So, the Pres wanted to make it possible to run for re-election, something that we have in the USA, in order to do so he had to have the military poll the public - to refuse to do so is illegal. So then they kidnap him and kick him out, and the fact that anyone thinks the military of Honduras is correct in doing so amazes me.
BRAVO TO THE HONDURAN PEOPLE AND CONGRESS FOR PREVENTING MANUEL ZELAYA FROM MOCKING THEIR DEMOCRACY AND TURNING HONDURAS INTO ANOTHER DICTATORSHIP LIKE VENEZUELA. MANUEL ZELAYA WANTED TO BE PRESIDENT FOR LIFE LIKE HUGO CHAVEZ.
Michelleti and his gang of imperialist puppets are criminals. They should be hanged like what the revolutionaries of France did to their king and queen.
And now the IMF is lending the military goverment a huge loan! What is wrong with that picture?
USA's condemnation is just a smoke screen. They support this. At the same tim as IMF is giving a loan to these criminals, the US government is cutting off all financial aid to the country.
This is the same story all over again. Corporate America eating up a south American country. The only difference is that now US plays it differently.
@prakkari Here we go again, somebody using the communist strategy of blaming everything that happens in latin america on the United States. The truth is that the honduran people and government don't want their country to become like Venezuela, which is a Dictatorship hidden behind democracy. GOOD DECISION BY THE HONDURAN CONGRESS TO PRESERVE THEIR DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM.
i think that this political situation is very complicated and confuse, and my personal opinion is that olways we have a bad administrator like president with oll his gavinet governor because they only think in thier own benefiist, anything for the rest of the habitanst.
The situation in Honduras is not easy for which it lives here, every one can formulate an opinion according to its understanding, but important right now, it is to have peace.
I think Honduras is in a worriying situation, because a political problem became in a international problem, cause a lot of friends countries we have removed their economic and social aid.
and the worst is that the most affected are the poor
I insist that the way the country took to Sr.Zelaya here and in China is a coup, but was astute Micheleti not just put an occupying military government positions. And now he can defend the "Chapulin Coloado" NO ... Manuel Zelaya is paying what he did to Jesus Christ Man refused entry into the country and Micheleti for having spoken bad of Jesus Christ Man. so is this.
Right now here in Honduras we are living a confused situation. Some people agree with Manuel Zelaya and others don't. New elections are coming over and electoral campains have already started. We need found out a solution quickly to reconciliate between us.
Honduras will defend democracy and freedom at any cost. That was the message to Hillary Clinton and the rest from countries against the majority of public opinion have persisted in calling a coup by constitutional mandate the dismissal of Zelaya.
Also, what many Hondurians that support this coup does not know is the hardly any country what so ever recognize Michelliti's government legitimate. NOT ONE!, of course the USA still condemns the coup, but still have not stop giving aid the Hondurian Paramility group.
If the government is not recognized its reason is politics, and can be understood with a small dose of common sense. If a government agrees with the overthrowing of another Chief of State, what message is he sending out? He's sending out a message that Governments can be pretty weak... And that, he doesn't want. Plus, the leftist latin american countries condemn this because of obvious reasons, and if the right wing ones didn't, they'd be "interfering with democracy".
Unfortunately you are correct. I also find astonishing to read the comments, from pixiedust, which are just winful propaganda, and i wonder if these user had ever saw i documentary called: The war on democracy,by John Pilger. Is nothing left or rigth about this mess, as the user someone1348 is trying to put it, it's simply ANTIDEMOCRATIC, and the consecuenses are obviously catastrophic for the nation, in this case Honduras people. Fuerza Y Honor!!.
OH Please!!! i have seen both sides of the propaganda..i am on the side of the most reasonable side..i also happen to know zelaya on a personal level and let me tell you that you are actually the victim of this winful leftist propaganda!
What is truly amazing is the same people supporting this fascist right wing coup, are the same people wanting to bring oppression to their own hondurian brothers and sisters. There is no where that Zelaya wanted to run for a second term, that is just an excuse to relate Zelaya to Chavez...Every leader has their own method to apply a socialsim system
Ohh okay, well I know for a fact that he wanted to be re-elected for good. He wanted to become Honduras' dictator because my family knows Mel on a personal level and was benefiting from his position. Is that fair that he takes money out of the government to support his friends..making it seem like they have important roles in the government when all they do is play poker all day?what is that? Are you ever from Honduras?Have you gone there to see what it is all about?
Please don't make me laugh pixiedustkim....do you read? Do you know the true history of latin america and how Imperialism has destroyed many countries and bought nothing but oppressio and destruction to neighborhood countries? I am pretty sure you don't even know, you better pick up some books and start educating yourself.
Now please do not offend me! The person who needs to pick up some books is you! Did you even go to school? Please, learn some manners when defending your beliefs. I asked you questions and you did not even answer them. I assume you are not even from Honduras, you are a Communist who needs to find where to go with your absurd ideas! In Honduras we DO NOT want Communism to take over. It is because of people like you that we are in the critical state that is here!
We do not want lazy people like you to take over our country...go out be smart and make you own money because if you ever get to be rich you are not going to like it when they take your goods away, things that you have earned with the sweat of your ass..lazy socialist!
