed her be there for these 2 historical events. And yes she went to Woodstock in 1969. Hippies were not dirty, at least not any of the hippies I knew as a kid in South Florida (Ft Lauderdale to be exact).
I grew up in South Western Ontario, Canada. Perhaps a 2 hour drive to Detroit. I had family in both Windsor and Detroit. And wtf? was that Am stations call letters? The one from Detroit, actually a Windsor station.
@MasterWitchDoctor Say Hi to her from me - I was at Isle of Wight - british equivalent of woodstock - see also "Sh'es Not There" by the zombies - I saw Hendrix, Dylan, and just about all the best US bands, but managed to miss beatles and stones - saw The Who and I'm still deaf as a post as a result lol!
Agree. I think mainly Larry Norman of the Peoples did a wonderful job on the singing, and the Peoples had a better promotion of their song, long & short versions etc, thus it was varstly accepted by pop fans worldwide, esp in Japan as far as I know, I've only heard of the Zombies' version not long ago on youtube...
I love the Zombies heard their version first but I have to say The People do a great job, it's really close but I think I like The People's cover better
@TheMidnightBell07 I was listening to the People's long version of this song the other day and I totally agree. The arrangement on the People's version really adds to the song. But the Zombies lead singer Colin Blunstone's vocals is outstanding and I prefer the Zombie's version because of it.This is probably my favorite of the Zombies songs, but since there are so many good ones it's really hard to choose.
never heard of the People. Zombies were the creators and authors...this is the only version.! grew up in the 50's and 60's and heard some great (and awful) covers of pop music. Zombies are tops.
This is such a pretty song. I love both their version & Peoples version. I have the 45 by People. I'd love to get this version too. The People version was the one that always got played more for some reason back then. I know Larry Norman is singing this up there in heaven. Great music.

This is NOT a hippie era song! British Invasion!
It's amazing how shallow distributors and even DJs can kill a group. The Zombies
could've been 10x more successful in the U.S. if they had pushed "I Love You".
It could've filled the gap after "Tell Her No" and they would've been known as
more than a 2-song act. As it happened, the one hit wonder group "The People"
turned the concise little pop song into a into a psychedelic "epic".