''If you ever get to be rich''....ha!,it goes to show, that the only thing you care about is money, and you called at me ''lazy socialist'',i don't remember calling my self a socialist, but we all know now what you are afraid of.. So!, please don't send me any of your winful comments,.Bye bye.
yea because things move around without money and honestly..in what mind does that fit..and you dont have to call yourself a socialist when the words you say say it all!And yes i am afraid of givng my money to people who are too lazy to work..when i am the person that has earned it!
obviously zelaya's plan was to do the same thing as chavez and as Fidel castro cuba's president,,,yea yea i am Hondurian and im living what is happening recently here in Honduras,,,,i mean Zelaya's people are destroying our capital city,,,,they burn a local,,,,they also burn a bus with passengers in it,,,,oh and also inside the local there were people eating,,,,,there were childrens inside playing inside the restaraunt
That is totally correct, what Mel wanted to bring was the socialism. He wanted to bring Honduras down, he doesn't care he is a drug dealer he is one of the wealthiest people in Honduras his greed and "good heart" were going to bring Honduras down worse than before. Everything that happened was GREAT!!! I am so proud of my Honduran people who had the guts to bring this guy down!!!
yeah,,,,im also proud but i wonder what is he planning now,,,,i mean yesterday i ask my grandmother asking her where was zelaya ,,,,,and what she told me was: He is in chile but he said the he does not wants to come back because anymore,,,,,,but what about zelaya's people why dont they leave if zelaya said he doesn't wants to come back again,,,,why do they keep making disturbing things???,,,,,why do they keep making vandalic actions???
You tube is funny, five min. researching about Mel and 5 other in newspapers, there you go, he needed to leave for the sake of the region and the stability of our society. The constitution needs to be change, diminish the tolerance of a possible dictator, like Brutus, "Not that I love Ceasar less, but that i love Rome more"
i think honduran new govt is not providong the facts internationally, Mel was taken by forvçce at gunpoint, at night unaware of his destiny. Unforgivable. Yet, he was too busy to handle a kidnap per day in our society too busy changing laws, Now he knows how that feels ha!, Burn in hell you fascist, illiterate junkie!
At 1:18, his name is Eulogio Chavez, known as Elodio Chavez (The hater Chavez), not a nice guy, he claims to be a teacher, he prooves it with his degree, but not with his actions. Radical Communist, defending a democratic constitution. Something is wrong in our country and all the radicals little red heads. His hobby is rioting over nothing in the streets, oh Zelaya as a dictator had promise him a good govt position no wonder ha
Chavez is fighting for socialism get it right! a system where the wealth of society belongs to those who produce it, the working class, and is used in a planned and sustainable way for the benefit of all. In place of greed, domination and exploitation, we stand for solidarity, friendship and cooperation between all peoples.
By now, people should kow this a historical event, a coup sociologically to be analyzed, Zelaya had given his back to our whole democratic strutcure, about to change law for long staying in power, dont we have the right to kicked him out, if he wouldve stayed, all hell would have broken loose. Long live our country, death to megalomaniacs like Zelaya and the whole ALBA confeds
And by having a vote on a non-binding referendum to hold an assembly to make changes on the constitution, is undemocratic? Kidnapping him and exile him out of his country is democracy? Boy, you have weird way showing democracy.
Okay..but are you aware of the fact that those voting stubs were shipped in from Venezuela and were already filled out with peoples information?? now that is unconstitutional..and what necessity does Venezuela have for sending this in and giving Honduras all it has given. I dont think it was Chavez's good heart or is it??
Oh please, spare me your propaganda....are you aware of the fact that there are three major exporting banannas company in Honduras which is owned by USA. They make over 70% profitable revenue on Honduras crop which is then distributed to the rich families of Honduras, mean the workers get nothing!
Here are just some of the dictators USA has supported with coup actions taken...Batista, Pinochet, Somoza, Peron, Trujillo....etc. Its truly amazing that a man that wants to have a vote on a non-binding referendum to hold an assembly to make changes on the constitution. That's it. So he gets exiled from his country. Yep, its a coup
That's it? That's your rebuttal. Zelaya is Chavez??
you don't reach much do you? You do realize that three large exporting fruit company (All US owned) are behind this coup along with some right wing elite group in Honduras....should I go on......?
you mean they're against it right... They all support Zelaya as well as the UN that's why there were all the threats of cutting off trade and excluding them from the OAS. Go check your facts. I'm done talking to you.
The coup-schemers saw Zelaya's efforts empowering Honduran polity with option of expressing their opinion over a November vote calling for a Constitutional Assembly to draft a new constitution in which ALL sections of society would have an equal voice. The Honduran Constitution is a deeply flawed document that preserves the consolidation of power & wealth among the 10 wealthiest families & their financial & international investor cohorts. This is the central fact obscured by 'rule of law' BS.
what's the real story? I hear a person or two on everyone of these videos say "this is not what really happened" but that's all! Unless you actually tell us, we won't know! Go ahead tell us the real story or shut the hell up.
search for this video "President Zelaya Was Constitutionally Removed From Office in Honduras. There Was No Honduran Coup." it explains the story well I think.
I was living in Honduras when this happened. I was only 3 blocks away from casa presidential
That's the problem with some of us is that We can't always go with video and some of the mainstream media when the majority are bought off from wealthy owners, corporate and bunch of neo-cons moron. You have to read a little about latin america's past. In my opinion, this was definitely a coup
I know about Latin America's past. But I also know that what happened wasn't a coup because Congress ordered the military to take the actions that they did because what Zelaya was trying to do was unconstitutional and congress was acting how the constitution called for them to do. It was a diplomatic act by Congress, the supreme court, and the military.
Sorry i have to disagree with. There is no where in this wacky Honduras Constitution thats says you can kidnap a president at gun point and expel him from his country without a fair trial. This was definitely a coup that is supported by mostly three of the largest exporting bananas companies.
You really need to stop worrying about the banana exports!!!! Do you not have another argument that does not involve the banana exports!?I am a banana producer and exporter if anybody needs to be worried about bananas its me but you do not see me complaining!
If you know about the history of latin america, you should know that HISTORICALLY, USA helped overthrown elected president and replace them with brutal dictators. For decades this has occured in the past and practically massacared anyone with an idealogy of social reform
There is no way in hell a coupe is justified when an elected president is taken by force and taken to another country by force in order to take his mandate. The people out him in and they are the ones that take him out, you can see that all this is TORO SHIT.
What gets me, so many naive Americans support the coup because they believe corporate media lies re: Zelaya was 'dictator' seeking to overturn the Constitution so he could rule for life. They don't even suspect they're being scammed or why. US was behind the coups in Venezuela & Haiti. Legacy of US intervention in L America has left violence, extreme poverty, marginalized masses & corrupt entrenched elites in power. Oligarchy fears an uprising of REAL democratic participation. VIVA Revolution!
You' re full of BS !! Lucem2. Most dictators were put in place by the CIA. How come you don't critique Alvaro Uribe in Colombia; he is doing the same thing. He's a rightwinger, that makes it OK ?? Now that Obama is President the USA respects democracy. Bush,or McCain would have supported Michelletti. It was Bush who supported Cardona a dictator and turned Chavez into his enemy. We're tired of coups, the rightwingers are desparate because they cannot win elections here or in Latin America.
You mean British Intelligence Agencies and those tied to them like the CIA. The CIA is a British Intelligence Agency planted into America not only to be used for British political gains world wide, while taking the fault for whatever Britain does, but to also keep America in check to Britain's demands for her own security.
Why does Iran blame America and not Britain, when Britain was also responsible and engages in everything the CIA does?
yes man thats a half truth, let me tell you the facts.. the congress in here it´s not the same than yours is full of assholes who bought the chair and the half on it are not elected they fill the votes after the votacion close, the court is chosen by te congres, i were in long beach by the time of the election and i never felt that shame after see the news in your country the general attourney its chossen by the congress and so and so and so
Roberto Micheletti is a member of the same party as Zelaya.
And if the entire country is so fucked up not to have its own congress elected democratically, then what makes you think Zelaya was elected democratically?
yes man and that´s not even the point micheletti it´s a mummy in the congress guess what he have been in the congres 32 years!!!! he can´t talk correctly he have not education and beat women i front of cameras(look for cholusatsur in here)..the general attorney it´s the brother of her best friend, the president of the legislative power is his compadre..now the ministers of state are the congressmen how doesn´t get elected on his movement and they can´t because the same constitution say it
Sounds about as long as Biden has been in the Senate.
Micheletti is the President of the Legislative Power.
I don't think you are actually Honduran and I know this because you are making little sense right now, plus I've spoken to some Hondurans and they regarded what you have said to be bullshit.
i born in valle the angeles and i live in tegucigalpa for about n28 years that is my age .tell me if the hondurans you been talking live there because i have travel to the U.S and they most of then do not know anything the base things with rumors, i em in a privileg side i live in a barrio but a 100 mts from my home are the ones how promoted this coup so i have a better view than others i am a mid class from a military family the half and doctors in the ohter half they are like republicans
by mi side i hate injustice and i am not in the streets because i have a baby and friends in both sides and if you say that i am jnot hondurans because i said something with reason you are calling idiots to the others, right now i can´t defend them it is obvious something wrong here, so is a coup but it does not make it wrong it´s like killing in self defence.. the wrong thing is can not go out to drink something because today is still forbiden after 10 pm so tell me it´s fair this
I cannot understand you and from what I've been told only rich Hondurans can afford access to the internet and all rich Hondurans support the Interim government. Either that is a lie or you secretly favor the Interim government.
Hey I am not rich and i have internet access!! And far more i do not support the interin government neither Zelaya They are both fakes and violators of our constitution. Dont be fooled by any of the two sides.
Well isn't that a whole contrary to what Zelaya supporters have said. They have said that only rich Hondurans have internet access and everyone is too freaking poor.
Hell no! Im saying i believe you are sufficiently rational to see through both positions fallacies. And whatever dude I will respect your opinion as I respect any one else´s opinion.

The Obama guy for Latin American said this 3 years ago. "The cautionary tales of Fujimori, Aristide, and most
recently Chávez in Venezuela, show how presidentialism can be perverted
into quasi-authoritarianism or even dictatorship."
For those who know about what is going on in Latin America they will support the ousting of Zelaya. Chavez and Zelaya were pushing slowly Honduras toward a radical populist dictatorship. Term limits is sacrosant in L.A. because of LA past history with Dictators.
What the fuck??? Liars pieces of shit! You don't even know the criminal, corrupt, drug lord that Manuel Zelaya is! Get your facts straight! If you love him so much, take him to rule your country and see if you like it when he starts spending all the country's money in his own personal plans! We were all starving here, dying from the swine flu, the earthquakes, the rain and the floods, kidnapping, organized crime, etc, and all he did was STEAL and never give a shit. He deserves JAIL TIME!
thankfully the UN & OAS condemn this coup against a democratically elected president, the right-wingers of latin america are becoming desperate in there attempt to hold on to power, power they have enjoyed for decades, power they had achieved through coups such as this and held onto by oppressing our people- but since the late 90's latin america has achieved democracy and these rich, mostly white right wing nuts who are used to having the power & money are in fact becoming desperate-
The Army was acting out of permission and orders from both the Legislative Branch and Judicial Branch as well out of support from the Electoral Body and the Attorney General. The entire government of Honduras virtually supported the removal of Zelaya.
And he refused to step down even after he was impeached. So the Military had to step in. What? Can we not do the same should say Palin becomes President and refuses to step down after Congress impeaches and removes her?
of a black sheet with the inscription HONDURAS GORILLAS S.A for anyone surprise he works for a newspaper who support the coup call el heraldo..his owner got mad because the ex-president did not bought the amount of drugs he wanted because he have a legal drugfactory...
where you were lier, you could not seen the people because the ones who hate the coup were busy being beated by militaries and police assholes..by my side, is one of my friend lost (he is a leftty but who cares he have rights)find what happen to allan mcdonald he got kidnap with his 17 month old baby girl and release 5 hour later because he is a caricaturist awarded by the UN and have friends in europe but why you arrest a year and a half baby..and the sin of allan is made a cartoon

These people are commi liers. I WAS THERE ZALAYA"S PEOPLE HATE HIN AND WANT HIM OUT!! It is onl,y a military coup when the millitary acts on its own.The Congress Voted him out and sent him out of the country in exhile. THIS WAS NOT A COUP! HE VIOLATED THE COUNTRY"S CONSTITUTION! You take your ignorant ass to Honduras and see what is going on for yourself instead of believing everything you hear from CNN the Communist News Network!
A coup is not something that is voted on by both the congress and supreme court of a country. So to label something that goes through the democratic process of a country as illegal is either complete ignorance or a lie. Check the facts that are coming out of the country of Honduras not coming from the communist dictators who say "let democracy prevail." I have never heard of something so asinine!
I am not a citizen of Honduras but to break the constitution of a country to fix the the breaking of a constitution sounds like a bad comedy---I feel the junta is a sold government for money to satisfy the few rich elite is not acceptable in my humble opinion--P:S. Lucem here claims 70% of the population did not want Zelaya--loo .. did u just make up this numbers in your head or do u have a statistics by some one other than the government...ASSUMPTION IS THE MOTHER OF ALL FUCK UPS!!! u got it??
You don't represent the majority, you are in fact a minority. Tell me, how is it that you have internet access while the masses are being left in the dark?
Yes you might be right. I wrote without knowing that time. It was a coup, yes. But Zelaya also violated the constitution and so the actual government. I started studying the constitution a few days ago and i have found quite astonishing things. You know just the fact that i know english makes me a minority. And yes my way of thinking right now is my survival. So at this moment I dont side with any of the parts because they are both criminals and violators of our constitution. I just hope it ends
70%? that's a lie Lucem and you are a liar! Zelaya has support of majority!
I will give you that "Hondurans here on youtube will tell us". But that's just because Hondurans on youtube - Hondurans with internet are representing the tiny, rich elite. Majority of Hondurans are poor people without access to internet - and they support Zelaya.
Fuck this coup and fuck those fascist perpetrators of this coup!
What? Can we not do the same should say Palin becomes President and refuses to step down after Congress impeaches and removes her?
if the autorities in here were the same than yours he never even there as president but the same powers who take him out ,put him there, in the midway he smiled to the clown chavez. i am in the army as reserve and i will kill for my country don´t even doubt it but this is a coupman. and they are desapearing people cut the power and that kind of stuff, the new goberment it´s caled national dialogue and conciliation but when they have a mic in front they start to fight to the other side so fig.o
this dude talks too much BS, he should thanks god for living in a place where there are not ass holes trying impose you the socialism of this venezuelan clown of Chavez
What a mess, arroz con mango puro. The coup is illegal, but the attempt by Zelaya to gain expanded limits is also controversial. Los dos lados han usado intimidacion, abuso del poder, etc. So goes democracy, abused by both sides. La unica que pierde aqui es la Democracia sin importar cual lado gane. And behind them stand the political radical Far Right & Far Left in Latin America. Honduras is la ultima batalla entre radicales de la Derecha y la Izquierda en Latino America.
All the hell will break loose when the interim president of Honduras reveals before the UN the plan Chavez had to impose its irresponsible populist regime in that country. There are rumors of $3Millions in cash and evry body knows about the 'referendum' material came from Venezuela.
The Honduras government have proofs that will unmask what really happened there.
The are photos of huge crowds of Hondurans on the streets supporting the ousting of Zelaya.
Hey all you pro-fascists! Zelaya wasn't doing anything illegal! As Jeremy Scahill reports:
President Zelaya intended to perform a non-binding public consultation, about the conformation of an elected National Constituent Assembly. To do this, he invoked article 5 of the Honduran Civil Participation Act of 2006. According to this act, all public functionaries can perform non-binding public consultations to inquire what the population thinks about policy measures.
The Coup soldiers look like they are outfitted wit US Army surplus equipment. The political arm of the US govt is supporting the diposed leader but what is the left hand doing?
This is really about protecting the elite and keeping power out of the hands of the people. The referendum represents the "tip of the iceberg". Giving people hope is the last think the elite want. That is why the coup took place IMHO. Banana producers don't want a democracy, they NEED a stable DICTATORSHIP.
Poor Minuteman9112012, your brain must be as small as your dick...
YO SOY NATIVO AMERICANO AND YOU BRAINLESS, PYCHOHOMOSCARYASS... YOU think that only because you carry a gun around you are in charge...Think again and if you have a brain cell alive still just go to the next census report and see who is minority here...ANYBODY CAN FIRE A GUN JUST DON'T BE IN THE CROSSFIRE WHEN SH!7 EXPLODE...YO SOY NATIVO AMERICANO Y VOS?
Since when exiling an elected president has become democratic???? THIS PPL, -Roberto Micheletti and military "thug"- has taken the powe by their hands... ironically... This action is turing honduras into EXTREMELY ISOLATED!!!.... just what they didn't want to become to.... STUPID POLITICIANS
Just when it looked like central america was at peace, this shit happens. God willing all this boils over. Fuck all those greedy right wing fags!. "Asta la ultima victoria"
yes, of course, that honduran political elite just want to preserve and keep power, privilliges, wealth in their hands. that's why they are affraid of public referendum and have made that coup-d'etat.
Patria o muerte? no, your wealth and power or death. that's more correct. laws and constitution for all people on the contrary to laws for political, financial, and military elite.
Although I agree that the president should have been removed democratically, I think that the "outrage" of him being kicked out this way is disproportionate. He's a president that was violating his constitution and playing games. He was firing people that didn't want to violate the law with him. Remember, all these people are to be loyal to the constitution and not the president at the time.
notice at the beginning the new president says i promise to be loyal to the REPUBLIC(a globalist company), to its constitutions and its laws... he did not say the people of honduras

Zelaya violated the Honduran Constitution all to hell and gone. There was no way in hell Zelaya would ever submit to impeachment proceedings, i.e., regular, Constitutional due process, and the other branches of government (including the military) could see that. The branches then had two options: 1) go along with Zelaya's referendum, and eventually subjugate themselves to this guy; or 2) play by the same unconventional rules Zelaya was using, and throw him out - which they did.
I think Zeyala should respect the constitution. If the constitution can be changed legally, then Zeyala should act accordingly. A military Coup is not the answer. Chavez shouldn't threaten war either.
MopacMurtaza, it was wrong for the USA to invade Iraq under the guise of liberating it. If Venezuela did the same to Honduras it would be wrong. We must all respect the Honduran people enough to allow them to attempt to resolve this crisis without foreign military intervention.

Zelaya was determined to usurp the constitution and the verdict of the Supreme Court, to acquire a Presidency like Hugo Chavez and his ilk. This is not a coup d'état, since the military has no intention of forming a government, but acted in consort with the Supreme Court so that democracy in Honduras is not held ransom to the personal ambition of the President. It is bizarre that Honduras, a stalwart champion of constitutional democracy, is condemned as the bad guy.
The oligarchy stepped forward to block the possiblity of democracy in Honduras by using the military in a violent coup. They removed the elected president before the people could vote on the referendum.
Same with Chavez in Venezuela but they failed because the people rose up to support democracy there and rejected the age old model of coups and dictatorships in Latin America.
It seems nobody in Honduras likes Zelaya, and neither do I like him.

And now he can defend the "Chapulin Coloado" NO ... Manuel Zelaya is paying what he did to Jesus Christ Man refused entry into the country and Micheleti for having spoken bad of Jesus Christ Man. so is this.

Also, what many Hondurians that support this coup does not know is the hardly any country what so ever recognize Michelliti's government legitimate. NOT ONE!, of course the USA still condemns the coup, but still have not stop giving aid the Hondurian Paramility group.
csanchez2009 2 years ago
If the government is not recognized its reason is politics, and can be understood with a small dose of common sense. If a government agrees with the overthrowing of another Chief of State, what message is he sending out? He's sending out a message that Governments can be pretty weak... And that, he doesn't want. Plus, the leftist latin american countries condemn this because of obvious reasons, and if the right wing ones didn't, they'd be "interfering with democracy".

Unfortunately you are correct. Okay..but are you aware of the fact that those voting stubs were shipped in from Venezuela and were already filled out with peoples information?? now that is unconstitutional..and what necessity does Venezuela have for sending this in and giving Honduras all it has given. That's the problem with some of us is that We can't always go with video and some of the mainstream media when the majority are bought off from wealthy owners, corporate and bunch of neo-cons moron. You have to read a little about latin america's past. In my opinion, this was definitely a coup
csanchez2009 2 years ago
I know about Latin America's past. But I also know that what happened wasn't a coup because Congress ordered the military to take the actions that they did because what Zelaya was trying to do was unconstitutional and congress was acting how the constitution called for them to do. It was a diplomatic act by Congress, the supreme court, and the military.
TWitt89 2 years ago
Sorry i have to disagree with. There is no where in this wacky Honduras Constitution thats says you can kidnap a president at gun point and expel him from his country without a fair trial. This was definitely a coup that is supported by mostly three of the largest exporting bananas companies.

What gets me, so many naive Americans support the coup because they believe corporate media lies re: Zelaya was 'dictator' seeking to overturn the Constitution so he could rule for life. They don't even suspect they're being scammed or why.

For those who know about what is going on in Latin America they will support the ousting of Zelaya. Chavez and Zelaya were pushing slowly Honduras toward a radical populist dictatorship. Term limits is sacrosant in L.A. because of LA past history with Dictators.

This is really about protecting the elite and keeping power out of the hands of the people. The referendum represents the "tip of the iceberg". Giving people hope is the last think the elite want. That is why the coup took place IMHO. Banana producers don't want a democracy, they NEED a stable DICTATORSHIP.

Fox News is just a bunch of half-fascist lassiez faire freaks.

yes, of course, that honduran political elite just want to preserve and keep power, privilliges, wealth in their hands. that's why they are affraid of public referendum and have made that coup-d'etat.

Leftists are trying to take over gradually through constitutional "reforms" but they will be repelled by the elites and military.
Hope to see more of this in the future.

Ok. I'm am not exactly an expert on the law in Honduras but hasn't the military, or parts of it, committed treason and thus they should be executed?

Zelaya violated the Honduran Constitution all to hell and gone. There was no way in hell Zelaya would ever submit to impeachment proceedings, i.e., regular, Constitutional due process, and the other branches of government (including the military) could see that. The branches then had two options: 1) go along with Zelaya's referendum, and eventually subjugate themselves to this guy; or 2) play by the same unconventional rules Zelaya was using, and throw him out - which they did.
Is not a coup !!
Lucem2 2 years ago
So now a public referendum is "unconventional" and equal to a coup?

I think Zeyala should respect the constitution. If the constitution can be changed legally, then Zeyala should act accordingly. A military Coup is not the answer. Chavez shouldn't threaten war either.

MopacMurtaza 2 years ago 4
i second that!
INFANTRIA666 2 years ago 2
MopacMurtaza, it was wrong for the USA to invade Iraq under the guise of liberating it. If Venezuela did the same to Honduras it would be wrong. We must all respect the Honduran people enough to allow them to attempt to resolve this crisis without foreign military intervention.
MumblingMythos 2 years ago 7
I hope Chavez stays put and we can solve this through the UN, so the Obama Administration can put its money where its collective mouth is.
Enough with countries invading other countries to "liberate" them.

It is bizarre that Honduras, a stalwart champion of constitutional democracy, is condemned as the bad guy.
charlessmyth 2 years ago
The oligarchy stepped forward to block the possiblity of democracy in Honduras by using the military in a violent coup. They removed the elected president before the people could vote on the referendum.
Same with Chavez in Venezuela but they failed because the people rose up to support democracy there and rejected the age old model of coups and dictatorships in Latin America.
